Criminal justice careers cover a vast array of fields in the detection and interpretation of evidence left behind at the scene of a crime.

Unlike what you may have heard from shows on television or mystery and suspense novels, there is no single CSI (crime scene investigator) position.

Instead, CSI is an entire department of officials, officers, forensic

scientists, and technicians that work together in different areas to come to the same conclusion: whodunnit and how.

If you are interested in taking on one of the many crime scene investigator jobs out there, you should first decide in which field you’d most like to participate (and for which you may have a high aptitude) and then figure out how to pursue that choice.

So many paralegal jobs are available in the world today.

But there are some things to keep in mind.

The more educated, qualified, and trained you are, the more likely you will be hired.

Especially in today's competitive economic climate, employers want to make sure they are hiring people who are perfect for the job.

In order to make yourself perfect for the jobs, you need to make sure you have all the education and experience you possibly can.

Requirements for Paralegal Careers

While it isn't exactly a requirement, a lot of employers today are looking to hire people who have either a degree in paralegal studies or have taken post secondary education classes in applicable fields to fill their paralegal jobs.

This means that you need to make sure you have the training to impress the people in power.

You can earn an associate's degree in paralegal studies from community college or online quite easily. It's what I did to earn my paralegal certificate and it helped get me a great paralegal job!

With this degree and the completion of a professional training program or two, you shouldn't have the slightest problem earning a paralegal salary every year.

Other skills that are necessary to a paralegal job description are:

 Research ability

 Interview skills

 Good writing and communication

 Work well under time constraints

 Computer literate

 Great Knowledge of legal terminologies and principles

 Proofreading skills with regards to legal documents

A lot of information these days is stored on computers and the Internet, so it is doubly important that you are able to efficiently work on one.

Traditional & Online Paralegal Schools

You can get a degree in paralegal studies from a vast variety of schools all over the country.

While you can go to a university, college, or community college to get this degree by attending classes all weeklong and going into massive debt, this isn't your only option. And, frankly, it may not be the best one--especially if you live on a tight budget and/or have a family.

When I decided to become a paralegal, I was in my mid-40s. I just didn't have the kind of lifestyle (family, house, dependence on income) that would accommodate me going away to college for four years.

So I decided to earn my degree online. And it was one of the best decisions of my life.

So, what is forensic science anyway?

Forensic science is a term that covers an enormous number of criminal justice employees (from number crunchers, to scientists, to doctors, to great thinkers) that all work together to solve a crime.

Forensic science covers all of these departments and more:

Working together, people in these fields look at, study, compare, and eventually interpret pieces of evidence from a crime scene to find out what happened, where it happened, who it happened to, how it happened, and, if they’ve done their work well enough, whodunit.

So, let’s take a look at some forensic science for kids activities that’ll better help you and your children to understand what it’s all about.

Forensic Science Experiments for Kids

Here are two great forensic science for kids experiments that will help develop the skills necessary to one day become a great forensic scientist!

Forensic Science Experiments for Kids #1 The Family Room Crime Scene

For this activity, the first thing you want to do is block off the doorways to your family room. No one gets in except for you. Because this is a crime scene!

Equipment Needed:

 Plenty of plastic baggies

 A pair of gloves

 Tweezers

 Pen

 Labels

 Magnifying glass

Your job is to go over this room inch by inch to discover just what went on in here. The clues that you gather will help you to create a story of who did what, when and where.

Pick up anything you may see that will help to tell this story, including:

 Hair fibers

 Half-eaten potato chips

 Discarded trash

 Fingerprints

 Or anything else that may help you develop the plot

Collect all of your evidence in plastic baggies, carefully label them, and set them aside for further investigation in your crime lab (aka, kitchen).

What you find out from the crime scene entirely depends on how closely you look at the details. So be alert!

(Note: The Family Room Crime Scene could just as easily be called The Kitchen Crime Scene or The Bathroom Crime Scene. You can play this game anywhere!)
