Money to Study
The following is a summary of the range of funding that you can access to help
fund your studies. The funding depends on the course you choose, your age,
financial situation and where you live. For further information please contact

Pay No Tuition Fees (FE Students only)
*Students may not have to pay course tuition fees** if you receive one of the
following benefits:
•• Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
•• Income-Based Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
Evidence must be provided regarding any benefit whereby fee remission is allowed.
If you are aged 19 - 23 at the start of the course and haven’t got a full Level 2 or
Level 3 qualification you may not have to pay course fees.**
If you are over 19 and doing an Entry Level or Level 1 course and progress to a
Level 2 course (excluding ESOL courses), you may not have to pay tuition fees.**
Students returning to complete the 2nd year of a two year course may not have to pay
if they received fee remission in their first year of study.
If you are aged 24 and over and are studying a Level 3 course or above you will need to
either self-fund your tuition fees or take out a
24+ Advanced Learning Loan
. You will
need an offer letter from the College with all the relevant details required to complete
the application for a loan. Please see

Are you unemployed and not in receipt of Job Seekers or
Employment Support Allowance?
If you are unemployed and wish to enrol on a course to aid you in your search for
employment - you may not need to pay your tuition fees (excluding ESOL courses). You
would need to be claiming an active benefit i.e Income Support or Housing Benefit. If
you are eligible for remission of tuition fees under any of the above categories, please
make sure you bring up to date proof of your benefit with you when you come to enrol.
You may be eligible to reclaim exam costs through the Learner Support Fund.

Care to Learn
This scheme offers help with childcare costs for both full and part-time students
aged under 20 at the start of their course. Childcare must be registered and you
must be the main carer of the child.

Learner Support Fund (LSF)
The Learner Support Fund offers three types of bursaries to full-time students.
Premium Bursary
- This pays up to £1200 per year to students who are in care or
care leavers, who are in receipt of Income Support (in their own right) or receive both
Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance in their own name.
Standard and Basic Bursaries
- These give a substantial contribution towards the
costs of coming to College - course materials, travel and (for Standard Bursaries) meals
at College. In order to get a bursary your household income needs to be £21,000 or
less (Standard Bursary) or between £21,000 and £25,000 (Basic Bursary).
Application forms for all bursaries are available on-line, from SID offices or from the
Student Finance Team Advice Point in Westbrook Building.

For Further Education Students
(aged 19 and over)
Learner Support Fund (LSF)
There are two types of Learner Support Fund available to help students aged 19 and
over. The first fund supports students who are aged 24 or over and who are studying
a Level 3 or Level 4 Further Education course. For this fund your household income
must be £21,000 or less and you must have taken out a 24+ Advanced Learning
Loan to pay for their tuition fees.
The second fund supports students aged 19 to 23 who are studying a Level 3 or Level
4 Further Education course and students aged 19 and over who are studying a Level
2 or lower Further Education course. For this fund your household income must be
£25,000 or less.
Depending on which fund you are eligible for, you can apply for help with travel,
course materials, uniform, books, examination/tuition fees and childcare costs
(students aged 19 should apply to Care to Learn for childcare).
Application forms for both funds are available on-line, from SID offices or from the
Student Finance Team Advice Point in Westbrook Building.
