INTRODUCING YOUR 2013-2014 FNSA

EXECUTIVE BOARD!

Hello FNSA!!!

!

!

My name is Blake Lynch and you have selected me to be on your team as the

2013-2014 FNSA President. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to work

with you so we can make a positive impact on the individuals and families of

Florida. I am currently in my fourth semester of the Seminole State College/

University of Central Florida concurrent BSN program. My experiences in

nursing school have inspired me to be a full-time patient advocate. As future

nurses we have a responsibility to be the voices of our patients. The FNSA

organization is a platform for you and your local chapter to use for ideas and

ways to be involved in the community. This year my goal is to promote

collaboration between the local chapters within your respected regions. I

encourage your chapter to work with other chapters by hosting community

events and fundraisers together. This will not only promote collaboration but it

will make a larger impact on the community. The board and I are excited to be

representing each one of you. If you have any questions or

comments please reach out to us. We are here for you and

your chapter!

Hello- my name is Sarah Thomas, and I am serving as the FNSA Region 1 Director and Resolution Committee Chair for FNSA 2013-2014. This is my second year in the BSN program at the University of Central Florida, where I participate locally as our Community Health Director. I am truly excited to see the energy and continued growth in our local NSA chapters this year. Public health is a huge passion of mine! I love to hear from students who are passionate about their journey through nursing school and stay in tune with the needs of their community. My goal for this year representation back to the region; I want to increase Region 1 participation in state-wide projects, policy making, legislative process, representation at our conventions, and ultimately, ownership of their state board position next year. I am here to offer assistance in development of small chapters and encourage larger chapters to share their success with other chapters in the region. This will be a successful year-

let’s start with strong communication!"

Hello fellow nursing students!"

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Geraldine Martinez. I feel very privileged to be elected by our constituency as Region 3 Director and appointed by our FNSA President Blake as the

Nominations and Elections Chair. During our 59th Annual FNSA Convention in Daytona Beach

this past October I was honored to serve in the 2012-2013 FNSA board as Region 4 Director and Community Health Chair. I am currently a BSN nursing student at the University of Central Florida where I serve as Vice-President for our SNA school chapter in Orlando. I will be graduating in May

2014. Our 59th Annual Convention was awesome! The nursing students of our sunshine state

came together to learn and discuss important issues; four resolutions and updates to our bylaws were approved by our House of Delegates, and let’s not forget the election of our FNSA Board! Many chapters took home our prestigious awards, and several of us made new nursing friends!

We hope you loved convention as much as we did!"

I look forward to another wonderful year for FNSA!"

Greetings fellow nursing students! "

My name is Maura Gonzalez and I feel privileged to be serving you as Region 6 Director and

Breakthrough to Nursing (BTN) chair.  I am currently a BSN student at Florida Atlantic University

and in my second semester of nursing school.  Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to be able

to attend the NSNA's summer leadership conference.  That experience plus meeting so many

great students from around our state at this year's FNSA convention inspired me to run for this

position.  I look forward to working alongside you to improve communication between the chapters

in Region 6 and the Executive Board.  It is my goal to be a resource for you and hope that you feel you

can reach out to me with any questions, concerns or suggestions.  Also, if you would like to be involved with

the BTN committee, which works on recruitment, retention, and support of nursing students, I would love to

Hello fellow students,"

My name is Mike Bautista. I’m a senior at South University-Tampa and, prior deciding to pursue a second career in nursing, I completed degrees in Political Science & Business Administration and interned a half-a-year for a U.S. Representative, who until the start of 2013 was the sixth most senior member of both Houses of Congress; as well as, served in the U.S. Army deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently, I’ve recently became Region 4’s Director (representing St. Pete, Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco-Hernando and Sarasota County nursing programs (12 schools at present); as well as, have been recently appointed by the FNSA board to also be the Chair for the Legislative Committee. Ideally, it’s my desire to connect to as many nursing students in Region 4 as I can; first and foremost, to hear students ideas and concerns and second, to relay at how the FNSA might be able to facilitate some of those dreams into reality or, maybe help resolve issues that throw a nursing student’s life into turmoil. Region 4 FNSA chapter officers and/or, consultants, I’m more than willing to SKYPE to make face-to-face contact to address your inquiries and/or concerns. We have a superlative group of people on this 2013-14

FNSA board that will do their best to serve our fellow nursing students to the utmost of our collective abilities to make a better tomorrow for nursing and for nursing students."

My passion was confirmed when my youngest was born early and then diagnosed with a chronic disorder. After spending a month with him in the hospital The nurses and I formed a special bond. Not only did they take care of my little boy they took care of me. I want to have that special bond with my patients

Hello Florida Nursing Students!"

My name is John O’Leary and I am your 2013-2014 FNSA Liaison Coordinator.

It is my job to get nursing students involved in Florida and that’s just what I’m going to

do.  FNSA needs YOU to keep us informed of what is going on in nursing organizations

around Florida.  FNSA liaisons keep in contact with these organizations via email,

conference calls and webinars.  With some organizations the student nurse will have the

option of attending meetings and conventions.  This can provide excellent opportunities for

networking and resume building.  Student nurses are not limited to the nursing organizations that

FNSA is currently affiliated with.  FNSA encourages students to find a nursing organization that

sparks their interest and report back to us on it.  If you are interested please call, text, or email

me. The possibilities are limitless!"

My name is Alexis Bosque and I am privileged to be serving as the FNSA Image of Nursing Chair for this upcoming 2013-2014 year. I am currently pursuing my BSN at the University of Central Florida with plans to graduate in May of 2014. In my local SNA chapter, I am serving as Corresponding and Recording Secretary. My number one goal for this year is improving the public's perception of what nursing is all about. I want to facilitate this goal not only on a local level but on state and national levels as well. I can't do this without your help, though! Please send me information and pictures of the activities and good you're doing in your individual communities. Also, please contact me with any concerns you have about the portrayal of the nursing profession. These can be things you see on TV that concern you, misconceptions you've heard from the people around you, or many other issues. This board and I have some exciting ideas for the year ahead of us and would love to hear any and all suggestions you have! Thank you and I am looking forward to an amazing

year!"

A word from one of your FNSA consultants:!

I am so excited to see this wonderful new E-Board for 2013-2014. Everyone brings diverse strengths/gifts/ talents/and enthusiasm. I know it will be fantastic under Blake’s direction- and how exciting that next year, it

will be the 60th convention! We will all try to make sure everything is updated, correct, and included in the

handbook that you receive at the Preconvention Workshop and that the convention program is included so you can plan with your school on what you want to attend and when. Please know who your Region Director is and stay in close communication with him/her. We appreciate any feedback and we continually strive to be the best state with the largest participation of students. We can only do this with your passion for your organization. As we are rotating board meetings around the state, we look forward to seeing you

during at least one meeting. All of the board meetings are open to you. Have a wonderful year!"
