RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY

Dear Parish Family of St. Augustine,

MANY MANY THANKS: May God bless all of you who worked so hard to provide our Parish Picnic last Saturday: Denise Breunig who is Chairperson for the Picnic; all Picnic Committee Chairs and Volunteers, “B/G”, Parish Office; all who helped and worked at the Picnic in any way; all who donated items, and all who came to enjoy the afternoon and evening. MAY GOD BLESS AND REWARD YOU ALL AS ONLY HE CAN!!

27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: God created everything to reflect His Goodness and Beauty; He created the first man and woman; He is the Giver of LIFE: human life and the life of grace. On this “Pro-Life Sunday “ we pray for respect for the Gift of Human Life, especially in our times, the protection of the unborn and the gift of Christian marriage.

PRO-LIFE CHAIN: This Sunday from 2-3 pm in Fairview

Heights. May our public witness to the Gift of Life help all those we encounter that afternoon to come to a greater love and respect for the lives of the unborn.

PRIEST CONVOCATION: the annual Priest Meeting is this week in St. Louis from Monday until Thursday noon. …I will still offer Mass here on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning at 8 a.m. Please pray for our Bishop and we priests of our Diocese during our Meeting .

May the Lord bless us all!

Fr. Bill

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

We have moved into the month of October and we are happy that it is getting cooler. Our students enjoy playing outside on these cooler days. We have a busy week this week. Our students in grades 6 - 8 will be attending the Belleville West play on Wednesday.

Our students are excited about going on field trips again. We have an early dismissal on Wednesday due to our faculty meeting. Our Fall pictures will be on Thursday. Students enjoy being out of uniform for that day. We do not have school on Friday because our teachers will be attending the Diocescan Teacher Convocation. This is a time the teachers from all over the Diocese come together to celebrate Mass and learn from each other.

VOCATION CORNER: Today’s readings underscore the sanctity of marriage. This vocation is a call to live in personal holiness and is a commitment to getting your spouse to heaven. “God inscribed in the humanity of man and woman the vocation of love and communion. Love is therefore the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being.” -St. John Paul II

Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time – 03 October 2021 Genesis 2:18-24. Psalm 128:1-2, 3, 4-5, 6. Hebrews 2:9-11.

Mark 10:2-16.

Making, Testing, and Deciding. There are at least three take- aways from the readings today. In the making of man and woman in this second creation story, God builds them up from the same stuff. In the first creation story, read during the Easter Vigil, they are made into God’s own image and likeness (Genesis 1:27). Made as equals. In the testing of Jesus, the Pharisees try to trip him up with legal loopholes. Jesus does not play that game. In deciding who belongs to the Kingdom of God, it is Jesus and not his handlers who choose. Children are important. So is everyone else.

x How will I foster the equality of both women and men?

x How will I avoid loopholes and, instead, tell the truth?

x Just like Jesus, how will I treat everyone the same as equal members of God’s Kingdom?

The 2021 St. Augustine Parish Picnic

THE 2021 ST. AUGUSTINE PARISH PICNIC was a one-day event, that took hundreds of hours of planning, phone calls, emails, buying, scheduling, building, donating, clean-up, and many other details. All of this was accomplished by a very dedicated team of volunteers and workers, led by Denise Breunig, the Building & Grounds crew, and the Chairpersons of all of the committees. A huge “thank you”

goes out to all who donated basket items, complete baskets, or monetary donations, and most importantly, their time. Without the hard work and dedication of everyone who helped in any way, the picnic would not be possible. St. Augustine’s deeply appreciates all who helped to make the 2021 picnic a success.
