Installation Guide

Prior to installation, please ensure that the computer the scanner is being installed on meets the minimum system requirements listed below:
• A Pentium 4 or equivalent processor or higher • 512 MB RAM
• A USB 2.0 port
• A minimum of 60 MB free hard drive space • CD-ROM drive
• Windows 2000, Windows XP , Windows 2003, or Windows Vista • Internet Explorer version 6 or 7 installed
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE INTERNET EXPLORER 6 OR 7 OR GREATER INSTALLED TO USE THE DRVERS LICENSE SCANNER WITH KEEPNTRACK.
Setting up the scanner
When unpacking, verify that you have received the scanner and scanner base,
Installation CD containing the software installer and this manual, and a USB cable. If any components are missing, contact COMPanion by calling 1-800-347-6439 or 1-800-347-4942.
Assembly
The Driver’s License Camera Scanner unit comes in two parts: the camera box, and the base that holds the camera box. To assemble the unit, place the base on a flat surface. Insert the camera box into the base, making sure that the glass panel faces the rounded edge of the base (Image 1). Please note that the angle of the camera box is not adjustable.
Prior to connecting the scanner to your computer you must install the software and driver from the CD included with your scanner. Place the CD in your CD drive. From within Windows open My Computer and then open your CD drive. Double click on the file named DL Scanner Setup.exe to launch the installer. You should first be greeted with a KeepnTrack splash screen. Click Next (Image 1).

Click Next to continue from the welcome screen (Image 2).
Next, select a destination directory on your computer where you wish to install the Drivers License Scanner files. If you wish to install to a path other than the default shown click Browse… and select another location. COMPanion Corporation recommends installing to the default directory. Once you have selected the installation directory, click Next to continue. (Image 4).

In the next step, you will need to select the components you wish to install. The Drivers License Installer package is broken down into two main components:

Select the components you wish to install by placing a check mark in the box provided and then click Next to continue (Image 5).
NOTE: THE DRIVER COMPONENT IS SEPARATED INTO SUB-PACKAGES FOR THE TWO SCANNER MODELS WE CURRENTLY SUPPORT, THE SCANSHELL 800 AND SNAPSHELL IDR. HIGHLIGHTING THE DRIVERS OPTION IN THE SELECT COMPONENTS WINDOW WILL OFFER MORE DETAIL. CLICKING THE DETAILS BUTTON WILL OPEN A SEPARATE WINDOW AND ALLOW YOU TO SELECT ONLY THE DRIVERS FOR THE MODEL OF SCANNER YOU HAVE (IMAGES 6 AND 7).
Once you are satisfied with your selections, click Next to begin the installation (Image 8).

Once the installation has finished click Close to exit the Installer and proceed with setup of your hardware (Image 9).
You must Restart your computer first (Image 10)!

Hardware Set-up and Driver Installation
Once you have successfully completed the installation process, you are ready to connect your hardware and configure it for use. Begin by connecting the small “D” shaped end of the provided USB cable to the Snap Shell IDR and the other end to an available USB port on your computer.
NOTE: DO NOT CONNECT THE SCANNER TO A USB KEYBOARD OR OTHER HUB. After attaching your scanner, you will be greeted with the Found New Hardware Wizard. When asked whether Windows can connect to Windows Update to search for your software, select No, not this time and click Next (Image 11).

During the hardware installation Windows will prompt you that the software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing. Select to Continue Anyway (Image 13).

Using the Drivers License Scanner with KeepnTrack
Once both the Drivers License Scanner Browser Plug-In and Drivers have been installed, you may begin using the scanner with KeepnTrack.

After selecting Sign In or Sign Out, verify the scanner is ready as indicated by a green colored light on the front of the device. Place an ID in the scanner tray, squarely aligned to the left, and click the Scan ID button (Image 16).

NOTE: FOR SOME VERSIONS OF INTERNET EXPLORER (IE7), THE FIRST TIME AN ATTEMPT TO USE THE ADD-ON IS MADE, YOU WILL BE PROMPTED TO ENABLE IT. YOU MUST SELECT TO RUN THE ACTIVE X CONTROL FOR YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE SCANNER TO FUNCTION WITH YOUR BROWSER (IMAGES 17 AND 18). IF YOU WISH TO ENABLE OR DISABLE THIS CONTROL LATER, YOU MAY DO SO FROM THE MANAGE ADD-ONS CONTROL IN INTERNET EXPLORER.

The SnapShell IDR Camera device will take a picture of the License and collect the required data.
Shortly after the scan completes, KeepnTrack will process the data captured from the license and the appropriate fields in the browser should fill in with the Name and Birthdate automatically. When available, the picture on the license will also be captured and displayed.

Visitors or other people who do not require further review may then select an activity and print a badge if required (Image 21). The badge will display the visitor’s full name, picture ID, activity and the date and time of their visit.
Additional Settings for the Drivers License Scanner
KeepnTrack has several settings available which allow you to further customize how the ID scanner performs at your facility. Below is an overview of these control which can be modified independently for each operator as desired (Image 22).
The following Drivers License Scanner controls are located under the Operators permissions in the Operator Control Panel in Administration:
1) ID Scanner is Enabled: this control allows you to hide the ID scan button on the Kiosk.
2) Show Scanner State Menu in Kiosk: This control allows you to enable the state issuing ID control at a kiosk.
3) Default ID Scanner State Pulldown: This control allows you to select which state is set by default when scanning ID’s. Auto Detect is the default setting.
