Spring 2015

Gator Clubs are after‐school enrichment programs Sponsored by the Gallardo PTA to enhance the school 

curriculum.  Gator Clubs have been organized to provide additional learning experiences for the students at 

Sandra J. Gallardo Elementary School.  The clubs we offer are dependent upon teacher and parent willingness 

to organize and teach a club.  

 

In Person Registration:  Wednesday, January 21 at 8 am in the Multi and 2 pm in front of the Multi.   

First come, first served. We will do our best to keep this process quick and simple by marking date/time we 

receive your registration.  After January 21, please bring your completed forms to the PTA office.  Do not 

turn these in to teachers.  Deadline is January 26 or until the club is full.   

 

Please make checks payable to the Gallardo PTA.  If paying with cash, please bring EXACT change. You may pay 

by credit card at the IN PERSON registration or make arrangements to do so.  Scholarships are available.  For 

information regarding scholarships, please contact Mrs. Graham.  It’s okay to turn in your paperwork first.

We can usually tell you if you are confirmed in the club upon registration so plan for your child to attend 

unless you are told the club is full.  Please provide e‐mail contact information written clearly to help the 

confirmation/communication process.  If you have any questions or concerns about getting to the in‐person 

registration, please contact the clubs coordinator at the e‐mail below.

Primary Reading Club

Is it hard for your child to take AR quizzes during the school day? Each week students will have the opportunity to read and take as many quizzes possible during our hour long club. Second graders will be working on their AR test taking skills, while Kindergartners and first graders will be working with Lexia, their reading support program. Hope to see you there!!!

Intermediate Accelerated Reader Club

Do you need to get some extra reading done? Do you need to take an AR test, but can’t find the time? This club allows you to get caught up on your reading if you’re behind or just for fun. So come on down to the A.R.

Club and get started on a good book!

Lexia Club

Here's your chance to strengthen your reading skills! We will use the Lexia Core 5 program on

chromebooks. Prizes will be given as new levels are reached. This is a great opportunity to get your

Lexia Core 5 assignments completed!

Hindi Culture Club

Join our Hindi Club as we learn about Hindi/Indian Culture. Have fun through communication, reading and writing the Hindi alphabet. You will also learn poems and dances in Hindi. All supplies provided and included in the fee. Parent volunteers welcomed.

Gators will work with high school students to learn or review math. Monthly students will have the opportunity to take a Mathematical Olympiad test, an international competition and there will be opportunities to compete in mathematical competitions.

Knitting Club

Students will learn all the skills needed to complete basic projects (hats, scarves, fingerless gloves, etc.).. This includes but is not limited to: casting on, knit, purl, bind off, and seaming. They will also learn how to make their own knitting needles. For those who are ready, intermediate projects may be introduced. Cost of supplies included.

Gator Track and Field Club

Come on out and learn some techniques for the different track and field events. The district Track and Field Meet is in early May so let’s get prepared! You don’t have to participate in the track meet, and you can do the track meet even if you don’t do the club. But, we hope to see you out there training and learning the events with us! Track Meet t-shirts for Gallardo participants will be available for purchase in April.

UkuGators Ukulele Club

Join the UkuGators and learn to play the ukulele and jam with players.  Our focus will be on basic chords and 

strumming some great songs, plus techniques to improve playing for more experienced players.  Most of all 

we plan to have fun.  You will need a ukulele to join the class.  There are a limited number of ukuleles 

available to borrow.  Adult players are welcome to bring their own ukulele and learn with us.  We recommend 

the Kala Dolphin or the Kala MaKala as good beginning ukuleles which are available at Nicholson’s Music in 

Folsom or the Strum Shop in Roseville for about $45.  A case or bag, and a tuner are also recommended.  

Please indicate your level of playing (beginning or intermediate) on the registration form.

Experienced Kindergarteners may also participate

Students must have a ukulele to participate in this club. There are a limited number available for loan. They will be loaned on a first come, first served basis. If you request a loan and we have an instrument for you, an instrument borrowing agreement must be completed before your club application is approved.
