Volume 38, Number 1 January 2021

It is with such mixed emotions (happy-sad, anxious-hopeful) that I have set my retirement date for December 31, 2020. I have worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 32 years and I have been honored to serve here in Camarillo Springs for the best 18 years. I have delivered mail here through horrific winds, two terrible fires, disastrous mud slides, evacuations and now quarantines. But I still tell everyone that I work in the best “outdoor office” weather anywhere. I have been privileged to have witnessed the amazing strength and concern for each other in this unique and compassionate neighborhood, have gotten my beautiful “baby fixes” and have enjoyed watching many of them grow up. I have come to know most of the names of my emotional support dogs and kitties on my route. These have been some of the most rewarding and memorable years.

As I journey onto my next life adventures of spending quality time with my eight beautiful grandchildren, gardening, arts and crafts, playing the piano, reading and experiencing new interests; I will always cherish the wisdom, personal stories and places visited that many of you have shared with me. Thank you dearly. I plan to stay here in Ventura County so I am sure that I will still see many of you around though I may not be as recognizable out of my uniform. My sincere well wishes and blessings and especially Hugs to all of you. Peace and heartfelt Love.

Molly Burger, one of her emotional support animals mentioned in her letter

“Thank you so much for helping organize the amaing mailbox decorations. I was shocked and in awe of the outpouring of love but that’s exactly how this wonderful community is. Miss everyone already. My last day was the most amazing day of my career thanks to everyone.”

Text received from Cathy the following day:

ED NOTE: I replied to Cathy that decorating

the mailboxes was Judy Cash’ s idea,

not mine. When Judy mentioned that she was going to decorate

hers, I thought it

was a fantastic idea and asked if it was ok to ask Malisa

to send the suggestion to

everyone; she agreed. We were thrilled

that so many of you took it to heart and went the extra mile to make the day so special.

MORE TO COME!

But wait, we’re not quite finished in ensuring that Cathy has a proper send off into retirement. On Saturday, January 9 at 11 am, there will be a vehicle parade where we’ll have an opportunity to wish her Happy Retirement once more. Everyone is encouaged to participate; there will be a box for cards/gifts. Vehicles will line up at the top of Lada at N. San Como Lane; please don’t line up earlier than 10:45am! People will be there to help organize and lead the parade.

Our neighbors in the adjacent mobile home park had their first annual golf cart Christmas parade. Kathy McGowan, who owns a golf cart, teamed up with Springs resident Heidi Jacobsen to participate in this fun Covid-safe outing. They decided after the parade to leave the decorations up to spread Holiday Cheer throughout our entire community. On several evenings Kathy and Heidi drove the cart to pass out candy. Many residents asked them to stop by when their Grandchildren were visiting! Look for them next year!

It’s Never Boring in

The Springs!

Springer Barbara Gzyl says she saw the neighborhood egret sitting on top of a chimney on Lada. She liked how he used one of his feet on the outside to steady him [zoom in on the photo on the left]. She was concerned that we had lost him after seeing the article about birds dying from the oil leak on the golf course.
