Reading
the Bible can belife-changing
. The reason is becausethe Bible is more than
just print on a page but words that breathe life into our souls.
We encounter the living Word when we read the written word of God.If you are reading this you are joining many in our church to undertake the “Luke Challenge” to read Luke’s Gospel once a month in 2012. There are 24 chapters so it is about a chapter a day with some leisure. This is a guide to help you track your progress each month. The goal is not a checklist mentality but a consistent motivator to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ.
In preparation
, here are some helpful tips on yourR.O.A.D. to Bible study:
Read to understand.
Choose a translation that you are comfortable reading. Pastor Dave’s teaching usually comes from the English Standard Version (ESV). Others are the HolmanChristian Standard Bible (HCSB), New King James, and in some cases the New International Version (NIV).
Observe the simple truths about the passage.
Questions to answer: What does this passage say about God/Jesus? What does this passage say about mankind/me?
Analyze the key words and teachings of the passage.
There may be difficult concepts or questions that arise for you. Write them down to research or ask a friend.
Do put into practice what you are learning.
There are truths to believe, actions to take and undoubtedly habits to cease (James 1:22). There should be application for yourself, your family and our church; seek to discuss these with others.Rest
assured there will be weeks and months where you will stall or stop reading. Do not getdiscouraged, it happens. Simply pickup where you left off and start afresh. God is faithfully waiting for you to return. May the Holy Spirit open your eyes to increase in faith and ignite a passion to
Love God, Love Others and Lead Generations.
