Since opening our agency as Cruise Holidays in 1994, the goal was “work to play.” This meant that we were willing to put in long hours to make the business suc- cessful, but we also wanted travel time. We always planned 2-4 cruis- es every year and later, as we could afford more travel advisors, it increased to 4-6 cruises a year.

So, you can imagine our distress in going without a cruise for 27 1/2 months! We returned home from the Crystal Serenity on June 21, 2019 having no idea where the world was headed.

We have had ten of our own cruis- es cancelled, plus hundreds for clients. It has been a never ending process of booking and cancel- ling...sometimes, to the point that we think we can’t do it for one more minute.

Then we will have a few weeks where we see a light at the end of the tunnel and decide it really is daylight and not an on-coming train. That light keeps us going during the next wave of cancella- tions. But every time we have to talk to a client about a cancellation it breaks our hearts. We know you all want to travel as much as we do!

At this point, the future is certainly looking brighter. Our bookings are very strong for 2022, 2023 and,

even 2024 and, having finally cruised from New York to Ber- muda on the Crystal Sympho- ny in October, the world seems even brighter! What a differ- ence a cruise makes!

I have been saying I need an attitude adjustment, but it turns out all I really needed was to experience that won- derful ocean breeze and 7 days of meals being prepared and 24/7 pampering. It put a whole new perspective on life!

While Covid has certainly changed a lot in the world, cruising is one place where we need to look at the positive side. Scott is writing about his cruising experience on Celebri- ty and I want to tell you about our experience on Crystal.

The cruise lines have spent a massive amount of time and money preparing for guests to return. I have no doubt many of these changes will stay in place long after the threat of Covid is over, making cruising even safer than ever before.

On Crystal, every single person on the ship must be fully vac- cinated. The crew is required to wear masks, but it is at the passenger’s discretion. On our ship, there were a handful of passengers who wore them.

There was a temperature check before you entered any restaurant and hand sanitizer stations were literal- ly everywhere!

Passengers were not al- lowed to touch any food whether at the buffet or in the Bistro—it was always placed on your plate by a crew member and carried to your table.

We could not “see” the smiles on their faces, but the sparkle in their eyes certainly told us how excited and happy the staff was to be back on board.

As a requirement by the Bermuda government, we had to have a PCR test 4 days prior to boarding the ship and then another one at the terminal. The ship was not allowed to disem- bark passengers in Bermuda until on board test results came back showing nega- tive results for the entire ship. It felt like we were sail- ing in a protective bubble!

Yes, there are more hoops to jump through than travelers are use to but I can honestly say that the experience, once you ar- rive on the ship, is worth it!

I think we are all ready to get back to some sort of normalcy, and I hope you will agree that the new normal is pretty amazing!

It just felt so darn good to sit on our balcony and watch the world go by;

listen to Louie sing It’s a Wonderful World as we sailed away from port;

enjoy my hamburger or salmon at the grill and visit with fellow passen- gers. The world feels so small when we are not allowed to travel. We have all been cooped up too long—let’s pack those suitcases and get out there! There is a big won- derful world waiting for us to explore.

GET OUT THERE!

Just like when a new hotel is built in Las Vegas, new ships bring such excitement to the cruise market. While I am writing about the new Seven Seas Grandeur, we should not forget that the Seven Seas Splendor began her inaugural season in February of 2020 and very shortly thereafter the cruise industry was shut down. So essentially, she has been drifting around at sea for nearly two years waiting for passengers to experience her glory! So, let the excitement begin by booking on either of Regent Seven Seas new ships! Seven Seas Grandeur sets sail in November, 2023.

Regent Seven Seas will have a fleet of 6 ships and with the exception of one, Seven Seas Navigator, all ships are all suite, all balcony vessels! And even on the Seven Seas Navigator, 90% of her suites have balconies. Many times in advertising, clients see an incredible “lead in” price, but by the time they upgrade to a suite with a balcony it can be sticker shock for them. Not with Regent. The lead in price you see will be for a fabulous suite with ALL the inclusions you see listed.

Seven Seas Grandeur and Seven Seas Splendor have 375 magnificent suites, ranging from 215 square feet to 4400 square feet of luxury!

The Baltic area is always a popular itinerary and the two full days in St. Petersburg makes this one perfect. Other ports in- clude Berlin; Ronne; Klaipeda; Riga; Helsinki and Tallin. With shore excursions and airfare included, the value is exceptional on a European cruise—especially since the over the water flight is in business class.

Since the cruise is only 9 nights, a two week vacation will allow time in both Copenhagen and Stockholm. These cities are both worthy of at least a two night stay!

Age-Based Insurance

This is a repeat from the prior newsletters. They say you must see something numerous times for it to imprint permanently in your brain, so I will continue including it! Insurance cost is based on the age you are WHEN YOU PURCHASE THE POLICY—NOT WHEN YOU TRAVEL.

Age brackets are 00--3344;; 3355--5599;; 6600--6699;; 7700--7744;; 7755--7799;; 8800--8844;; 8855++.. So if you are currently 69 and planning a trip, get it booked and the insurance deposited before you “age up!” Please also know that if traveling in the distant future, we are able to deposit the insurance just like you deposit the cruise and increase as penalties warrant. If you do cancel prior to penalties, we can always get a voucher for the insurance amount, but we prefer for your benefit that the dollar amount of the voucher be as small as possible.

The Covid situation certainly caused havoc for most of the travel industry, but being on the west coast and Alaska being so close to us, it was incredibly saddening to think of those ports sitting empty and those quaint little towns that rely so heavily on tourism having no business. I am hoping that 2022 will be a banner year for Alaska! It is always one of our favorite cruise destinations, so I hope many of you will call and book a trip, helping with the revival of this magnificent area.

Silversea - The Best of Alaska

Viking Return to Cruising

I don’t like to think about this, but being in business for over 25 years, many of our clients are as old as we are and as my aunt said “old age is not for sissies.” This makes many of us look to smaller ships and close to home itineraries. I even told Doug that I am taking my travel agent’s advise and having luggage sent to the ship for our next overseas cruise so we don’t have to deal with it! That travel agent being me, I am trying to find more ways that allow our clients to continue traveling for as long as possible, and Alaska is one destination that to me is the epitome of easy travel. Another thing many of our clients are looking for is luxury. They want an all- inclusive experience on a smaller vessel which makes Silversea in Alaska the perfect combination.

No long overnight flights, wonderful, quaint small towns so no all day excursions, and you have long hours of daylight to enjoy the incredible scenery. We have probably been on close to 10 cruises to Alaska and stopped in every port possible. Every port has some- thing to offer, or nothing at all! In other words, there are extensive excursions including zip line, helicopter glacier tours, scenic float planes, whale watching and wild life tours, kayaking, nature walks, salmon bakes, bear watching, fishing, crabbing, White Pass rail tour, bald eagle rafting—the choices are endless. But, should you choose no excursions, a walk around these adorable little towns is a perfect way to spend the day. Whether sailing on the Silver Muse or the Silver Shadow, I can promise a wonderful week!

The hoops they had to go through were new to all of us, but together we got through it and they all had a ball. I can’t thank Viking enough for being on the forefront once again—making cruising safe and possible for our clients.

Viking River Cruises

We sometimes forget how much of the world you can see while on a river cruise. Europe; Russia; Ukraine; Asia; Egypt and the Missis- sippi are all destinations you can enjoy on a Viking River Cruise. Viking describes themselves as “The Thinking Person’s Cruise.” They are focused on culturally enriching itineraries. From their onboard enrichment to the onshore experiences, their goal is to provide meaningful experiences for you. There is no casino, no children under 18, no photography sales or art auctions, no smoking, no for- mal nights, no inside staterooms….that’s a lot of no’s, but all in a good way!

Now, look at was is included: one complimentary shore excursion in every port of call, free Wi-Fi, enrichment lectures and destination performances, beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, specialty coffees, teas and bottles water, port taxes and fees—in other words, the cruise fare includes everything you need and nothing you do not!

Seabourn Luxury Adventure Travel

Luxury adventure travel is on the rise. The smaller, more intimate ships in the Seabourn fleet helps meet this demand. The launch in April, 2022, of the Seabourn Venture—first of two new purpose-built expedition ships take luxury expedition cruising to a whole other level with the inclusion of two custom submarines for exploring underwater worlds. These six-person toys are capable of diving to 1,000 feet! We find that today’s luxury vacationers are placing an even greater emphasis on authentic travel experiences.

Seabourn has a strategic partnership with UNESCO offering unparalleled experiences into World Heritage sites as well as pre and post land-based extensions offering the chance to explore must-see sights that cannot be accessed on a single-day shore excursions. With the enhanced onboard experience, including new health and safety protocols, now is the perfect time to put a more adventure in your life.

Somehow the name “Venture” immediately brings adventure travel to the forefront of your mind. In looking at itineraries on Sea- bourn Venture, there are some absolutely magical destinations.

Longyearbyen to Tromso; Tromso to Reykjavik; Tromso to Oslo; Oslo to Reykjavik; round trip Reykjavik—each itinerary is amazing. Af- ter her summer in the Arctic, Seabourn Venture sails to Canada, down the east coast to the Caribbean followed by a Panama Canal cruise taking her to South America and Antarctica for the winter—which of course is their summer.

SEABOURN CRUISES

Antarctica - Add it to your Bucket List By Bonnie Crosby

Discover Seabourn’s Alaska June 1 - September 11, 2017

Go to www.call2cruise.com - type the Offer ID in the search bar to receive full itinerary details SEABOURN CRUISES Seabourn Quest—Antarctica

I admit I am a big fan of scenic cruising. Our recent trip through the Northwest Passage was a reminder of how much we enjoyed our trip to Antarctica. I know it is one of the higher priced cruises out there, but it is also one of the most amazing places you will ever visit.

It is impossible for words to do it justice, and it is one of the few times when pictures are not enough either. It is a place you need to experience to appreciate. There are beautiful long days full of sunlight and silence...other than when you are with a colony of 30- 40,000 penguins, then the noise can be deafening as the mothers and chicks search for each other!

Even if it means having to forgo a trip one year to afford Antarctica, do it! Put yourself on our monthly payment plan and book the trip far enough out that the cost is not as overwhelming. Having now been to the Arctic and Antarctic, we are pretty versed on the necessary clothing needed, so feel free to call and discuss the logistics of it all. The one thing I can promise is that it will be the trip of a lifetime and you will not regret one single penny you spend. Someone recently sent me some quotes for “A Good Old Age.” “#4: The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any com- fort then. Enjoy it together while you can.”

Size matters! When cruising, the ship needs to be the destination or fit the destination. If you are on a 6000 passenger ship, you are more than likely there for the ship experience. But there are some ports that would be over- whelmed by so many passengers going ashore. I think Alaska is a destination that fits the small ship experience where you can enjoy insights about the wild- life and destinations in lectures and relax on open uncrowded decks.

Seabourn even offers Adventures by Seabourn by zodiac and kayaks right from the ship!

Seabourn Alaska voyages are either 11, 12 or 14 nights allowing for more ports and more scenic cruising. On larger vessels, where you to want to see the Misty Fjords, it would be offered as an excursion. On Seabourn, Misty Fjords is just one of many days you will have the pleasure of sailing in breath- takingly beautiful waters through the inside passage.

Seabourn is not in Alaska every year, so take advantage of their presence in 2017 and call today to book your suite.

LUXURY is per- sonal. LUXURY is quality. LUXURY is exclusivity. LUXURY is a sense of space. LUXURY is unforgettable moments. LUXURY is not meas- ured in dollars it is measured in details.”
