Adjusting the configuration

This document will help you to configure a windream client PC (windream version 3.x) after the installation of service pack 2 for Microsoft Windows XP. To avoid operating trouble and to guarantee the proper operation of windream, the following adjustments have to be done on the windream client PC:

• Install the driver-patch

• Change a registry-key for the indexing service

• Adjust the configuration of the Windows XP Firewall

1. Install the driver-patch

If the windream version used is older than 3.6.0.13 (5) , a new driver-pathc has to be installed. Else it could come to system failures. The patch can be downloaded from

http://www.windream.com/download/windream36/WMClient 3.6.0.13 Patches.zip

2. Change a registry-key for the indexing service

For the indexing service the following key has to be changed in the registry. Under

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\C ontrol\Lsa]

the value for everyoneincludesanonymous has to be set to 1: everyoneincludesanonymous=dword:00000001

Additional settings in windream SOLO (standalone

version)

Problem:

Access denied when trying to start the vfs-service or the windream configuration 'filter' or the windream management console (WMC). The eventlog shows (when the installation was done with Mainuser = 'Administrator')

Reason:

xp sp2 has new dcom authorizations. In addition to 'Start' there is a new 'Activation' authorization.

The following settings have to be changed

(Taskbar)Start - Execute - Dcomcnfg - Component Services

- Computer - My Computer - DCOM-config

- windream DMS-service (right mouseclick - properties) - Security

- Launch and Activation Permissions

a) 'customize' must be activated. (not 'Use Default') Click button to open the configuration dialog.

b) On tabpage 'Launch Permission' set the Right 'Local Activation' separately for:

- System

- windream mainuser

Important: 'Local Launch' and 'Remote Launch' must not be activated (empty check-mark).

When using the dms-service locally the 'remote activation' is not necessary, but it can be activated.

The attached screenshot shows the configuration, when 'Administrator' is the windream Mainuser.

There is only the group 'windream-Benutzer' selected.

But also for the other two (Administrator, System) this right has to be activated, too.

c) The same configuration for the DCOM start authorization has to be done for the windream Thumbnail service, if you want to use the service.
