Stewardship: A Way of Life 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Get up and eat or the journey will be too much for you!”

1 Kings 19:7

God knows that committing to a stewardship lifestyle is difficult. However, we were not designed to do it on our own, we need His help.

Fortunately, God gave us the greatest gift of all, His son, Jesus. Through the gift of the Eucharist we join our sacrifice with the sacrifice of the Holy Mass and receive the strength and courage to be His joyful disciples.

WORD OF LIFE: “Although we may feel unsure how best to comfort those who mourn,

we must stand with them in their time of suffering. Miscarriage touches the lives of many people, yet all too often this tragedy remains unaddressed.

This lack of response not only often leads to unresolved grief, but also fails to clearly manifest our belief that each person, from conception onward, is precious and unique.”

A Note from Our Pastor ...

I have enjoyed watching the Olympics since 1972 when they were in Munich. I measured distances around the block and ran races with neighborhood kids. I hoped to get a stopwatch for a Christmas

present. Since the ancient Olympics in Greece spanned the centuries before and after Christ, the biblical writers knew of them. The apostle in I Corinthians 9:24 spoke of the need for

discipline, whether one was an athlete or a disciple of Jesus. Just as the runner runs to win the prize, so we should live as disciples, giving our utmost for God.

At St. Mary, please join me for a 5-minute tour after Mass to see some of the problems with our current building. We hope to begin building a new parish center next spring.

Here are my notes on “worship” from the 2nd week of the “Bread of Life” Discourse.

In heaven there is ongoing worship of God, the heavenly liturgy (Rev 7:15).

Every time we celebrate Mass, we participate in the heavenly liturgy (Heb 12:22, Catechism #1090).

During the song “Holy Holy Holy,” we move from earth (Is 6:3) to heaven (Rev 4:8).

To the extent that we cooperate with the Holy Spirit who awakens our faith, especially in the scripture readings, we will encounter Christ in the liturgy (Catechism #1098).

Fr. David

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Madison cultivate a love for Christ and his Church by inviting students and the entire school community to meet and know Jesus and embrace a loving God. Catholic schools seek to as- sist parents with excellent and academic formation for their children, developing the talents of all students and fostering a commitment to service, justice, and the sanctity of human life. Please see the insert detailing the importance of Catholic Schools and how you can help contribute to their success.

Love Begins Here...High School mission trip from July 25-30

Six youth from St. Mary joined the more than 50 missionaries at St. Maria Goretti Parish, Madison. Although the work days were hot, humid, and sometimes grueling while weeding, landscaping, weeding, painting, weeding, hauling rocks, weeding, picking beans, and weeding...missionaries found it hard to say goodbye to their new and old friends! In addition to the service provided, youth

joined together for fun outdoor activities, prayer, daily Mass, and lessons on the life of Saint Mother Teresa who teaches us to do small things with great love. (pictured: Korissa Benson, Jasmine Krause, Samantha Benson, Ryan Scherdin, Rowan Jauch, Justin Scherdin and Sabrina.)
