EU Mobile

Challenge, first

edition: The

competition for

European young

app developers.

IE Business School and Applied Innovative Institute, in collaboration with Mobile World Capital Barcelona are organizing the first edition of the EU Mobile Challenge. It is about the European mobile development contest that is going to happen previous the World competition. Europe adds itself to the challenge already begun by Asia, the United States and the Middle East. The winners of this competition will dispute the final at 4 Years From Now (4YFN), the startup event devoted to innovation in the mobile and digital ecosystem that it is part of Mobile World Congress 2015.

The objective of the EU Mobile Challenge is to give the opportunity to young developers in making their ideas come true. These developers will be able to present their apps and games in front of a specialized audience, achieving visibility, fund and potential users. In addition to that, the competitors will compete with the support of IE Business School, which will organize acceleration days for the young developers. In these sessions, the participants will receive a valuable formation, so that they can be better prepared and be more

competitive in the contest and even after it.

The participants will have the chance to dedicate professionally to the Mobile app

development, gaining complete experience, learning and international networking. With the event, we will be seeking new talent in order to encourage the entrepreneurship and the innovation the market is demanding.

14 European countries are invited to participate in this first edition: France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Scandinavia (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) Spain, Switzerland and UK.

The application process will end on December 31st. The potential developers can apply on the website of the event: EUMobileChallenge.com. The participants have to form teams from 2 to 6 members. At least one of the team members must be between 18 and 25 years of age. During the application step, the working prototype is not required.

A local pre-selection will take place in each country or region, and 3 candidates of each country will compete at the final of the EU Mobile Challenge in Barcelona in mid-February. Afterwards, the 4YFN, an event for entrepreneurs, part of the Mobile World Congress 2015 (2nd-5th March), will host the world final.

First of their kind in each region, combining entrepreneurial initiative and concrete mobile development .

• Many countries have done Mobile Challenges but no one has a truly international one sanctioned by the GSMA and culminating at the GSMA Conference in Barcelona. • A low risk and effective way to engage young entrepreneurs, and provide them

necessary tools to advance their entrepreneurial pursuits

• Creates real opportunities for youths to subsequently scale startups and help generate local employment

• Resulting native or mobile web apps will be key drivers for crowdsourcing of user-generated local developing country digital content

• Such a platform would attract sponsors who 1) seek local digital content, and 2) are interested in investing in CSR initiatives targeting youth development in the region.
