(1)Madison Heights . September 2021. $FWLYH$GXOW&HQWHU For active adults in Madison Heights and the surrounding area age 50 & up!. $1RWH)URPWKH&RRUGLQDWRU. Fall is here along with back to school and cooler weather. Time is sure flying by this year! Staff has enjoyed planning programs to open back up each month, and I am excited to tell you that the time has finally come! BINGO IS BACK! Our state licensed BINGO will start back up on Thursday, September 9 at 1:00 pm SHARP! We are so grateful that our wonderful volunteers are willing to take the challenge of Bingo back on! It’s A LOT of work! Thank you all for making it possible to bring everyone’s favorite game back to the AAC! See page 3 for all the info and an important notice on a new code of conduct waiver everyone will be required to sign prior to play. Make sure you come early the first day so you have time to read and sign the waiver. We will be hosting three events in September. Our first event will be a presentation on the possible move of the Active Adult Center to the City Hall campus. The architect and City Staff will be at the Center on Tuesday, September 14 at 1:00 pm to present the current plan. Everyone is welcome to attend! Please come out and learn all about the plan and ask any questions you may have. See page 2 for all the details! The second event is a Fall Fest on Friday, September 24 at 12:30 pm with food, friends and tons of fun! We will have cider and donuts, a pumpkin decorating contest and Andy and Joy will be back to lasso up some tunes for your listening and dancing entertainment! Lastly, we will also be hosting a Mini Health Fair on Thursday, September 30 at 10:00 am. Walgreens will be here to give flu shots, the Madison Heights Fire Department will be doing blood pressure checks, and Dr. Shanbom will be doing eye exams and eye pressure checks- all for free! See page 4 for details on the last two events. You can also preview our new Fantastic Fun FREE Friday events coming up in October on page 4! Due to the pandemic we were unable to have an advisory board election in 2020 or in June this year when we normally do. We have rescheduled this year’s election for October 7 & 8. If you are a Madison Heights resident age 50 and up and are interested in running or nominating another resident, stop by September 17-30 to write in your nomination. And don’t forget to come back and vote October 7 or 8! See page 4 for all the details. In addition to working on reopening programs, staff has been working extremely hard to provide essential services to our community. We are offering curbside services for essential items such as Focus Hope food boxes, answering phone calls, responding to emails, Facebook messages and voicemail messages regarding available resources, creating a modified monthly newsletter, sharing virtual classes and activities, and providing bus transportation to doctor appointments, grocery stores, and other errands. Don’t forget to pass the word that the AAC is offering FREE transportation for residents through 2023, thanks to a grant through SMART. Our newsletter is packed with lots of great information. For the latest updates on the AAC, like us on Facebook - Madison Heights Active Adult Center. We are happy to see so many of you back at the Center! If you haven’t been by, stop by and see us! If you have any questions, or if we can connect you with assistance, please don’t hesitate to call the Center at 248-545-3464.
