Throughput is the number of packets a network can send through itself at any one time

Measured in bits over time (kbps, mbps)

Example: The number of cars that can fit on a road over a given time

Frame Loss is the number of packets that get lost over a given cable in a network.

Can be affected by internal factor such as network performance, and overall load, or external factors like interference or noise on the lines.

Often measured by percentage of frames lost

Example: The number (or percentage) of cars that don’t make it to their destination

Latency is the time it a takes a packet to get through a network Measured in time (often milliseconds)

Example: The speed a car can travel on a road at a given time

Jitter is the changes in packet speed over time, causing data bunching. Large amounts of jitter often cause frame loss.

Example: The difference between driving at a consistent speed on the freeway versus driving in stop-and-go traffic

TEST #1

FLEX24-10G Switch: 1G Bandwidth at 250ft

The Cisco Catalyst Switch: 1G Bandwidth at 250ft

The following is a summary of the test results using the Siama GENEM-X 10G Ethernet/IP Test Application. The performance comparison is between the FLEX 24-port managed switch over 250ft of CAT 5E cable vs. a Cisco Catalyst 2960-S switch over 250ft of CAT 5E cable. 1 gigabit symmetrical full duplex tested.

LATENCY TEST

Latency Results Summary

To ensure the highest quality of service, latency on both switches is minimal at maximum distance. The accepted industry standard for VoIP is 150 milliseconds. Both switches perform at 0.005-0.018milliseconds

(5-18 microseconds) of latency at the maximum frame size tested. This is more crucial for real time applications like voice calls or video conferencing.

JITTER TEST

Jitter Results Summary

Both Cisco and NVT Phybridge switches show minimum delay variance giving your traffic exceptional quality of service characteristics for real time applications to work at their very best.

LATENCY TEST

Latency Results Summary

To ensure the highest quality of service, latency on both switches is minimal at maximum distance. The accepted industry standard for VoIP is 150 milliseconds. Both switches perform at 0.012-0.129 milliseconds

(12-129 microseconds) of latency at the maximum frame size tested. This is more crucial for real time applications like voice calls or video conferencing.

Additional distance and connections will typically introduce an increase in latency. The FLEX24-10G is able to provide similar latency at 2,000ft, without additional connections.
