Group Head of DR/BCM & Physical Security

Description: Responsible for development of global policies and standards, and matrix managing DR/BCM & Security personnel throughout the world with final project oversight of all DR/BCM & Security initiatives.

Structure: Reporting directly to Head of Group Risk. Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Successfully championed global projects to move to internal recovery model where feasible and more intelligent use of systems in risk reporting and crisis communications, including management of project budgets up to £5m. • Delivery of enhanced DR/BCM risk framework, resulting in greatly improved

BCM preparedness throughout relatively immature emerging markets regions. • Setting RSA’s Kidnap & Ransom Policy and overseeing implementation

throughout the Group, with key responsibility as Primary K&R Incident Manager and delivery of training for response units worldwide.

• Design and delivery of global BCM engagement survey designed to track staff perception of BCM efforts and target additional awareness activities where they are needed most.

• Provision of centre of excellence on DR/BCM and Physical Security, including regional training, oversight and assurance visits and hosting of annual Global BCM Conference.

• Played integral part in planning of the 2009 & 2011 Market Wide Exercise run by the regulatory authorities through membership of the MWE Steering Committee, and further championed RSA as an industry leader in BCM at key industry body meetings.

Associate Director (Relationship Management)

Description: Senior relationship management role with prime responsibility for achieving buy-in for BCM framework from historically hostile Front Office departments, and concurrent project management assignments.

Structure: Reporting directly to Global Head of BCM Technology and UK BCM. Shared use of admin resource.

Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Achieved full Front Office compliance as per target objectives through the building of robust relationships with key Front Office figures.

• Management of global BCM satisfaction trend tracking survey programme comparing perceived strengths and weaknesses of BCM team and framework quarter on quarter.

• Analysis of front to back alignment of departments for the purpose of ensuring completeness of process capture.

• Management of rolling weekly Work Area Recovery testing programme. May 06 – March 07: Euronext.liffe

Head of London BCP (Contract Position)

Description: Senior management role with responsibility for ensuring the resilience and recoverability of operations in London and Amsterdam

Structure: Reporting directly to Group Director of BCP & Security, with dotted reporting line into UK COO. One direct report at Risk Manager level.

Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Leading on full cycle BCP issues from BIA through to management of concurrent DR testing with other exchanges and clearing houses.

• Comprehensive re-design of BC planning tool (LDRPS) and championing the selection and rollout of automated cascade technology.

• Design and delivery of in house training exercises for staff at all levels of seniority.

• Pivotal advisory role on Crisis Management Team, directing meetings and managing activity streams, including management of Euronext participation in Tripartite Market-Wide Exercise.

Dec 05 – Apr 06: Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi

BCP/Risk Manager (Contract Position)

Description: Senior level project management of risk initiatives including Business Continuity, and the establishment and embedding of a comprehensive Risk Management framework and management tool.

Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Revised and enhanced procedure for secure access to bank vault. • Restructuring and chairing of Operational Risk oversight committee.

• Project management of merger-specific operational risk assessment, successfully predicting and halting an attempt to defraud the bank of the sum of €500,000. • Department-wide rollout of enhanced risk framework.

Oct 03 – Oct 05: Insight Investment (HBOS) BCP Manager

Description: Sole responsibility for the design and implementation of Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery/Crisis Management framework. Drive BCP issues and manage/train local BCP resources across the business. Influence executive management and Group Risk function to ensure that best practice is achieved.

Structure: Two direct reports at analyst level. Project budget of £2m. Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Designed and implemented enhanced BCP documentation and procedures. • Managed two complete cycles of DR testing, Business

Impact Analysis and desktop scenario training sessions for department heads and Crisis Management Team.

• Embedded local departmental ownership for plan maintenance.

• Introduced BCP induction process for all new joiners, and ran successful awareness campaign among existing staff.

• Championed and managed the implementation of support software for

maintaining plans and utilising web-based automated call cascade. Test results improved from 36% success rate to 91%.

• Management of relationship with DR site vendor and telephony supplier. Review of contract with site vendor identified a sum of £500,000 owing to Insight which was duly collected.

• Provided centre of expertise to Group Risk function and advised on proposed new initiatives.

• Liaised with FSA on BCP issues. Represented HBOS at industry-wide BCP benchmarking exercise.

Aug 1999 – Oct 03: Financial Services Authority (FSA)

Sep 02 – Oct 03: Associate, Prudential Standards Division

Description: Senior level policy setting and sourcebook creation in the specialist area of business continuity, outsourcing and operational risk insurance. Manage consultation process and advise colleagues and authorised firms of the correct application of policy. Represent the UK/FSA at international fora on related policy matters, and review and authorize

proposed offshoring arrangements. Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Authored final wording of BCP, outsourcing & insurance sections of SYSC 3A and drove through the various approving committees and public consultation process.

• Presented the policy at industry seminars, and designed FSA staff training programme for supervisors on policy application.

• Chaired FSA’s Operational Risk Departmental Expert Network, established to provide local OR expertise throughout the FSA.

• Represented the UK/FSA at CAD3 negotiations under the auspices of the EU Commission-appointed “Working Group on Other Risks”, comprising senior representatives from the regulatory bodies of all member states.

• Represented the FSA at industry level with regard to business continuity matters, and held a seat on the London Resilience Team’s Business Sub Committee, which reports directly to the Nick Raynsford MP, Minister with responsibility for UK Civil Resilience.

Dec 00 – Sep 02: Associate, Markets & Exchanges Division Description: Regulatory oversight of London Clearing House (LCH). Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Detailed review of LCH credit risk, liquidity risk, market risk and operational risk. OR/BCP review led to far reaching overhaul of BCP measures in place in line with my proposals.

• Review & approval of proposed new business lines for LCH, including the introduction of settlement netting.

• Relationship management with senior LCH figures, essential due to limited powers of sanction held by the FSA in respect of such Recognised Bodies. • Project management of application for UK recognised status by DTCC,

managed to completion within agreed timescale. Required extensive liaison with senior industry contacts in New York (DTCC) and Washington (SEC). Aug 99 - Dec 00: Associate, Authorisation Division

Description: Regulatory approval of applications from UK firms to establish European branches or cross-border passports under the Investment Services Directive, and implementation of approved applications.

Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Introduced revised streamlined process for approval and notification of applications, increasing productivity for this function by 40%.

• Identified major flaw in the post-approval maintenance of standing data by supervising departments, which in some cases had led to authorised firms facing undue sanctions in some member states. Introduced measures to eradicate flaw and managed the process of negotiation with member states holding incorrect data.

• Achieved highest score in FSA-wide anti-money laundering examination, leading to coverage and interview in FSA newsletter.

• Undertook registered representative exams for securities & derivatives.

Complementary work During my time at the FSA, I was approached to additionally work for the Securities Institute on a consultancy basis, composing and editing examination questions for industry qualifications in the area of Clearing & Settlement and money laundering.

Dec 97 – Aug 99: Business Link London City Partners Sales Analyst

Description: Production of MI for senior management detailing sales trends, and preparation of periodic Board reports.

Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Revised and enhanced procedure for the automation of statistic production utilising Excel spreadsheet formulas.

Nov 91 – Sep 95: UNISON (UIA Insurance) Underwriter

Description: Make risk assessments of non-standard applications for household insurance. Achievements/Responsibilities:

• Deputised for manager in his absence, supervising 11 direct reports.

• Applied subjective terms and premiums for non-standard policies, resulting in lower overall claims ratio.

• Eliminated inherited 6 month processing backlog within 1 month of joining.
