Greetings Elks,

As you all know it has been a trying year, but we have made the best of the situation. You all have been wonderful!!! You continue to come to the Lodge and support us with no com- plaints. And I would like to thank you all very much. It is difficult on all of you and the staff to continue to do this every day.

I would like to take this time to thank every- body for working so hard to keep our Lodge safe. All our members, staff and volunteers for everything you do every day, you are what makes us so good.

September 6

th

was Labor Day, we had a

wonderful BBQ. It was lots fun and very well attended. We are glad you came out and enjoyed the food and the music. Continue to read your bulletin for upcoming events from the House Committee.

There have been many changes from the House Committee if you have not noticed on the calendar. There is no longer karaoke on Wednesday night it is burn your own steak.

Monday night we have football in the small bar, and we now have Bingo on Monday night.

So, please look at your calendar for all the changes.

I look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Want to have some fun come in and see us!

Remember this is your Elks Lodge!

Fraternally Yours, Sandra Brookins Greetings Fellow Elks,

Come out and join us on one of our new nights.

Monday Night football, Wednesday cook your own Steak Night, Friday Night Dinner Dance, or Saturday Night Karaoke. Surely one of those nights appeals to you; so come out and join us.

Numerous changes have taken place in the small bar with the addition of two new large screen televisions with sound bars. Plus, a new menu on Monday nights for football, come check out a game.

The Lodge has had some challenging times during the past few months, but hopefully the worst is behind us.

Currently, I am making the rounds to the District Deputy visitations at all the other Lodges. Please consider coming to a District Deputy visitation at a Lodge of your choice. Please call the office for the schedule.

Remember, Tuesday night is meeting night. The bar opens at 4:30 with dinner from 5:00 to 6:30, with meeting at 7:00. Come out and participate in your Lodge.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 760-390-6710.

Fraternally Yours, Samuel Brookins

Hey All,

It's October 2021, wow! Where has the time gone?

The Oceanside Elks Lodge these past weeks have had quite a positive response in members’

support. We also thank you for bringing your friends and family to the Lodge and showing them why you are proud to be an Elk.

I have seen an increase of membership applications going out, make sure to follow up on those.

In October we will have our Annual Halloween Karaoke party. Make sure to dress up, it's going to be lots of fun.

Membership is always seeking volunteers to support the Sunset Market Booth and making outreach calls to new and existing members, helping with Orientation and other ways to maintain member involvement.

Continue to show your support and participate to continue to make your lodge fun again.

Yours in Elkdom, Kameelah Young

B.P.O.E. stands for The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (or as they are affectionately known, the Best People On Earth). Elks are American Citizens who want to save its great values; who love others and want to make sure they are healthy and happy; and who love life and want to contribute to it, as well as to share it. As a member, we find there is nothing better than serving our community through the various activities and charities supported by our local Elks Lodge.

We would like to welcome our newest sponsor

All Tune and Lube’

. Thank you for advertising in our Bulletin.

Happy Fall Everyone!

It’s hard to believe it is October already. We have just finished our District Deputy’s visitation which was very well attended, for which, our Lodge was complimented on our hospitality and menu.

Speaking of the menu, our house committee has been doing a great job in working with our Chef in sprucing up the menu and providing more choices. We are open for Monday Night Football with a special menu.

Wednesdays has a grill your own steak night. Our Fridays and Saturdays are changing up the entertain- ment also.

I state the above as part of our brotherly love is not only to assist others in need, but also to support OUR Lodge.

Yes, it is OUR Lodge. It needs the membership to come to our events and meetings to continue to provide our doctrine of benevolence. I have recently seen some new members coming in, but we need more of that presence.

I look forward to continue to see the regular faces but especially the new ones.

Yours in Elkdom,

Dave Hamilton

At the recent District Deputy's Official visitation to our Lodge on Tuesday, September 21st, raffle tickets were sold with 1/2 the proceeds to go to the Purple Pig (Piggy Bank). Through the sales of the tickets, we collected $250.

The ticket was drawn and the lucky ticket holder was John Preiss, a three year member of our Lodge. John declined the $125.00 he had just won. Instead, John told us to give it back to the Purple Pig! Thank you John for your generosity in support of our children with disabilities to help them to walk, talk, see and play.

John is seen here with our Exalted Ruler Samuel H. Brookins, III.

BBQ A day of

When a flashlight grows dim or quits working, do you just throw it away?

Of course not. You change the batteries.

When a person messes up or finds themselves in a dark place, do you cast them aside? Of course not!

You help them change their batteries.

Some need AA…..attention and affection; Some need C...compassion;

Some need D…direction.

And, if they still don’t seem to shine...simply sit with them quietly and share your light...

Friday, September 24th, our beloved PER Stan Buczkowski

celebrated his

95th birthday with us here at the Lodge.

He shared this beautiful, not to mention his,

Thank you Stan, we look forward to your

NEWS FROM YOUR ELKS MAJOR PROJECT . . . We cannot thank Jocelyn our Speech and Language Pathologist enough for all of her work with Zoe. Zoe’s speech improved very rapidly after beginning therapy.

Within the first session Zoe was making constant sounds that she had

never before produced. I no longer have any concerns relating to Zoe’s

speech. She has met and exceeded all of our goals for her speech. I think

Occupational Therapist Valerie does an excellent job and offers me

resources such as books, handouts, OT toys, etc. Proactively all these

resources and the education she’s provided have helped me understand

my child, actually my children, almost all of it applies to his twin sister it

turns out and made me a more confident parent. Thank you ever so

much for providing this service.

There’s been a lot of buzz lately about the Elks National Foundation’s monthly giving program—the Fidelity Club.

So what does it mean to be a sustaining giver?

What is the Fidelity Club?

The Fidelity Club recognizes donors who support the ENF monthly with automatic, scheduled donations made through their checking account or credit card. These are referred to as

“sustaining gifts.”

Why is the Fidelity Club important?

This sustainable method of giving helps the ENF save on administrative costs so we can focus more time and resources on our programs, like scholarships and Community Invest- ments Program grants. Monthly gifts help sustain our programs for years to come, and also help the ENF provide relief during times of crisis or increased need, like during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is the minimum monthly gift amount?

To join the Fidelity Club, you can give as little as $5 a month.

That’s the equivalent of a fancy coffee or your favorite value meal!

Can I be in the Fidelity Club by giving annually?

The Fidelity Club is an exclusive recognition program for sustaining givers. To join the Fidelity Club, donors must establish an automatic, scheduled monthly donation through a credit card or checking account. Join the Fidelity Club at enf.elks.org/Fidelity, or mail the ENF a completed enroll- ment form found at enf.elks.org/Fidelity.

FYI:

Myself and my wife, Sandy, are members and donate $10.00 each each month.

Greg, ENF Lodge Chairman

It saddens us to report the passing of these most beloved Elks.

Please place their loved ones in your Hearts and Prayers.

SICKNESS AND DISTRESS

Lydia Berry recently lost both a sister and brother.

“Barry Frank Porter” was born on March 19, 1930 in National City, California. He was initiated into our Lodge on July 25, 2006. Barry sadly passed away on August 30, 2021.

Barry was a 16 year member who loved the Elks. Barry leaves behind his loving wife Dee and family. Barry chaired our Hoop Shoot project for several years. We thank Dee and Mrs. Billy Galizio for their generous donation to the Piggy Bank in honor of Barry.

We thank Barry’s next door neighbor Billy for bringing this sad news to our attention.

PER Carole May reported that Barry played Basketball for UCLA in the 50s for legendary coach John Wooden. Barry loved basketball and the Elks.

Poway Lodge # 2543 reported the passing of member Dennis Rasmussen on September

15th due to Covid related complications. They ask if you would please keep his wife

Janet, PDDGER, and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
