This brochure outlines the Institute’s most popular products and services, including:

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), the Institute develops qualifications under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). All

qualifications are designed by industry and education experts and are internationally recognised. The qualifications incorporate traditional distance learning education with up-to-date best practice thinking across a range of specialist fields. During their studies, students become student members of the Institute, gaining access to all the professional membership benefits on offer and joining a network of more than 16,000 insurance professionals in over 50 countries. On completion of their Institute qualification, students automatically become fully-qualified members and are able to use an ANZIIF post-nominal to mark their level of knowledge and skills. CERTIFIED INSURANCE PROFESSIONAL (CIP)

Institute membership provides a pathway to ensure your commitment to becoming an insurance professional is recognised as you work towards your career goals. The CIP designation represents industry professionals who abide by the ANZIIF Code of

Ethics, hold an insurance qualification, maintain their skills and knowledge and meet high standards of integrity.

All CIP members are required to complete and record a minimum of 25 CIP points of professional development (PD) activities each calendar year (January to December).

CIP members include Fellow CIP, Senior Associate CIP and Associate CIP members. These qualified members are also able to join an Institute Faculty. Membership Faculties provide a professional home for members to interact with peers and receive a customised and relevant membership experience.

Professionally qualified CIP members of the Institute (Associate CIP, Senior Associate CIP and Fellow CIP) are immediately eligible to join an industry Faculty. Institute Membership Faculties represent the specific industry qualifications and the career path of each member.

To be eligible to join the General Insurance Membership Faculty, you must have completed one of the following:

• ANZIIF Certificate IV in General Insurance or a recognised equivalent • ANZIIF Diploma of General

Insurance or a recognised equivalent

• ANZIIF Diploma of Personal Injury Management or a recognised equivalent • ANZIIF Diploma of Insurance

Broking or a recognised equivalent and have three years’ industry experience in a general insurance role.

The Institute’s workshops and events assist those working or looking

to work in personal injury management to develop their skills and expand

their practical knowledge to provide better service to clients. The Institute’s

workshops are also an invaluable refresher for those who are more

experienced and would like to sharpen their abilities.

OUTCOME Senior Associate CIP

The Institute’s Diploma of Personal Injury Management is designed for personal injury management claims and underwriting personnel and provides Senior Associate Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) membership of the Institute. The Diploma develops the technical knowledge and skills required to provide quality personal injury management for all schemes and in all jurisdictions in Australia, including the self-insurance environment.

COURSE CONTENT

To be awarded the Diploma, students must complete the following five modules. It is estimated that each module will require 50–70 hours of study time.

P e r s o n a l I n j u r y S t a t u t o r y F r a m e w o r k

Provides a snapshot of personal injury lines and the different workers’ compensation and compulsory third party (CTP) schemes operating in Australia. The module covers a history and overview of the political, social and economic landscapes, including that of work

health and safety (WH&S). It examines current issues in workers’ compensation and CTP as well as stakeholder relationships. Students will learn about the management of claims under the workers compensation and CTP schemes, identification and underwriting concepts and workplace health and safety (OH&S) in the personal injury lines market.

P e r s o n a l I n j u r y L a w a n d R e g u l a t i o n

Looks at the relevant acts that impact on workers compensation and CTP in each of the jurisdictions in Australia and the key legal elements and compensation principles relevant to claims. Students will look at the impact of the Privacy Act, the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and the workplace health and safety legislation in relation to personal injury claims. Students will also examine the role of the supervisor in a workers’ compensation and CTP environment.

P e r s o n a l I n j u r y C l a i m s M a n a g e m e n t

Looks at how and why organisations and insurers use claims data and reports to review and measure claims performance. Students will learn about injury notification, claims lodgement and the issues to consider in determining initial liability for personal injury claims. The module also covers personal injury claims investigations and management, including the provision of benefits to injured parties, ongoing liability reviews and the role of service providers.

P e r s o n a l I n j u r y C a s e M a n a g e m e n t

Examines the role of the case manager and the case management process, the medical environment, the injury management process and the return to work process. This module provides an overview of case management techniques and the medical environment, including terminology, basic human anatomy, common injury types and typical duration of treatment.

Students will also learn about dispute resolution processes and negotiation skills, injury management and treatment plans, rehabilitation and return to work plans and rights and the obligations of parties in personal injury management claims.

This online module describes the role of good customer service in building and maintaining the profitability of your organisation. The unit also describes how to identify, model and meet expected industry professional approaches to procedures, guidelines, policies, standards and ethical requirements.

Delivery and Assessment

DISTANCE LEARNING

Distance learning provides students with the flexibility to study where they choose during a study period that best suits them. There are six study periods offered throughout the year, allowing students to plan their study around peak work

periods. A complete set of learning materials is provided for each module.

These relate to students’ workplace knowledge and experience and include case studies, self-help questions, activities and additional resources where relevant.

ASSESSMENT

Each module is assessed through completion of an assignment comprising of a case study and an online examination containing multiple choice, short answer

and case study questions. To successfully complete an Institute module you are required to submit an assignment and sit an exam. To pass students must receive at least 50 per cent in both the assignment and the exam.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you’ve had more than five years’ experience in the insurance industry, you may be eligible to receive a Certificate IV or Diploma based on Skills Recognition. ANZIIF’s Skills Recognition, which is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), recognises the value of the skills and knowledge you have gained through employment, training, voluntary positions and general life experience. If you can provide evidence to show that your skills and knowledge match those in a qualification, you will save time and money through receipt of a qualification and membership upgrade. THE FELLOWSHIP BY MERIT PROGRAM

The Institute’s Fellowship by Merit program recognises people who have made long-lasting and significant contributions to leadership and professional excellence in the insurance industry. Prospective candidates prepare and submit a portfolio detailing their work history with examples of their thought leadership, industry involvement and contribution. Expressions of interest in the program may be made to the Institute for consideration. Applicants should, at a minimum, fulfil the following criteria: • a minimum of 15 years in the insurance/finance industry • current ANZIIF membership, membership having been continuous for the last five years

• recognised leader in their field – usually operating at CEO, Executive Management, Divisional, Regional or State Manager level

• applicants may be specialists in their field and/or owners, managers or consultants who have practised for ten years or more and have a high degree of skill and expertise • be a respected member of

the insurance and financial services community who leads by example with integrity and commitment to high standards of professionalism. All Institute modules have comprehensive printed learning resources that provide substantial technical detail and include accompanying self-help questions and answers. Many modules have online learning materials to use in addition to the printed materials, providing an opportunity for peer learning.

ONLINE SUPPORT AND REFERENCES

The Institute provides a range of online materials and services designed to support and assist you to learn effectively and apply your knowledge and skills in the workplace. This includes online discussion forums which you can use to submit inquiries regarding your studies and receive answers from an industry expert. The Institute’s website also features guidelines for writing assignments and preparing for exams and a glossary of financial services terminology.

TUTOR PROGRAM

The Institute’s Tutor Program provides access to experienced and qualified insurance professionals in a one-on-one tutoring situation to support you with your studies. Tutors are experts in their fields and are ready and able to provide assistance and guidance with studies.

STUDENT NEWSLETTERS

Institute student newsletters provide the latest information on your qualification module and assessment requirements, learning and study tips and upcoming workshops and conferences.
