1st commercial producing well drilled 1860. Wells drilled in 76 of Ohio’s 88 counties. More than 275,000 wells drilled. Over 64,481 wells currently producing as of 3/2/12 Ohio ranked 4th in number of wells drilled after Texas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. Annual Production in 2011: • 73 billion cubic feet of natural gas • 4.9 million barrels of crude oil
2010 statistics; does not include Utica horizontal wells
A 1280 acre unit would require 32 vertical wells. A single 5 acre horizontal pad, which can accommodate 8‐12 wells, would service the 1280 acre area. 15‐20 stages of perforating and fracturing per horizontal well. For more than 50 years, hydraulic fracturing has been used in Ohio. More than 15,000 wells have used hydraulic Fractured in Ohio since 1990. www.fracfocus.org http://marcelluscoalition.org/2009/01/drill ing‐process‐video/

U. S. Geological Survey “richest swath of the Utica in Ohio encompasses all or most of Jefferson, Harrison, Carroll and Stark counties, and parts of Coshocton and Guernsey counties.” The sweet spot, oil window, is entirely in Ohio with a predicted 17,500 wells needed to extract the assessed 940 million barrels of oil. ‐ USGS TOC% ‐ Weight percentage of organic carbon S1 = amount of free hydrocarbons in sample (mg/g)
