Professional Online Instruction
HR eLearning is a professional online instruction program offered through the Human Resources Department at Essex County College.
Through partnership with ed2go, employees are offered a variety of high-quality non- credit online courses and tutorials for career education and development. The pro- gram features a wide selection of instructional resources aimed at addressing the pro- fessional development needs of the College’s diverse employment population. It is in- tended for regular employees (Administrative, Faculty, Professional, Fraternal Order of Police, Security, and Support Staff) and current Adjunct Faculty of the College.
Selected courses must be related to the employee’s present job or career path at the College. Teaching staff are limited to courses or tutorials in field of instruc- tion, technology, or assessment.
Through the program’s well-crafted lessons, expert online instruction, and interaction with fellow students, you will gain valuable knowledge at your convenience.
You have the flexibility of studying at your own pace with enough structure and sup- port to complete each course or tutorial. The program can be accessed 24/7 from any- where with an internet connection.
Pre-approval is required so you will need to follow the steps outlined below for partici- pation.
Options to Choose From
HR eLearning offers the following options which are delivered through separate sites:
Courses:
www.ed2go.com/essex-proOur courses are six weeks long and offered monthly. Two (2) lessons are released each week (Wednesdays and Fridays) -- for a total of twelve lessons. Courses close after eight (8) weeks to allow extra time to complete requirements.
Each course includes comprehensive lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a discussion area. Dedicated instructors facilitate courses; pacing learners, answering questions, giving feedback, and facilitating discussion.
Tutorials:
www.ed2go.com/essex2-proOur self-paced tutorials are an excellent opportunity to enhance skills or earn continu- ing education credits (CEUs). You may start at anytime and most tutorials are com- pleted in just a few hours. This option is ideal for supported independent study.
Getting Started
To gain the most from our online training, we recommend that you begin by using an Individual Development Plan (IDP) or other planning tool to focus on your training needs or career interests.
An IDP is an individually tailored plan that lists objec- tives and activities for an employee’s career develop- ment. By applying a focused approach to your training and development needs, you can more readily enhance job skills and identify or chart a de- sired career path.
Your department benefits also since IDPs aid in clarifying
and planning departmental goals, and assist in budgeting for the de- partment’s annual training needs.
While the ideal time for preparing an IDP is during the weeks following your perfor- mance appraisal, an IDP can be effective even when prepared at other times during the year.
Once you have completed your development plan, selected and received approval for the courses or tutorials you would like to take, you are ready to begin.
Registration
Courses. To register you will need to complete an HR eLearning Enrollment Form available on both the course and tutorial sites and submit to the Human Resources De- partment along with your approved Individual Development Plan (IDP) Form which is also available on these sites. No payment or reimbursement is necessary.
Once your paperwork is processed, we will send you a login PassCode along with reg- istration information via e-mail.
Tutorials. If you are enrolling in a tutorial, follow the steps below:
1. At the HR eLearning ‘Self-Paced Tutorials’ site, select tutorials for which you have been pre-approved and ‘Add to Cart’.
2. ‘Continue to Checkout’.
3. Click ‘I have read and agree to the User Agreement’.
4. Your status will be ‘Verified by Essex County College’. No payment or reimburse- ment is necessary.
5. Download and complete an ‘HR eLearning Enrollment Form’ from the site and sub- mit to the Human Resources Department . You will gain access through ‘My Class- room’ once verification is complete.
Enrollment Limit
College policy limits per employee enrollment to two (2) courses or tutorials per fiscal year. This is another good reason to assess and plan for your annual training needs.
If a Department or Area Head requests additional training for performance improve- ment or individual development needs, this request would be accommodated.
Late Registration
The ‘HR eLearning—Instructor-Led Courses’ site is capable of accepting enrollments up to one (1) day after the posted start date for each course. Beyond that date you will not be able to enroll in the course.

Passing Grade
The final exam passing grade for any HR eLearning course is 70% or better. If you do not achieve this score on the first attempt, you may re-take the exam as long as the course is still open. Once the course is closed, your grade on record is final.
If you were able to re-take the final exam and succeeded in achieving a passing grade, you must contact the Human Resources Department to override the first score or you will not be able to print a certificate of completion.
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of a course (70% or better), you will be able to print a cer- tificate of completion. If you do not achieve a passing score, you will not be able to do so. Be sure to provide your supervisor with a copy of the certificate to show that you are making progress towards achieving your goals.
You will also be able to print a Certificate upon successful completion of a tutorial. Cri- teria are determined by the respective vendor of a given tutorial.
Withdrawals
Withdrawals from HR eLearning courses are considered on a case by case basis. If you have an emergency or other extenuating circumstance that prevents you from staying on schedule or completing a course, you may contact the Human Resources Department to discuss your options.
Once you have registered for a tutorial, you may not withdraw.
