Course Purpose

To develop competence in each of the four skills areas to the expected level around IELTS

3.0-3.5 (General Training version) on the successful completion of the course (corresponding

approximately to the A2 Waystage/Elementary User Level in the CFR scale or KET in the

Cambridge ESOL) :

Listening: candidates should be able to understand the phrases and the highest frequency

vocabulary, respond to dialogues and monologues on a range of everyday topics; to understand

the main point in short, clear spoken messages and announcements.

Speaking: to have the ability to communicate in simple routine tasks, requiring direct exchange

of information on familiar topics and activities (family/local surroundings/education/work); to

take part in short social exchanges. Can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in

simple terms familiar information.

Reading: to have an ability to read short, simple texts; to find specific information in simple

everyday material. Can understand short simple personal letters

Writing: show their ability to complete a short everyday writing task, simple notes, messages

and emails relating to areas of immediate need, appropriately, coherently and showing

reasonable control of structure, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation; to write short text in

response to questions.
