EMPOLIS SMART CLOUD
In addition to the traditional model of on-premise software licenses, we also provide Software as a Service (SaaS) for the full range of Empolis solutions. In utilizing the Empolis Smart Cloud, customers avoid the initial investment of license fees and efforts involved in creating their own IT infrastructure. And for a monthly fee, Empolis also maintains and operates the application, which is made available via the internet.
All of the necessary application components ‒ the database, connection to third-party systems, sophisticated search processes, or specialized application logic ‒ are outsourced to the Empolis Smart Cloud and are run from Empolis’ data center.
Empolis conforms exclusively to German laws and regulations and, thus, complies to the strict provisions that apply to all (customer) data required by German law.

Not a problem, thanks to Empolis Smart Cloud’s high-availability and highly scalable shared nothing architecture. The application is scalabe to meet your needs; in other words, computing capacity can be adjusted according to current requirements. Instead of purchasing more computers, all you need is a click of a button to boot the service (users, data sources, data volume, data sets, etc.). This also means that the Empolis Smart Cloud fulfills all requirements for high-performance ”big data” processing. In addition, the Empolis Smart Cloud offers complete cost transparency at all times. The quality of our services is always transparent as well, as established in our service level agreement (SLA). The SLA defines parameters to evaluate service quality and describes agreed operational processes for maintaining or, as applicable, recovering service quality. The SLA ensures for
transparent and trusting cooperation, as well as a high level of service quality in regards to the agreed services.

Empolis has the highest standards when it comes to securing your data. This is why the Empolis Smart Cloud has integrated sophisticated, certified security and control mechanisms to offer you the greatest possible level of protection.
Physical security is essential when IT is involved. For this reason, the Empolis Smart Cloud is
exclusively operated in German computing centers classified as Tier 3 or Tier 4. Among many other aspects, this means that the building must be located away from flood or earthquake regions and must feature a “building within a building” design with two separate, self-contained Lampertz high-security rooms, certified under ECB-S. Building safety is provided by 24/7 security staff that must adhere to strict, monitored access rules.
All requirements are fully met to ensure that the system conforms with an exceptionally high level of reliability and availability. We only use brand name servers with redundant power supplies, hard drives and NICs. Among other things, we use virtualization servers with n+1 redundancy, and the application level is designed with a highly available, highly scalable shared nothing architecture. Within the Empolis Smart Cloud, all availability and performance data are recorded for every level (network, hardware, hypervisor, operating system, applications) and all critical functions are monitored with the help of a two-stage system.
Of course, this also includes an elaborate backup concept: daily incremental backup, weekly differential backup and a full backup every month, provide for ideal protection against data loss, with a retention period of 60 days.
