INTRODUCTION
The definition of poetry to me is a piece of writing that sometimes rhymes but doesn’t always have to. It’s
basically your own creation. Some people use poetry as a way to express themselves or to tell a story. I think
writing poetry can sometimes be difficult though if you have no ideas of what kind of poetry you want to write.

I want to dedicate this Poetry Book to my best friend, Taliah.
Music In The Air
Swaying back and forth like trees in the wind
Loud clashes as if it’s thundering
The banging of the sticks against the metal; Bang Bang
Rhythm danced in the air
The wind sang as they played relentlessly
So many different objects making musical sounds High above the ground like a bird in the sky
Sun shining down like a spotlight on the performers The sound spread like a wildfire
Their harnesses acting as swings
Ending with a fraction of the noise
Where I’m From
I am from summer days in the pool with friends I am from homemade pizza at grandma’s house I am from Saturday cartoons and Fruit Loops
I am from procrastination but perfection
I am from deciding what color of nail polish to use I am from a Catholic background
I am from Hispanic and Polish heritage I am from annoying my brother
I am from a region with four seasons
I am from watching my favorite shows on TV
I am from putting my headphones in and ignoring the world I am from a loving family
MY LIFE
Getting together with family for the holidays every year The smell of grandma’s homemade tortillas
Joining dance as a little girl Playing softball for 3 years
Going to dinner for family birthdays Cookouts for the Fourth of July
Spending the whole summer with my best friend The crackling of the bonfire
Cosmic bowling every Friday night Painting included in an art show Getting braces on my teeth
Fresh Flowers
Purple roses sway
A fresh sweet
scent fills the air
Blowing in the
wind
Springtime
The birds are
chirping
Dew forming on the
tree leaves
Squirrel climbing
the tree
Ouch
There once was a girl named Sue
She always knew what to do It was at night
She turned on the light
Before she tripped over her shoe
McDonalds
I am standing in the line at the counter of McDonalds
My order if coming up I sit down and eat
Drinking the remains of juice
I stumble as throwing my trash away While turning my head
I see a shadow
It was a child crying It was hungry
And I bought the child food Fries are sizzling
Burgers are cooked Lines are full
And business is running

GRANDFATHER
The grandfather liked to watch the broadcast
football.
On the TV channel every night.
In the morning he’s still asleep.
When I departed for work.

MOODS
Page 11: Metaphor Poem
Nervous
Is a tingle in your spine
That raises the hair on your back
And soothes it with relief
Happiness
Is when your truly satisfi ed
The feeling as if nothing could go wrong
Success
Is the act of being great
Ode to The Movies
Movies are great
And the buttery popcorn
Melts when taking the first bite.
The cotton candy smells so sweet it’s like you’re
in a field of flowers
I can watch movies all day.
Movies are the excitement of the unknown,
You hear the music as the curtains open,
Boom and the movie begins.
Movies are like a forever ending.
Best Friends
They remember everything anyone’s ever felt
And hold it in a cubbyhole somewhere for next
time
The ones you can only get mad at for a short
period of time because you have important
stuff to tell them
The kind of friends that understand you
And help you through everything
Best friends that you can have conversations
with about anything
Reflection
I think the purpose of writing all of these poems was to learn about the different types of poetry and how many types of poems there are. Some of the challenges writing the book were not knowing
how to write a certain poem, or figuring out where to start and to come up with ideas on writing a poem. I learned that poems have a
unique meaning.
