In the belief that this has been a truly

momentous

year in

Chowan

College's history,the 1958

Chowanoka

Staffhasselected,

"Toward

New

Horizons," as the Yearbooktheme.

The

many

and significant steps toward an ever-widening

horizon that

Chowan

has taken this year, have inspired us to

capture in the pages of this Yearbook, something of her future

place ofleadership inthefieldof Christian HigherEducation.

Because of the initiation and success of the

Enlargement-DevelopmentEffort,

Chowan

Collegewillsoonbein aconstruction

program which will see the seven proposed buildings become

realities. Sketches of these proposed buildings will appear as division pages throughoutthe Yearbook.

Chowan

College

now

standsatthethreshold ofevengreater

service tothe Northeastern NorthCarolinaandTidewaterVirginia areas. Her steady advance "Toward

New

Horizons" will ever

enable hertobringencouragement andassistance tothe youthof

theseareas, asthey

move

and for humanity.

homecoming

battle from the opening whistle and the

game

was

highlighted by savage play on the part of two well-coached lines. The Cadets got the game's first

tally, but J. C. Young

made

it 6-6 just three minutes later

he went over from the one-yard line.

Late in the third period the Braves wrapped it up

when

the season closed.

Three fine and powerful fullbacks were a real joy to Coach Davis: Lawerence Kearson and Lanny Roof

were consistent and dependable and Clyde

Morgan
