World Marriage Day, the final day of World Marriage Week, is this Sunday, February 14. The

mission statement, “World Marriage Day honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family –

the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice, and joy in daily married

life” should make us all stop and think about what is most important in our lives. St John Paul II

wrote that we cannot live without love. We are incomprehensible to ourselves without love (See

Redemptor Hominis #10). The important question is, “what is love?” St. Paul gives us a powerful

explanation, “Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love

does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.” (I Corinthians 13:4 – 5). The authentic

love St. Paul describes is a great challenge, but, as St. John Paul wrote, this love defines us as human

beings.

Marriage is about the love of a man and a woman who make a public commitment (the

wed-ding) to an exclusive union for life with each other and hope for the gift of new life. That new life

not only means children, but also the shared experience of the exclusive love of husband and wife.

As the World Marriage Day mission statement reminds us, we, as individuals and a culture, are

called to honor and celebrate “the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice, and joy in daily married

life.” Being founded in love, married life is both challenging and fulfilling. Married couples need our

support and encouragement. Young people need to be aware of our reverence and appreciation of

marriage.

The support of family, friends, and our culture are important for married couples but there is

another, greater support, the presence of God in the family. You who are married couples in our

modern world lead busy lives. With the demands of work and perhaps the care of children you have

a lot to do. Make time for each other and for God. Love requires presence, communication, and

forgiveness. Go to Mass on Sunday. Make the effort you would make for each other. Remember

that we attend Mass because the Eucharist is Jesus Christ. The celebration of Mass is a presence of

God in our midst like no other. If you have kids take them. I know that taking children to Mass is a

project on the order of the Normandy invasion, but they are worth it. Your kids need God in their

lives. You need God in your life. Go to confession. Let the kids see you go to confession. If you’ve

been married for more than 48 hours you know the importance of forgiveness as part of love. If you

haven’t been to confession in a while you may be nervous. I assure you it isn’t very painful. No one

needs emergency medical care after confession. Pray together. As busy as you are, take a few

minutes each day. Sit on the couch. Hold hands. Ask God for guidance and help. Look at each

oth-er and thank God for your marriage and the family you are.

God wants to be a part of your family and help you. With the help of God you are greater as

a family than you were as individuals. As you work to deepen your love and friendship for each

oth-er and enjoy the life togethoth-er that God has given you, know that you make an important

contribu-tion to a world that is in desperate need of love.

God bless,

Fr. Allen Lovell

Video Regarding Changes to the

Distribution of Ashes

The Camden Diocese has created a video explaining the changes to the distribution of ashes this year. The video can

Parking Reminder!

Being a good neighbor entails being respectful of a neighbor’s space. New Jersey Imaging

Network (NJIN) ,located directly across the

street from St. Rose church, is our neighbor. They have patients who are ill, and have trouble walking, who

need to utilize the limited number of parking spaces in their lot. Our parking there, even for a few minutes, can interfere with their patients ability to find a parking spot. Therefore, please, DO NOT park in their lot for School or CCD drop-off/

pick-up OR daily Mass parking, including ASH WEDNESDAY.

We are fortunate that they do allow our

parishioners to park in the lot on Saturday night and Sunday morning for Masses, but that is the only time that parking

there is permitted. Additional parking is available on the far side of the CVS lot.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Fr. Dave

This year, due to Covid, ashes will be imposed, as is done in many parts of the world, by sprinkling them onto the head of the penitent instead of placed directly on the forehead. The priest will bless the ashes as usual and then pronounce over the gathered assembly the formula “Repent, and believe in the Gospel” or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”. The ministers then cleanse/sanitize their hands and, wearing masks, impose ashes without saying anything. The faithful, wearing masks, will approach the priests, deacons or other ministers, who are likewise wearing masks, and bow slightly as the ashes are sprinkled over their head.

Readings for February 14

First Reading

A Reading from the Book of Leviticus

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,

“If someone has on his skin a scab or pustule or blotch

which appears to be the sore of leprosy,

he shall be brought to Aaron, the priest,

or to one of the priests among his descendants.

If the man is leprous and unclean,

the priest shall declare him unclean by reason of the sore on his head.

“The one who bears the sore of leprosy

shall keep his garments rent and his head bare,

and shall muffle his beard;

he shall cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean!’

As long as the sore is on him he shall declare himself unclean,

since he is in fact unclean.

He shall dwell apart, making his abode outside the camp.”

Responsorial Psalm

R. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

Blessed is he whose fault is taken away,

whose sin is covered.

Blessed the man to whom the LORD imputes not guilt,

in whose spirit there is no guile.

R. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you,

my guilt I covered not.

I said, “I confess my faults to the LORD,”

and you took away the guilt of my sin.

R. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you just;

exult, all you upright of heart.

(10)

Second Reading

A reading from

the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinithians

Brothers and sisters,

Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do,

do everything for the glory of God.

Avoid giving offense, whether to the Jews or Greeks or the church of God,

just as I try to please everyone in every way,

not seeking my own benefit but that of the many,

that they may be saved.

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

A great prophet has arisen in our midst,

God has visited his people.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

.

Glory to you, O Lord.

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said,

“If you wish, you can make me clean.”

Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand,

touched him, and said to him,

“I do will it. Be made clean.”

The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.

Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.

He said to him, “See that you tell no one anything,

but go, show yourself to the priest

and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed;

that will be proof for them.”

The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter.

He spread the report abroad

so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly.

He remained outside in deserted places,
