Dear Parents and Students
Administrators’ Message Student - Led Conferences
Traditionally, parent - teacher conferences have been the primary means of infor-mation sharing about student progress. This has typically meant that teachers and parents would have a short discussion with the student about their progress. Our students have been developing the skills necessary to take an active role in sharing their learning strengths and challenges with their parents. As a school we have been creating an awareness in each classroom of the ‘Big Ideas’ of what they are learning by clearly stating and displaying Learning Intentions in the classroom. The criteria clearly lays out what needs to be done in order to be successful and gives each student the ability to self – assess and enhance their learning. These skills will allow our students to take ownership of their learning by being the leaders at their conferences in March.
Parents will sign up for a half- hour period with each of their children on School Appointments online. During this time your child will share with you some of their strengths and challenges this term. You will have an opportunity to discuss some goals with your child based on the criteria that has been established in the class. There will be an opportunity to speak with the teacher as well as celebrate with your son/daughter. Each classroom will have approximately 3 families in the room at the same time. Our Grade 7/8 students will have an opportunity to visit all three teachers in an open house format.
We feel strongly that our students will gain valuable skills as they take ownership for their learning and act as facilitators for the conference. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. More information about booking times will follow.

FROM THE GYM
Basketball
All FOUR of our La Salle Lancers Basketball Teams have just completed their regular season play. La Salle had an extremely successfully basketball season thus far – a big part of that was due to our dedicated, passionate and hard-working players and coaches. The 50 students that played this year learned about - commitment, teamwork and skills used in the game of basketball. A big thank-you goes out to all the par-ents that drove to our away games. A special thank you to Mr. Friesen, Mr. Siemens, Mr. Loeppky, Mr. Lindquist, Mrs. Rodewald, Mr. Baerg and Mrs. Baxter for coaching our teams, and also to our staff supervi-sor – Mrs. Kampen. We would also like to thank our volunteer scorekeepers who help make the game run smoothly - Ryan E, Aidan B, Paige M, Alyssa B, Ashlyn T, Shayanna B, and Jordan B.
Ski & Snowboarding Outing
La Salle School again this year offered the students of grade seven and eight a one-day ski and snow-board outing to Holiday Mountain that took place Friday February 28, 2020. There were 48 students that participated along with 8 supervisors– Mrs. Agostino, Mr. Meyer, Mr. Walther, Mr. Ens, Ms. Smith, Ms. Gushuliak, Mrs. Rodelwald and Mr. Loeppky. Great weather and conditions.
Badminton
Badminton is the next Divisional sport. Four boys and four girls at each grade level will be selected to rep-resent our school at the Divisional Badminton Tournament. The competition will take place during the day on May 7, 2020 at the U of M – Frank Kennedy Building (brown & gold gyms). The team will be coached by Mrs. Darla Rodewald, Mr. Brian Loeppky & Mrs. Ali Kampen
Jump Rope for Heart
La Salle School will be taking part in the Heart and Stroke “Jump Rope for Heart” again this year. Classes from grades 1 to 4 will be asked to participate. The threat of heart disease and stroke to our kids is a se-rious issue. Only fifty percent of Canadian kids are active enough each day to help ensure basic, healthy development. This is an excellent opportunity to continue our quest towards a healthier community. A per-mission slip will be sent home with your son/daughter on March 20th – if your son/daughter is interested in participating please return the YELLOW permission slip by March 25th and they will be given a collection envelope. The collection envelope is due April 24 - Spring Break and Easter are an excellent time to ask family and friends for their support. Contributions may also be made online if unable to do it in person. Intramurals

We are starting to make plans for costumes. Some of the costumes will
be hand made and we will also try to borrow from our partner schools.
However, we will be requiring some help from parents to find some
items for their child. Following Spring Break we will send home a letter
that list items that each cast member needs to find to complete their
costume.
Staff Lunch!
On February 18th our class 5/6 Wiens held a staff
lunch to all the staff members of La Salle School. The
purpose of the lunch was to raise money for the
glo-bal goals we put together in social studies. One of the
global goals was to reduce one- use plastic and
ano-ther goal was to compost more around the school.
The theme of the lunch was “diner.” We decided to
make cheeseburgers with homemade relish, fries and
coleslaw, caeser salad, tomato soup and brownies. If
anyone wanted they could also get pop for an extra
50 cents. This lunch was 18.00 dollars including the
pop. We raised $170.40 after paying back the cost of
all the groceries. Which means we could use this
ex-tra money to by metal cutlery and more composting
materials.
