Welcome to a new year and a new start. As we enter 2015, it’s a good time for businesses to reflect on the past year and make new resolutions for the next 12 months.

Regardless of the industry you’re in, growing your top line and reducing costs are key objectives across all types of businesses. At iiNet, we’re focused on providing the right technology and solutions to help you work smarter to achieve these goals. This year, we’re excited to offer eligible businesses free WiFi for their customers with the purchase of any Business Bundle. There are many benefits to offering free wireless access, including increased customer retention and spend, and it takes the customer experience to the next level. Whether they’re waiting for their appointment, sitting in a café or browsing a shop, they can enjoy free WiFi at your premises without data coming off your own quota.

We’re also offering standalone mobile plans for the first time, which means our business customers will be able to purchase a mobile voice service without having to sign up to an ADSL service. Our refreshed plans come packed with heaps of value such as included calls and data (does not apply to all plans, more on page 10).

And with NBN Co’s recent announcement to roll out NBN access for an additional 1.9 million premises in the next 19 months, this year is set to be a big one in terms of technology developments.

Regards,

Greg Bader

Chief Business Officer

How does it work?

When a customer walks into your WiFi range, they can connect to the Internet for free (daily limit of 50MB) on their mobile device without affecting any of your business’ Internet quota. That’s not all. If your customer is an existing iiNet Internet account holder, they can

continue browsing the internet by logging into their account and using their own quota. We will install all the required equipment at no additional cost.

Find out if Free WiFi is available to your business.

If your business can achieve an internet speed of 6Mb+, and is located in one of our serviced metro areas (see iinet.net.au/business/wifi for a list of serviced postcodes), free WiFi is available to you!

Great news, now you can give it to them – at no additional cost to your business.

The second best part? Your customers can access a secure WiFi network without touching any of your own Internet quota.

iiNet is offering eligible businesses

complimentary WiFi installation (including access point and modem) when you sign up for any Business Bundle.

The Business

King O’Malley’s Irish Pub is an institution located in the heart of Canberra city. Established in 2000, King O’Malley’s offers free WiFi to its customers, powered by iiNet.

According to proprietor Peter Barclay, free WiFi is enjoyed by a range of customers including students, visitors and office workers. Upon visiting America, Peter noticed WiFi was ubiquitous whether he was in museums, cafes or in shops, and aimed to offer the same thing back home at his pub.

The iiNet Solution

Since King O’Malley began offering free WiFi, the business has seen a lift in customer enjoyment and retention.

“It’s one of the best things we have introduced. Customers are staying a lot longer as they’re able to have a drink, stay connected with friends and hence spend more time and money with us,” said Peter.

Peter is also experiencing repeat business during the day and in quieter periods. In particular, city workers often use their smartphones on the move and being able to tap on free WiFi enables them to stay connected while they’re out at lunch or having a drink.

As a long-time personal iiNet customer, Peter found the installation process smooth and simple. “Once we put the application in, it was up and running a few days later. Our customers are enjoying the fast speed and convenience of wireless internet. If you’re customer-facing or have a physical shopfront, I’d highly recommend taking up WiFi as it has significant benefits for business,” says Peter.

The National Broadband Network (NBN) is a national network of communications infrastructure currently being built by NBN Co on behalf of the Federal Government. It’s set to change the way Australians access the Internet, with lightning-fast fibre-optic, fixed wireless and satellite technology being made available overthe next 10 years. We talk to Brisbane-based data cabling company MTB Communications about their switch to iiNet’s Business NBN and how it has transformed the way they run their business and how they communicate with their clients.

The Business

Established in 2009, data cabling company MTB Communications performs installation and maintenance services for telephone and housing wiring systems. Based in Brisbane, business owner Marcel Bruns oversees a team of qualified technicians.

The Challenge

“When we were with another provider, we used to have a lot of issues communicating over IP phones. There would be significant lag time and connection breakups whenever we had three or four calls going on at the same time,” said Marcel.

The iiNet Solution

Less than a year ago, he swapped over to iiNet’s Business NBN after moving premises to a NBN compatible area. Marcel researched all the NBN providers available and still found iiNet offered the best small business packages.

“Since we’ve signed up for iiNet’s NBN packages, which we’ve found to be the most cost-effective and high quality, these issues have become a thing of the past.”

SYC is a not-for-profit organisation centred on employment, training and youth services. Each year, SYC helps more than 46,000 people improve their wellbeing, learning, work and home situations. As a national organisation, SYC was looking for a technology partner able to meet their national footprint with the flexibility to scale operations in the future. Previous operational challenges include a lack of scalability and access to systems and information from SYC’s central data centre across their network.

With 30 sites across Australia, SYC needed a high performing private IP network with sophisticated security features.
