What is BI?

Business intelligence (BI) enables you to make informed business decisions with the data you have available. BI has

been in existence for decades and as we move towards a digitised economy, BI is crucial to modern business models. Data is perhaps the most valuable commodity a company possess, and BI helps mine for the very best quality, interpret this and assist in making data based decisions.

BI can appear overwhelming, there are different interpretations depending on your company size, structure and culture. At its core, it is applied across all sectors and has multiple basic functions from predicative analytics to enhanced data visualisation. Connect BI, hosted by Rolls Royce, will help you understand how to use BI to its full potential.

Jump on the trend

With such a rapid uptake of BI systems worldwide, the BI market is worth over $13.3 billion. This is expected to rise to $20.81 billion by 2018.

Cloud based

Benefits of BI

When applied correctly, and regardless of your industry, product or goals, BI is the essential piece in any successful company. From the software, to the people, to the structures put in place, here are the top five benefits of having a BI system in your organisation.

Interpreting data. Nowadays, everyone has mountains of data. From numerous Excel spreadsheets to

copious notes on paper, data is everywhere. BI sifts through everything to extract exactly what you need. This gives you the ability to make well-grounded, data based decisions for your company.

Reduced costs. Every successful firm needs to keep costs low. It’s what makes them successful. BI tools

can provide a focused eye on where money is coming in and going out, providing an easier way for you to cut costs and adjust production.

Real time information. Keeping a constant eye on your company is hard at the best of times. BI allows

you to keep up to date as things happen with quick access to all business metrics. Reports and dash- boards on both desktop and mobile devices provide critical business information wherever you are.

Competitive edge. We’ve all heard of the benefits CRM, ERP and MES can bring to a company. With

its ability to monitor machinery through Big Data and IoT, improve quality control and enhance marketing and customer service, BI is key to business success.

Predict the future. The hardest part of any strategy is to anticipate what will happen in the future, both

expected and unexpected. BI allows firms to navigate problematic situations and be prepared when they inevitably occur.
