Subject: Snow routes / Procedures

In the event of winter weather situations, such as heavy snows or ice, which make road conditions hazardous, the Branson Schools Transportation Department will place school buses on emergency snow routes until such time as road conditions improve.

The decision to switch to snow routes will be made by administration and the public will be notified through local media in the same manner as with school closings.

Generally, snow routes will be restricted to main roads that are cleared first by county or city maintenance crews. In the event that a road has not been cleared although designated as a snow route, the bus may not be able to negotiate safely and will remain on the cleared

thoroughfare. Areas that have steep grades, sharp curves, and turnarounds will not be traversed. Pickup and drop-off points on many routes will be consolidated at central locations. Route drivers will provide information to riders and parents concerning their particular snow route. In addition, descriptions and information on all snow routes will be available at all school offices and the transportation department.
