The City of Gävle

• Gävle is the administrative seat of the county of Gävleborg and has around 95.000 inhabitants. of which 70.000 live in the city itself.

• Gävle is Sweden’s 17th biggest city.

• Gävle’s archipelago has 446 islands and 280 km of coastline. • Cycle-friendly Gävle has more than 200 km of separate cycle trails

(compared to 400 km of roads!).

• You can fish for salmon and trout for free – in the middle of the city.

• Gävle has one of Sweden’s best ice hockey teams (twelve-times Swedish champions) Brynäs IF and a football team in the

Allsvenskan, Gefle IF.

• Furuviksparken in Gävle has Scandinavia’s first primate research station, the fourth in the world.

• The world’s biggest straw goat is found in Gävle (unveiled every year on “Shop Window Sunday”).
