The department received a directive from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to reduce the total credit hours necessary to complete our Associate of Science (AS) degrees to a maximum of 66 hours. In order to comply with this mandate, while maintaining the integrity of the field of study courses, it is necessary to select courses from the Core that will achieve the reduction in hours with the least negative impact on general education goals and student learning.

Section 2: Impact on Other Departments

Will this change impact other department(s)?

[g]

Yes

D No

If yes, describe how it will impact the department(s) and describe consultation/support with affected department(s):

There will be a reduction in student enrollment in the affected KII\JE course(s) because it will no longer be a required course for students seeking this degree. Dean lee has had consultations with Dean Halcomb regarding the necessary reduction in hours for AS degrees offered by the Computer Science, Engineering and Advanced Technology department. Dr. Knox has contacted Dr. Hilley to explain the proposed changes.
