This month’s goal is to spend some time decluttering your whole home. This might seem incredibly overwhelming

but with simple steps and just a couple minutes a day you’ll find yourself decluttering all month long and that will lead to a whole lot of stuff out of your home - yay!

Follow that decluttering notion you have this month with the start of the new year and capitalize on it. Not feeling motivated? Try a few of my quick tips for getting

motivated to declutter and clean.

Try one or all of these tips for getting motivated to declutter and clean.

D E C L U T T E R

Get a jumpstart on the new year and declutter your home. Start with three garbage bags, fill them up with just with the stuff you can toss. Toss = get rid of forever. Take the time to evaluate your home and belongings and be okay with letting go of the stuff that is in your way and taking up space.

S E T A T I M E R

Use a timer to get your decluttering done. Set it for at least 5 minutes and see how much you can accomplish in a short period of time. If you’re short on time set it for 5 minutes every day this month and declutter just for a bit. Over the course of the month those daily spurts of 5 minutes will add up to almost three hours of decluttering time.

S E T T H E M O O D

What makes you feel like cleaning? Figure out what motivates you and set the tone for your decluttering session. Music, a podcast, cleaning videos - choose something that makes you want to declutter and clean and get motivated to get down to business.

Z E R O I N O N A S M A L L A R E A

Everyone gets overwhelmed from time to time when it comes to decluttering. Just thinking about it might overwhelm you. The easiest way to avoid that feeling of overwhelm is to choose a small space to start with. If you have a hard time breaking down a large space into a manageable decluttering project, use a piece of painter’s tape and section off a small area to work on. Once you’ve completed that area move the tape to the next area.

Make it a goal to get your kitchen sink empty after dinner every night. This step made into a habit will make your mornings run more smoothly and it will be a little gift to yourself.

C L E A N C O U N T E R S

One of the items on the kitchen checklist is to completely clear your kitchen counters and wipe them clean. After you do this, make sure you edit your items and only keep things that you use daily or a few times a week on the counters. Keep those counters clean and clear this month and watch that habit form.

N I G H T LY S C R U B

If you haven’t tried my Nightly Sink Scrub recipe, you need to! Mix up a jar and keep it under your kitchen sink. Once your sink is empty, your dishes washed and/or loaded in the dishwasher, give your sink a little sprinkle and scrub. Rinse thoroughly and dry - it’s a little aromatherapy for your evening routine.

Spring Cleaning

Q U I C K T I P S M O N T H L Y F O C U S

Try one or all of these tips for getting motivated to spring clean.

S P R I N G C L E A N I N G C A D D Y

Before you think about spring cleaning, grab a caddy + put together your favorite tools. Keep everything in an easy to grab spot. When you feel like doing a little spring cleaning, grab your caddy and get started. A couple of my favorites? Microfiber cloths, bar mop cloths, lint roller, all-purpose and window/mirror cleaner, scrub, dish soap, grout and heavy duty scrub brushes, extendable reach duster, and of course the vacuum cleaner.

O L D - F A S H I O N E D C L E A N I N G

Spring cleaning is mostly just cleaning surfaces, dusting + getting the grime from the winter cleaned up. Mix up 4 cups of warm

water and 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of castile or dish soap.

Add 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oils if you’d like a little scent! Stock up on bar mop towels + have a scrub brush handy.

WA S H T H O S E B A S E B O A R D S

I love clean baseboards and they are definitely one of those quintessential spring cleaning tasks. Castile soap is the ultimate gentle, yet effective cleaning powerhouse. Find castile soap in the natural beauty aisle at many retailers or on Amazon. If you don’t have any on hand, you can substitute your favorite dish soap - the kind you’d use for hand washing dishes.

The Bathroom(s)

Q U I C K T I P S M O N T H L Y F O C U S

Try disinfecting with hydrogen peroxide to clean your bathroom.

W H A T I S I T ?

Its chemical compound is H2O2 - water and oxygen. It’s a colorless and odorless liquid (it looks like water) with non-toxic whitening (bleaching) properties. These same properties are also EXCELLENT at killing germs.

H O W C A N I T B E U S E D ?

Because of its non-toxic chemical makeup it can be used to disinfect toothbrushes, clean wounds, lighten hair, and CLEAN!

W H E R E C A N I T B E U S E D T O C L E A N ? Bathrooms and kitchens and laundry rooms - it’s especially good for disinfecting, mold removal, and stains on white clothing.

A R E T H E R E A N Y P R E C A U T I O N S ?

Hydrogen Peroxide is unstable when it comes in contact with light so you need to keep it in the original brown bottle. If it comes in contact with colored clothing, carpet, towels, etc. it will bleach the fibers. It also has an acidity of 11.75 so DO NOT use it on stone (granite, marble, etc.) as it will etch the surface over time.

H O W C A N I U S E I T ?

Use straight out of the bottle if you’re pretreating a stain (on white clothing).

Mix up with a little baking soda for a cleaning paste, scrub and rinse clean.

This works great for icky grout.

M Y F AV O R I T E M E T H O D ?

Simply put a sprayer on the bottle, spray on a surface that needs disinfection, let it sit and wipe clean.

O 1 gallon warm/hot water O 1/2 teaspoon Castile or dish soap

O 10 drops lemon or orange essential oils (if desired)

Q U I C K T I P S M O N T H L Y F O C U S

Try these tips for getting motivated to clean out your garage or basement.

O V E R W H E L M E D ? U S E T A P E !

If you are trying to clean or declutter any surface or space, take a roll of painter’s tape and section off a square and just work in that space. Set a timer and concentrate on just that space. This is especially helpful for areas that have a lot of sentimental stuff or memorabilia.

S T O C K T H E C A R

Before things get going for the summer, take a couple minutes to clean it out and get it ready for the summer. Add a plastic bag or garbage receptacle for trash. Add a lint roller and a microfiber cloth or mitt to the glove box to wipe down the dash and surfaces when you’re sitting waiting for the kids.

B Y T H E B U C K E T C L E A N E R

Basements and garages tend to be especially grungy. Use this mixture for the especially dirty spots like shelves and floors. Wash, scrub, and repeat until your space is clean. No rinsing is necessary.
