GLOBALG.A.P. AT A GLANCE

G.A.P. stands for Good Agricultural Practice – and GLOBALG.A.P. is the worldwide standard that assures it.

We’re a not-for-profit organization with a crucial objective: safe, sustainable produc-tion of food, flowers and ornamentals worldwide. We set voluntary standards for the certification of agricultural products around the globe - and more and more producers, suppliers and buyers are harmonizing their certification standards to match.

The result? A growing movement towards a universal brand: a single standard that identifies safe production methods, responsible use of resources and the welfare of employees and animals.

That’s good news for producers, distributors, retailers and consumers. It means easier certification and wider markets for fruit and vegetable producers; added reliability for retailers - and valuable reassurance for customers.

THE GLOBALG.A.P. FRUIT & VEGETABLES CERTIFICATION STANDARD

As the world’s preeminent harmonized agricultural

standard, GLOBALG.A.P. is now recognized in over 100 countries. The GLOBALG.A.P. Fruit & Vegetables Standard covers all stages of production, from pre-harvest activities such as soil management and plant protection product application to post-harvest produce handling, packing and storing.

We actively work on harmonizing Good Agricultural Practice worldwide, by connecting farmers and brand owners around the globe, encouraging sustainability, and providing advice and assistance to help farmers

achieve certification. Our efforts ensure the production and marketing of safe food, lay the foundation for the protection of scarce resources, and provide reassurance for consumers.

The standard covers Soil Management, Substrates, Pre-Harvest Controls for Plant Protection Product Applica-tion, Organic Fertilizer ApplicaApplica-tion, Pre-Harvest Check, Harvesting, Final Produce Packing at Point of Harvest, Produce Handling covering Hygiene, Sanitary Facili-ties, Packing and Storage Areas, Quality Control, Pest Control, Post-Harvest Washing, Post-Harvest Treatment.

THE GLOBALG.A.P. FARM ASSURER

A GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer can support you as a producer in achieving certification.

Working with producers all over the world, farm assurers have first-hand knowledge about the GLOBALG.A.P. System and the latest developments, so their expert help makes the standard easier to understand and simplifies audit preparation. They can also link producers directly

to selected customers in the supply chain. And as they represent more than one producer, they can offer you valuable backing in your negotiations with certification bodies on inspection costs.

CERTIFIED PLANT PROPAGATION MATERIAL

THE GLOBALG.A.P. CHAIN OF CUSTODY STANDARD (CoC)

Plant propagation material is the basis for all healthy plants. It is an important aspect of your production process that requires extra care. Not only to ensure the quality and safety of your products but also the health and welfare of your workers and the safety of the environment. GLOBALG.A.P. highly recommends the certification of plant propagation material used in the production process.

Transparency throughout the supply chain guarantees the integrity of your product and reassures your customers. The GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody Standard (CoC) is an essential add-on for all supply chain partners handling GLOBALG.A.P. certified products. It ensures that any product sold as a GLOBALG.A.P certified product is sourced from GLOBALG.A.P. certified farms. The GLOBALG.A.P. Plant Propagation Material (PPM)

Standard sets clear criteria, ranging from traceability and fertilizer use to the management of site, soil, pest, waste and pollution. Designed as an add-on to the “Fruit & Vegetables” and the “Flowers & Ornamentals” Standards, the PPM Standard covers the entire produc-tion process from propagaproduc-tion to the final product to provide your consumers with safe and sustainably produced products.

The GLOBALG.A.P. CoC Standard identifies the status of your product throughout the entire process, from production site to retailer. It lays out strict requirements for handling certified products and the proper segrega-tion of certified and non-certified products through all the stages of the supply chain.

TOWARDS WORLDWIDE HARMONIZATION

HARMONIZATION AND INTEGRITY

We’re pledged to take the complexity out of certification. We want to cut out duplication and work towards the principle of ‘one auditor at the farm gate’.

That’s why we strive to harmonize the requirements of different schemes. Where possible we recognize the national standards that are equivalent and give them approved - or benchmarked - status.

As a result, the market can satisfy its demand for reassurance by checking for GLOBALG.A.P. Certification or its approved equivalent. Either one is sufficient - both for a buyer’s confidence and a producer’s validation.

Our GLOBALG.A.P. Integrity Program ensures that all the approved certification bodies apply the same rules. This guarantees a consistently high quality of controls and transparency. An updated list of all recognized standards and schemes is available on our website.

YOUR GGN SHOWS

YOU COMPLY WITH

THE STANDARD

Every certified GLOBALG.A.P. producer is registered in our database and identified by a unique 13-digit GLOBALG.A.P. Number (GGN). The GGN appears on every printed certificate. It’s also the online search key that opens up all relevant traceability informa-tion – certificainforma-tion body, scheme, product status and certificate validity.

As a producer, the GGN is your passport to the world’s markets. It enables retailers to confirm your certified status and identify you as a trusted supplier. And where it appears on packaging, it helps shoppers check your certification and assure them of the quality, safety and sustainability of your product. In short, it’s a great sales aid.
