enefits at CIGNA
®
When you consider an employment
opportunity at CIGNA, consider this:
you can automatically gain access to one of the
widest arrays of employee benefits and human
resources programs in the nation. Because of our
robust group of benefits and programs, CIGNA has
received national recognition as a great place to
work. As an employee, you will have an opportunity
to select benefits with a number of cost options.
CIGNA’s benefits are competitively priced to the
marketplace, with the company picking up 75
each quarter based on their account balance. The amount received is based on age and length of service. Vesting occurs after five years of service. Employees who leave employment before retirement may take their vested account balance with them as a lump sum payment.
Under the 401(k) Plan, employees can immediately save up to 25 percent of their salary pre-tax toward their future retirement as well as earn a company match after one year of service. CIGNA adds $.50 for every dollar contributed, up to six percent of salary. An additional match is also possible each year based on CIGNA’s business performance. Full vesting of the company match occurs after five years with CIGNA, with partial vesting occurring at a rate of 20 percent each year. Employees are always vested in their own contributions. More than 22 investment funds are available. Loans and hardship withdrawals are also available.
Retiree medical and dental coverage are available to employees age 55 and over with five or more years of service. Once age 65, retiree medical coverage combines with Medicare to help meet the retiree’s health care needs. For most employees who have at least 10 years of service when they retire, the company contributes towards the cost of coverage.
CIGNA Babies, fitness programs and CIGNA’s corporate lactation program. In addition, employees have access to the company’s work life programs, such as Resource and Referral, flexible work arrangements, employee discounts on child care and CIGNA’s adoption assistance program.
Who can take advantage of all this?
Most regular employees (in both full-time and part-time positions) are eligible for these benefits on their very first day of work. The health programs are priced competitively to the marketplace. LIFE INSURANCE
Life insurance comes in many forms at CIGNA. First, coverage equal to one times salary is provided automatically at no cost to employees. Employees can also purchase optional Group Universal Life Insurance coverage (one to 10 times salary, up to three million dollars) for themselves and their dependents. Coverage can be continued after employment at CIGNA ends. Optional Personal Accident Insurance pays additional benefits if an employee or dependent is involved in an accident. Coverage is available in $25,000 increments. Business Travel Accident Insurance of three times earnings (up to one million) is automatic and also company paid.
DISABILITY COVERAGE
Income protection in the event of an illness or injury is provided through CIGNA’s Short and Long-Term Disability Plans. Coverage is automatic and provided at no cost to employees. The amount of coverage is based on an employee’s earnings. For short-term benefits, the amount increases (up to 100 percent of pay) based on length of service. Part of the Short-Term Disability benefit, employees can participate in the Triumph lifestyle modification program to assist in making significant improvement to their health condition. Employees can also purchase Supplemental Long-Term coverage for added income protection.
MEDICAL AND DENTAL COVERAGE
Health care coverage is one of the most important and costly benefits for both employers and employees. That’s why the Signature Benefits program offers CIGNA employees the choice of several medical and dental plan options. Each covers a range of services, but differs in out-of-pocket amounts and employee contributions. The contributions made toward coverage are competitive with the marketplace. But unlike other employers, CIGNA provides access to many online resources for health care cost planning. This enables you to choose the most appropriate plan, and budget for expenses throughout the year. A wealth of health care decision making sites aid in deciding on the care you and your family receive.
HEALTH CARE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT
Employees can earmark up to $5,000 a year for medical expenses to go into a pre-tax account. This gives direct savings to employees from the costs incurred on health care expenses and over-the-counter medications. You can be reimbursed for things ranging from vision care products such as contact lenses and supplies, to over the counter products like bandages. CIGNA helps employees achieve these savings by making available a health care planning web site that automatically estimates the amount saved through a reimbursement account. Automatic claims processing simplifies the plan. By using these accounts, employees may reduce what’s paid in federal income tax.
VACATIONS AND HOLIDAYS
Depending on their position, years of service, and work location, employees can earn anywhere from two to five weeks vacation. Eleven holidays are generally offered each year. Both vacation and holidays are prorated for part-time employees. Of the 11 holidays, as many as four
