-WELCOME-

THE CENTRAL BUCKS SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER

The Central Bucks Senior Activity Center (CBSAC) is one of four, full-service senior centers operated by Bucks County Association for Retired and Senior Citizens, a not-for-profit corporation on Aging. This project is funded, in part, under a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and The County of Bucks. The BCARSC is an equal-opportunity employer.

All programs and services provided at the four Senior Centers through the Area Agency on Aging are offered without regard to race, religion, political affiliation, income level, or personal back- ground. The Central Bucks Senior Activity Center serves all sen- ior citizens, aged 55 and over in the Central Bucks area including Doylestown, New Britain, Chalfont, Buckingham, Plumsteadville and Warrington, as well as neighboring communities. Geographic locations are not criteria for membership, and the Center draws members from as far as Perkasie, Warminster, Lansdale, New Hope and Solebury.

CBSAC is an activity Center, helping members to lead richer, fuller lives by providing a variety of programs to both entertain and stimulate. It has an elected executive board. There are monthly meetings at which members may express their support and concerns. This Center has been providing services to the Central bucks area for over 30 years.

Meals on Wheels Support Needed

We continue to look for volunteers for a Meals on Wheels program. We need Pantry Aides and Drivers to deliver the meals. Both set of volunteers would need to donate at least two hours of their time. If interested, please call the Center.

In case of inclement weather, the CBSAC follows the closing stats as that of CB School District. Please watch channel 28 for updates.

We will also post the information on our Facebook page which is accessible from our center’s website cbseniors.net.

ASSISTANT MANAGER’S MESSAGE

Welcome back! Hope everyone had a Merry Christ- mas and a Happy New Year.

Now it is time to get back to real life, hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful lunch fundraisers that we are having. If you have any suggestions for Lunch fundraisers please let me know.

Pretty soon nice weather is around the corner, don’t forget to read Darlene’s kitchen corner for our lunch fundraisers for January, February and March.

I would like to thank all my dedicated volunteers who work in the kitchen, I appreciate you all. I would also like to thank all of our members for taking the effort for signing up for lunch on the co pilot.

Hope each and every one of you have a wonderful New Year.

Darlene Fell, Assistant Manager

MANAGER’S MESSAGE

I don’t want to let 2019 slip away without extending my heartfelt thanks for all the support that I have received from Darlene Fell, Members of the Board and all the hard working volunteers of our Center.

Rentals, memberships and attendance to the Center’s activities are on the rise. A New fire protection system was recently installed for the safety of our seniors.

Our Cashbash and Holly Fair fundraisers were a huge success. Ap- proximately over 250 people attended the Holly Fair. Again THANKSTHANKSTHANKS THANKS to everyone who participated by volunteering as well as purchasing tickets, I appreciate each and every one of you.

The Center is looking to establish an advisory board of independent business owners and companies which would help our Center to grow, not only in membership but also to support our center finan- cially.

Once again CBSAC will be offering Free AARP Tax preparation for seniors. AARP Tax-Aide will be here Mondays & Fridays beginning 2/3/20 and ending 4/13/20.

Here’s hoping that 2020 brings you all much health and prosperity.

Best wishes,

Sheila Rodney, Manager

Veterans Corner

Special thanks to the CBSAC for hosting the third annual Vet- erans Day Observance at the Center. PA State representative Wendy Ullman sponsored a luncheon for our area Veterans. A volunteer from the Bucks County Tour of Honor introduced a video from the Spring Vietnam Veterans trip to Washington, DC and its Memorials. The program began with a flag ceremo- ny by members of Doylestown’s U. S. Army Recruiting office.

As the flag was folded, the significance of the 13 folds of the flag was read. Following the video and luncheon, Representa- tive Ullman spoke and answered questions relevant to the Vet- erans. Among the Veterans present were those who had served during WW II, Korea, Vietnam and the War on Terror- ism. The video from the Oct, 2019 Tour of Honor for WW II and Korea Veterans was not yet available but will be shown at a later date.

The upcoming October 5, 2020 Tour of Honor trip will be a combined trip for WW II , Korea and Vietnam Veterans. The WW II and Korea Veterans will be accompanied by “Guardians.”

Still looking for my Buns ??

Local favorite Central Bucks Senior Activity Center (CBSAC) fresh-baked cinnamon buns are loved by the locals. No, they are not purchased from a bakery and resold!

Our buns are baked fresh at the CBSAC by our vol- unteer members. Each month, for three (3) days, our hearty bakers arrive and bake their buns from scratch. Coated in flour, sugar and glaze they have a great time and return each month.

Why not stop in and see how your buns are baked and thank them for their efforts. Fresh faces are welcome (as are not so fresh faces) to join in the fun, frivolity (and some tasting, too). The dates that they bake are listed in the calendar.

Trips and Travel Trip Policy Reminder Sign up early. Don’t miss out!

When you sign up for a day trip, you must pay for it in full at that time. An overnight trip requires a deposit,. For additional infor- mation, check the Front Desk. When taking a trip, please park your car in the rows on the side of the building farthest from the Center to allow room closer to the Center for the members at- tending during the day. There might be times when the center offers a trip for which you must make a deposit on the trip imme- diately or lose the opportunity. In this case the Center must make a deposit on the trip and offer it to a member of the Center before the next Bridge comes out.

Payment and Cancellation Policies

We strongly recommend that you purchase cancellation insur- ance when it is available. Anyone who must cancel after the Cen- ter has remitted the money to the travel agent CANNOT get a re- fund unless the person purchased cancellation insurance, as the Center cannot get refunds.

The Center requests that you pay for all trips by check, for your protection, and this will assist our bookkeeping. When paying for more than one person other than your spouse, please note the other name (s) on the check. If you are taking trip insurance, please pay for it with your deposit check as well, to facilitate our records. Thank you.

From the Desk of State Representative Wendy Ullman

Fall 2019 Legislative Update from State Representative Wendy Ullman Statute of Limitations

I voted in favor of House Bill 962, which was signed into law, to eliminate the criminal statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse. The law also extends the statute of limitations for civil suits for childhood sexual abuse until the victim reaches the age of 55. This law protects our youngest and most vulnerable residents and allows more victims and survi- vors to seek justice.

Raising the Minimum Wage to $9.50 by 2022

The state Senate voted to increase the minimum wage to $9.50. The House must pass the bill before it can be signed into law by Gov. Tom Wolf. This modest increase is the first step toward achieving a living wage for all Pennsylvanians.

Smoking Age Raised to 21

On November 27

th

, Gov. Wolf signed into law Senate Bill 473, which sets a minimum age of 21 for the purchase of tobacco and vaping products. The bill will go into effect July 1, 2020. Members of the armed services or reserve units are ex- empted. Most smokers start the habit before the age of 21, and the aim of this bill is to reduce the number of smokers going forward.

Sunday Hunting Bill

With conflicting wishes expressed among constituents of the 143

rd

Legislative District, I gave a great deal of thought to a bill allowing limited Sunday hunting before voting to approve it.

Many residents in my district share a common love of the outdoors but had different perspectives on Sunday hunting.

Senate Bill 147 provided a reasonable compromise: it strengthens trespassing laws, and it gives hunters three Sundays each year to enjoy an activity that is very meaningful to them and has always been a part of our culture in Pennsylvania.

Local Fire Fighting Training Program

Local fire companies approached me about the need for a fire training program in the communities in Upper Bucks be- cause of the difficulty they are having in recruiting new volunteer firefighters.

In response, I had a meeting in November with community partners who could make that happen.

I’m happy to announce that we are in the beginning stages of organizing a Fire Fighting Training and Emergency Medical

Technician Training program designed specifically for high school students in partnership with Upper Bucks Technical

School, Bucks County Community College, Ottsville Volunteer Fire Company and Delaware Valley Volunteer Fire Compa-
