OLDCASTLE BUILDINGENVELOPE ACQUIRES C.R. LAURENCE CO.

U.S. HOME-BUILDER CONFIDENCE CLIMBS IN SEPTEMBER, INDUSTRY GROUP SAYS

U.S. HOUSING STARTS FALL 3% IN AUGUST

10 TRENDS DEFINING THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Window & Door

8/27/2015

Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope, a CRH Group company, has executed a binding agreement, subject to regulatory

approval, to acquire C.R. Laurence Co. Inc., according to an August 27 release. Headquartered in Los Angeles,

California, CRL will continue to be independently managed and operated as a subsidiary of OBE and will retain all

existing management structures and personnel. The company has eight manufacturing and engineering centers and

28 service centers across the U.S. and Canada, and an additional six operations in the United Kingdom, Denmark,

Germany, and Australia.

The Wall Street Journal

9/16/2015

A gauge of home-builder sentiment this month rose to its highest level since November 2005, a sign the U.S. housing

market is shaking off worries about the global economy and volatile financial markets.

An index of builder

confidence in the market for new single-family homes rose to a seasonally-adjusted level of 62 in September, the

National Association of Home Builders said Wednesday. A reading over 50 means most builders generally see

conditions as positive. The index stood at 61 in August and 60 in July. Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal

expected a reading of 61 in September.

The Wall Street Journal

Home-building in the U.S. slipped in August, with declines in both single-family and apartment-building construction.

U.S. housing starts fell 3% from a month earlier to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.126 million last month, the

Commerce Department said Thursday. Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had expected August housing

starts to fall 2.5% to 1.18 million. Several economists noted that higher levels of multifamily starts in June and July were

due to developers rushing to begin construction in New York before the expiration of an affordable housing tax credit,

and said August’s drop didn’t signal weakness in the housing market.

Construction Dive

8/26/2015

When experts discuss rapidly evolving industries, construction rarely makes its way into the conversation. In some ways,

this exclusion is warranted, as veteran construction managers and executives have often been resistant to major

advancements and new methods in their industry. Kevin Max, managing director of major projects advisory at

KPMG’s New York office, called construction "an industry that evolves and moves rather slowly" during an interview

with Construction Dive in May. Change, however, is becoming a more welcome concept for builders, as many are

embracing innovations and changing consumer tastes. At the same time, trends in the markets have a major impact

on construction professionals, who must constantly keep up with the strength of the industry as it struggles to get back

on its feet.

NEW STUDY FINDS GREEN CONSTRUCTION IS MAJOR U.S. ECONOMIC DRIVER

Concrete Construction

9/16/2015

The green building sector is outpacing overall construction growth in the U.S. and will account for more than 2.3 million

American jobs this year, according to a new U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) study from Booz Allen Hamilton

(NYSE:BAH). The 2015 Green Building Economic Impact Study, released today by USGBC and prepared by Booz Allen,

finds the green building industry contributes more than $134.3 billion in labor income to working Americans. The study

also found that green construction's growth rate is rapidly outpacing that of conventional construction and will

continue to rise and will account for 3.3 million jobs by 2018.
