Lesson Plan: (Listening and Speaking Skills) Subject : English Class : Year 2 Date : 13th August 2015 Day : Thursday Time : 10.30am-11.30am Enrolment : 31 pupils Attendance : 31 pupils

Theme : World of Knowledge Topic : Unit 14, Food (SJKC) Focus skills : Listening and Speaking Integrated skills : Reading and Writing

Content Standard : 1.1 By the end of the 6 year primary schooling, pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation.

Learning Standard : 1.1.4. Able to talk about a stimulus with guidance. Explicit/Objectives : By the end of the lesson,

a. Pupils should be able to listen to the simple sentences. b. Pupils should be able to speak in simple sentences. c. Pupils should be able to respond to simple sentences. Previous knowledge : Pupils have learned about food in previous lesson. CCTS : a. Generating ideas about food.

b. Making association c. Creating mental pictures Moral values : Appreciaton

Set Induction (+5 minutes) Whole class activity Watching Video Question and answer

1. Teacher plays the video entitled ‘Food’.

2. Pupils listen and watch the video. 3. Teacher asks pupils simple questions, pupils answer the questions.

Questions:

1. What food do you see from the video?

2. What do you have this morning? 3. What do you like to eat?

Rationale: -To attract the pupils’ interest on the lesson that is going to be carried out.

-To give general idea to the pupils of what is going to be learned today. Teaching Aids: -Video Multiple Intelligences: -Verbal-linguistic

Presentation (+15 minutes) Whole class activity Power point presentation of the text

1. Teacher shows the passage on the slide.

2. Teacher explains the passage which about the different kinds of food.

3. Teacher asks the pupils what they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. .

Rationale:

-To gain the pupils’ attentions of food. -To let the pupils know what they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Production (+15 minutes) Whole class activity Chain asking Describe the pictures.

1 Pupils stand in a group.

2. Teacher points the picture on the paper and asks the first pupil of the group, ‘What do you like to eat?’ 3. Pupil answers in simple sentence about the food start with ‘I like to eat_____’.

4. The first pupil asks the second pupil in the group the same question and the second pupil answers in the same way with different kinds of food teacher points.

5. The chain asking keeps going until the last pupil in the group. 6. Teacher gives a set of pictures of food in an envelope to every group of pupils.

7. Pupils need to write simple sentences describe the pictures of food with guided words. 8. Teacher selects the group randomly. 9. The selected group of pupils need to come out and say about the pictures without reading the paper.

Rationale:

-To check whether the pupils can understand the kinds of food learned just now. -To check whether the pupils can understand the instructions given. -To check whether the pupils can respond with correct answers.
