For the seventh consecutive year, ABP Port of
Southampton has been voted the ‘UK’s number
one departure port’ by Cruise Critic UK Editors’
Picks Awards.
In 2015, Southampton played host to three stand-out events: hosting the launch of the UK’s biggest-ever purpose-built cruise ship, P&O Cruises’ Britannia; Royal Caribbean’s second Quantum-class ship, Anthem of the Seas; and Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Escape, the first in the company’s new Breakaway Plus class.
It is Southampton’s strategic location on the UK’s south coast, excellent transport infrastructure and over 3,000 hotel beds in the city and surrounding area which ensure Southampton remains the premier venue for cruise lines to showcase their vessels to the UK and European markets.
In 2016 the port is expecting to handle a record 462 cruise ship calls from cruise line customers including Aida, Celebrity Cruises, Cunard, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, MSC Cruises, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Saga. To cater for the growing demand of the cruise passenger trade, the port owner and operator, ABP, continues to invest heavily with its customers in state-of-the-art shoreside and marine facilities.
WELCOME TO THE PORT OF
SOUTHAMPTON: ‘THE UK’S
NUMBER ONE DEPARTURE PORT’
Southampton provides four dedicated cruise terminals which cater for, and help to turn around, the largest cruise ships afloat smoothly and efficiently. It is the intention of Southampton’s port community that each of the 1.8 million guests passing through the port’s modern cruise terminals receive a superior service and are provided with an effortless and ‘hassle free’ experience.
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
4
By the end of 2016, all four of the port’s cruise terminals will
have seen multi-million pound refurbishments that enable
the port to cater for the world’s largest cruise vessels.
It is expected that passenger volume through Carnival UK alone will increase by 25% over the next two years.
Ocean Cruise Terminal underwent extensive refurbishments in 2015, including the expansion of the passenger screening area to enhance a customer’s experience and cater for the high-volume of passengers passing through the terminal.
This improvement has meant that a passenger’s waiting time is decreased, ensuring they have a quicker, stress-free start to their holiday.
The Mayfl ower Cruise Terminal reopened in April 2015, following a £6million investment. It now features an open plan interior with expanded security, check-in and passenger reception areas, providing passengers with an enhanced experience at the start and end of their holiday.
Following over £5million investment with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in the port’s Western Dock, the City Cruise Terminal has been refurbished to more than double its capacity over the last decade. The terminal has an expanded, remodelled entrance and security area, 50-desk check-in facility and enhanced baggage X-ray. It is now the most technologically-advanced in the UK, using Radio Frequency Identifi cation (RFID) luggage tracking which allows passengers to track their luggage as it moves from sidewalk to ship via the Royal iQ app.
The port’s QEII Cruise Terminal has been the subject of more than £5m worth of refurbishments, including the installation of a state-of-the-art ship-to-shore walkway, ensuring a greater range of cruise ships can utilise the terminal, improving passenger fl ow and experience.
The refurbishment, which is expected to be completed in winter 2016, is vital in ensuring the city retains its title as the UK’s top cruise port and continues to deliver the very best service.
