• Complete the attached application package and submit to the Center for University Learning, Mailbox# 3310 by August 11, 2006

• Review the program overview; submit a complete application with your signature. You must also submit two references. Reference forms must be included with your package by two different people who can attest to your qualifications. References should be from persons who have observed your performance in work or in service environments. Please ask your references to complete and sign the form and then return it directly to you in a sealed envelop. It is your responsibility to submit a complete application package before the due date. Any incomplete package submitted will not be considered for the ELC program.

Eligibility

• You must be a KSU employee in good standing

• You must be past the probationary period Important Dates

• Application materials are due by August 11, 2006

• Notifications of acceptance into the ELC program will be done via email and letter by August 25th

• Classes begin September 8th and will run through December 8th (NOTE: All classes will be held on Fridays, 9:00 am – 12:00 Noon, KSU Center, Room 182; there will be no class held on November 24th in recognition of the Thanksgiving Holiday)

• Level One Reception held on December 8th. (NOTE: at this time ELC participants are acknowledged and honored for their completion of the first level. All ELC facilitators, direct reports and other KSU leaders will be invited.)

Program Overview

The Ethical Leadership Certificate is a multi-tiered leadership development program endorsed by the Institute for Leadership, Ethics & Character and managed by The Center for University Learning. This non-credit, certificate program consists of 36, three-hour competency based modules divided into three levels addressing several areas/issues in leadership development, networking with other KSU constituents and ethical character building skills.

Spiritual Meaning & Purpose

In addition to providing instructional modules to the participants, the class is also asked to engage in an applied service leadership group project. The project is designed to allow participants an opportunity to practice competencies developed throughout the program, assess their own leadership performance, work as a team in implementing a project as well as receive feedback from facilitators and other KSU leaders. Throughout the different levels participants are required to maintain an online portfolio and personal journal. After completion of the third level, the facilitator will review each online portfolio to assess and give productive feedback. The ELC participants will also have the option of sharing their ELC program experiences with their direct reports, potential participants of the program, and KSU leaders at the graduation ceremony. The benefits of the program include:

- Gain the skills and knowledge transferable to a variety of environments (work, civic, volunteer, family)

- Complete the program with a dynamic online portfolio of the participants’ accomplishments - Receive a certificate that is endorsed by Dr. Dan Papp, President, KSU, Dr. Deborah Roebuck,

Executive Director, the Institute for Leadership, Ethics & Character and Linda Lyons, Director, The Center for University Learning.

- Develop supportive networks with colleagues that could help in advancing your career

- After completion of the three levels participants receive, along with their certificate, their Ethical Leadership lapel pins

Participant Commitment

The Ethical Leadership Certificate at KSU is more than a series of classes. It is a one-of-a-kind leadership program and as such involves a serious commitment by participants selected for the program. If selected for the program you will be required to:

• Attend all regularly scheduled sessions (or make arrangements to make-up the learning you missed.)

• Work with your fellow classmates on a leadership project which may require some meetings outside the normal scheduled sessions.

• Maintain an online portfolio of your work and accomplishments.

• Present your portfolio at the completion of the certificate to the Program Facilitator.

• Participate in several social events with your classmates and others.

• Attend several sessions with students in the LINK (Leaders IN Kennesaw) Program.
