Read This First!

This manual includes instructions for new installations and for upgrades of JobBOSS, add-ons, and third-party integrations provided by JobBOSS. Do not proceed with any portion of the installation or upgrade until you have read this entire introductory section.

Technical Competencies

This manual is written for system administrators with the following expertise:

Technical Area Competency

Firewall Managing the Windows firewall

IIS Installing and configuring IIS

Microsoft SQL Server Configuring authentication and services Networking Troubleshooting basic networking issues Windows Server Adding and removing features of the OS

If you do not feel comfortable doing all the above, or if you prefer assistance to ensure a swift and successful installation, contact your Customer Success Manager to arrange remote installation assistance (800-777-4334).

Pre-Installation Checklist and Prerequisites

It is your responsibility to:

• Verify that you meet the current System Requirements (available from the Customer Portal) for JobBOSS and any optional components you have purchased. The JobBOSS installer checks for a supported OS and supported Microsoft SQL Server. If your system is noncompliant, the installation will fail. The installer also attempts to install any necessary prerequisites (such as .NET framework versions) that are not already installed.

• Check with your third-party product providers (uniPoint, custom solutions, etc.) to verify that their product(s) are compatible with the JobBOSS release you plan to install.

• Configure your network. JobBOSS Support does not provide instructions for configuring your network connections, firewall, certificates, etc.

• Install or upgrade components in the order and manner specified in this manual, unless a JobBOSS representative instructs you to do otherwise.

• Verify that you have access to the Customer Portal, where you will access the all installation (.exe) files.

(5)

© 2021 ECI JobBOSS, LLC 5 Effective Date: August 17, 2021 GLOBAL PREREQUISITES:

• All System Requirements must be met.

No applications can be running on the computer where you are installing or upgrading, including any virus-scanning software or Windows updates.

You must be logged in to the computer as a user with local administrator rights.

When perform installation/upgrade tasks, do not access the computer via Remote Desktop Connection. Instead, work directly on the computer console.

• If upgrading:

o All users must be logged out of JobBOSS and any JobBOSS add-ons or integrations.

o JobBOSS recommends that you manually stop any JobBOSS-related services that are running (for example, the Data Collection Web Service).

If you experience issues after installing or upgrading, check for a resolution in Appendix A: Troubleshooting before calling JobBOSS Customer Support.

First-Time Installation

If you are installing JobBOSS components for the first time, JobBOSS recommends that you use JobBOSS Professional Services, in cooperation with your company’s qualified IT professional, to ensure a successful deployment. If you choose to complete the installation yourself, JobBOSS assumes no liability for failure to meet system requirements or to deploy in an appropriate manner.

Before you install JobBOSS, it is your responsibility to:

• Understand how your SQL server security setup affects the JobBOSS connection to SQL server (see Appendix B: Microsoft SQL Server Authentication).

After installing SQL server, you will also need to:

o Enable the browser service

o Enable the TCP IP protocol and named pipes

o Configure the Windows firewall to allow SQL server to communicate on your network (if applicable)

If you do not feel comfortable doing all the above, or if you prefer assistance, contact your Customer Success Manager to arrange SQL server installation/configuration assistance (800-777-4334).

• Determine your processes for database backup and maintenance. JobBOSS recommends that you regularly back up all JobBOSS databases. JobBOSS assumes no liability for customer database backups.

Upgrade Installation

If you are planning a server migration, contact your Customer Success Manager before proceeding. Server migration is not covered in this manual.

Before you upgrade to JobBOSS 2020 SP2 on a server or client, it is your responsibility to:

• Verify that JobBOSS 2018 or later is already installed there.

• Review the JobBOSS 2020 SP2 ReadMe file (available from the Customer Portal) and the ReadMe files for all releases of JobBOSS since your currently installed version. For your convenience, ReadMe files for past releases are available on the JobBOSS 2020 SP2 Upgrade Download page in the Customer Portal.

Each ReadMe describes the functionality changes in a release. When you review these JobBOSS changes, consider how they will impact your standard processing procedures or your upgrade process.

• Back up all JobBOSS databases, and validate the success of your backups. JobBOSS assumes no liability for customer database backups.

Step 1: Install or Upgrade the JobBOSS Server

To run JobBOSS, you must install or update:

• The server component on a single computer that has access to your Microsoft SQL Server (covered in this section)

• The client component on every workstation where your users will log in and use the application (covered in the following section)

The server component and the computer you install it on are both called the “JobBOSS Server”.

Typically, you use a single computer to host the JobBOSS Server and any other server-based components that are required for the optional add-ons and third-party integrations.

PREREQUISITES:

• On the JobBOSS Server, the firewall must be turned off or configured to allow certain exceptions (see Document 20.379.414 in the Knowledge Base).

• If installing on a Terminal Server, no other users can be logged in to the server.

1. From the Customer Portal – Product Downloads page, download the JobBOSS executable (for example,

JobBOSS2021.exe) to your JobBOSS Server. If upgrading, it can be downloaded to any location on this server except to your current JobBOSS Server directory or any of its sub-directories.

2. Run the executable.

3. Follow the prompts in the installation wizard. (Only noteworthy screens are listed below.) Screen/Window Notes

Database Server screen

When selecting how to connect to the SQL server, consider your shop’s security needs and how the SQL server was originally set up. Typically, SQL Authentication (mixed mode) is used. See Appendix B: Microsoft SQL Server Authentication.

(8)

© 2021 ECI JobBOSS, LLC 8 Effective Date: August 17, 2021

Step 2: Install or Upgrade All JobBOSS Clients

After installing or upgrading the JobBOSS Server, you must update each JobBOSS client (workstation).

PREREQUISITES:

• On each client computer, you must have network access to the JobBOSS Server folder (located on the JobBOSS Server computer).

• If upgrading JobBOSS clients, JobBOSS Server must already be upgraded. (For example, to upgrade JobBOSS clients to JobBOSS 2021, you must first upgrade the JobBOSS Server to JobBOSS 2021.)

• A default printer must be specified. If you install the JobBOSS client on a computer that does not have a default printer, some aspects of JobBOSS reporting will not work.

• If your computer uses DEP (Data Execution Prevention), set DEP to allow the JobBOSS Client to run unchecked. (See Document 22.548.189 in the Knowledge Base for more information.)

JobBOSS offers three installation/upgrade methods to choose from:

• Manual Installation/Upgrade

• Automatic Upgrade

• Scripted Installation/Upgrade

Regardless of the method you choose, users cannot log in to JobBOSS until the client is installed or upgraded to the same version as the server.

Manual Installation/Upgrade

In releases prior to 2018, your shop needed to manually install or upgrade each JobBOSS Client separately. The manual client installation/upgrade method is still available (see steps below).

If you are upgrading the JobBOSS Client on the JobBOSS Server computer and you automatically launched the client installer from the server installer, skip to Step 3.

1. From the computer where you want to install the JobBOSS Client, navigate to the location of the client installation executable (by default, the JobBOSS Server folder).

If installing on your JobBOSS Server computer, navigate to this folder locally, not via your network.

2. Run JobBOSS Client Setup.exe.

3. Follow the prompts in the installation wizard. At the final screen, you will click Finish.

4. Log in to JobBOSS to complete and verify the client installation/upgrade on this computer.

Automatic Upgrade

If you are upgrading from JobBOSS 2018 or later, you can enable all clients to automatically trigger an upgrade.

If you enable this feature, each time a user attempts to launch JobBOSS, the client checks whether its version matches the JobBOSS Server version. The client only triggers an upgrade when it detects that the JobBOSS Server has been upgraded.

The automatic upgrade feature affects all JobBOSS Clients in your deployment. It can be enabled in the JobBOSS Toolbox utility, which is installed with the JobBOSS Server (see steps below).

You can access additional documentation about automatic upgrades from the Help menu in JobBOSS Toolbox.

If you have already enabled Automatic Upgrade during a previous installation, users may launch the JobBOSS client to begin their upgrade at this time.

(9)

© 2021 ECI JobBOSS, LLC 9 Effective Date: August 17, 2021 1. On the JobBOSS Server computer, open JobBOSS Toolbox. (Exact steps vary by your OS. For example, navigate to Start

> All Programs > JobBOSS Server > JobBOSS Toolbox.)

2. Log in to JobBOSS Toolbox as a JobBOSS user with administrator rights.

3. In the navigation pane, select JobBOSS > Auto-Upgrade Settings.

4. Select the Enable Automatic Client Upgrade check box.

5. Optionally, select the Prompt to launch upgrade check box. This option indicates whether you want the upgrade to proceed unprompted, or allow the user to decide whether to proceed.

6. Click the Update button to apply the changes.

The next time JobBOSS is opened on each client computer (after the JobBOSS Server has been upgraded):

• The JobBOSS Client installer attempts to upgrade itself to the same version.

• Depending on your selection in step 5, the user may be able to postpone the upgrade, but will be unable to use JobBOSS in the meantime.

• If the current Windows user does not have local administrator credentials, the installer prompts for those credentials. Either a local admin user can enter their credentials, or the upgrade can be postponed.

Scripted Installation/Upgrade

Starting with release 2018, you can use a deployment tool or script to automatically “push” the JobBOSS Client to one or more client computers. This command-based installation option works for both new installations and upgrades.

Command Format

“\\path\JobBOSS Client Setup.exe” /jbservername=server [/silent] [/verysilent]

[/DIR=“X:\dirname”] [/?]

where:

path Is the local or network path to the executable.

server Is the name of the computer where JobBOSS Server is installed.

/silent Runs the installation in silent mode. No user prompts are provided, but a progress bar is displayed.

/verysilent Runs the installation in very silent mode. No user prompts, progress bars, or any other visual cues are displayed.

/DIR Specifies a non-default installation location, where X:\dirname is the full path.

/? Displays additional command line options.

Example

In the following example, the client installer is run from the default location on the JobBOSS Server computer JBSERV2, is installed in the default location on the client [C:\Program Files (x86)\JobBOSS], and presents no visual cues to the user logged in to the client computer.

“\\JBSERV2\JobBOSS Server\JobBOSS Client Setup.exe” /verysilent jbservername= JBSERV2

Step 3: Install or Upgrade JobBOSS Data Collection (If Used)

If you own JobBOSS Data Collection, you need to:

• Install the Data Collection Web Service (typically on your JobBOSS Server computer)

• Install one or more of the following (whichever you use): Workstation Driver or DC Mobile. See diagram below.

Data Collection cannot be used until a JobBOSS administrator creates employee master files and assigns access rights to those employees (in the System Administration module of JobBOSS). Instructions are available in the JobBOSS help.

When upgrading JobBOSS, check the System Requirements to determine if you need to upgrade any of the data collection components to a compatible release.

Data Collection Web Service

JobBOSS Data Collection requires the Data Collection Web Service (JB DC Web Service). The installation package for this service is included—but not installed—with the JobBOSS Server installation.

Typically, you install the Data Collection Web Service on the JobBOSS Server computer. If not, see Appendix C: Installing the Data Collection Web Service NOT on the JobBOSS Server.

If you have multiple JobBOSS databases (for example, multiple companies running against the same JobBOSS Server), you must install a separate instance of the service for each database that you want Data Collection to connect to:

• Installing multiple instances on the same computer (for example, to address load balancing) — The installation wizard allows you to create multiple instances at once.

• Installing each instance on a different computer — Run the installation wizard on each computer.

JobBOSS limits all vendor and customer names to 30 characters. Before initializing the integration, JobBOSS recommends that you shorten any longer vendor and customer names in QuickBooks. Any vendor or customer names that come from QuickBooks will be truncated to 30 characters in JobBOSS.

1. From the computer where the JobBOSS Integration for QuickBooks is installed, open Intuit QuickBooks in single-user mode and log on (using the “Admin” logon ID) to the database that JobBOSS will integrate with.

If QuickBooks is not open and you are not logged on to the QuickBooks database you want JobBOSS to integrate with prior to performing the following steps, the integration will not function.

Appendix A: Troubleshooting and FAQ

When I try to run JobBOSS reports (after initial installation), a connection error message is displayed.

JobBOSS reports can be affected by a variety of security settings. See Document 17.724.677 in the Knowledge Base.

I don’t know how to start using a product, or I don’t know how a specific module or function works.

JobBOSS and optional add-ons, integrations, and utilities: Launch JobBOSS on any client (workstation) where it is installed. Click Help in the upper navigation bar. JobBOSS launches the help suite, where you can search for additional information about how to set up and use JobBOSS and many of its optional supporting components.

You can also select a module or form (in JobBOSS Explorer) and press the F1 key to open the help directly to an overview of that module or form.

Data Collection: Data Collection cannot be used until a JobBOSS administrator creates employee master files and assigns access rights to those employees (in the System Administration module of JobBOSS). Instructions are available in the JobBOSS help.

After Data Collection has been deployed and configured, users can access how-to instructions within DC Mobile by selecting Help from the main menu.

CAD Bill of Material Import: In CAD Bill of Material Import, users can access how-to instructions by pressing the F1 key or selecting Help > BOM Import Help from the main menu.

Appendix B: Microsoft SQL Server Authentication

Your JobBOSS connection to SQL server is affected by the authentication mode that is configured for your SQL server.

JobBOSS does not provide support for SQL server installation. To install SQL server, work with your qualified IT professional or contact your Customer Success Manager to arrange remote installation assistance (800-777-4334).

Remember to configure your firewall to allow traffic to/from SQL server.

During SQL server installation, you select which authentication mode it uses:

• SQL authentication (mixed mode) — This is the preferred method when deploying JobBOSS.

• Windows authentication — If this mode is currently in use, you must follow the steps below to either switch the authentication mode or give the JobBOSS Windows service access to your JobBOSS SQL databases.

To switch the authentication mode after SQL installation:

1. Open SQL Server Management Studio.

2. In the Object Explorer pane, right-click your server and select Properties.

3. On the Security page, under Server authentication, select the new server authentication mode.

4. Click OK.

5. You are prompted to restart SQL server. Click OK to close the message window.

6. In Object Explorer pane, right-click your server and select Restart.

7. Enable the SQL server superuser (sa) account.

a. In the Object Explorer pane, expand Security > Logins.

b. Right-click sa and select Properties.

c. On the General page, you might have to create and confirm a password for the login.

d. On the Status page, in the Login section, select Enabled.

e. Click OK.

8. If the SQL Server Agent service is running, restart it from the Windows Services panel.

To give the JobBOSS Windows service access to the JobBOSS SQL databases:

1. In the Windows Services panel, double-click JobBOSSServices.

2. In the Log On tab, select This Account.

Appendix C: Installing the Data Collection Web Service NOT on the JobBOSS Server

You may choose to install the Data Collection Web Service on a computer other than the JobBOSS Server or in addition to the JobBOSS Server (if multiple instances are required).

After installing the Data Collection Web Service on a computer that is not running JobBOSS Server, you must ensure that the IIS user has network rights to access the JobBOSS Server folder. JobBOSS recommends creating another network user with these

parameters:

• Username IUSR_DC

• Access rights to the JobBOSS Server folder on the JobBOSS Server computer

• Password never expires (if possible)

To set up web services to use IUSR_DC (or whatever user you create, as recommended above):

1. On the computer where the JB DC Web Service installed, go to: Control Panel >Administrative Tools and double-click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. (Do not double-click Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager. This is the previous version of IIS).

The Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager window opens.

2. Open the Data Collection Web Service (JBDCWebService):

o On Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 client OS, expand Local computer name (top level in tree) > Web Sites > JBDCWebService.

o On Windows Server OS, expand Local computer name (top level in tree) > Sites > JBDCWebService.

3. Click the Data Collection Virtual Folder, and select Properties. The Virtual Folder will be called “DataCollection”, by default, for the first single-database installation of the Data Collection Web Service. The Virtual Folder will be named per the JobBOSS database it links to (PRODUCTION, TRAINING, etc.), by default, for multiple database installations of the web service.

4. Double-click Authentication under the IIS section in the middle panel.

5. Right-click Anonymous Authentication and click Edit. The Edit Anonymous Authentication Credentials window appears. Click Set.

6. The Set Credentials window opens. In the Username field, type the IUSR_DC domain user that you created.

7. Enter and confirm the password that you selected for user IUSR_DC.

8. Click OK to close the Set Credentials window.

9. Click OK to close the Edit Anonymous Authentication Credentials window.

10. Close the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager window. You have completed the modifications needed to successfully run the JB DC Web Service on a computer other than the JobBOSS Server.

If your JB DC Web Service workstation is accessible directly from the Internet, JobBOSS does not recommend giving IUSR_DC permissions to any folder other than your JobBOSS Server folder.
