Name: Mic'Kayla Collins

Academic Program: Small Business and Entrepreneurship

Interesting fact about you? Along with being a Louisiana native, I am a licensed skin therapist, with a passion for community service.

Hobbies: Community Volunteering. Night time walks. Cooking with my family.

What do you like about your academic program? What I love is that I can use the skills I am learning to create a successful small business.

What do you like about NTC? I really love the culture of constantly working to give their students the best college experience. I can personally say that the entire administration works very hard to make this school the best choice for a wide range of people.

What student organizations are you involved with? I have been a part of the Campus Ambassador Program for 2 semesters.

Why is student engagement important? It’s a great place to learn leadership skills, network with my peers, and participate in student life events.

Plans after graduation: To create a small business that gives back to the community and empowers its employees and customers.

Name: Kara McLaughlin Hometown: Wausau

Academic Program: Nursing (Last year here, yay!)

Interesting fact: I got married on January 31st, 2015 and we have 2 bunnies, Clay Matthews and we recently adopted another named Snow.

Hobbies: When I am not studying or “jammin’ on my planner”, I enjoy reading and watching Netflix.

What do you like about your academic program? I love my instructors! They love what they do and want you to be successful. I’m so happy to be part of a program that is well respected within the state.

What do you like about NTC? What I enjoy most about NTC are the individuals I work with in Student Life. We have fun but they’re also a big part of my support system here at NTC.

Student Organizations: I am a Campus Ambassador and President of PTK for the upcoming academic year.

Why is student engagement important? It’s important to be involved in your school and community to feel connected and build relationships. You learn about yourself and your strengths, and learn to use them to

positively impact your community.

Plans after Graduation: After graduation I plan to finish my Bachelor of Science in Nursing while working as an RN. I would love to work as a labor and delivery nurse.

Academic Program: Welding Fabrication & Robotics

Interesting fact: I was the first female at H&S Manufacturing to take a weld test.

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, horseback riding, hunting, and drawing.

What do you like about your academic program? I really enjoy the hands on learning experience in my academic program; it gives me a real life feel and interaction with my chosen career.

What do you like about NTC? I like the relationships built between students, staff, and administers at NTC. I appreciate that Dr. Lori Weyers and administration are such huge advocates for students in all programs and care very much about each individual student's success.

Student Organizations: Campus Ambassador, SGA Representative for the Welding Club, Phi Theta Kappa member, and (Work Study) Transfer & Placement.

Why is student engagement important? It is important to be involved in your school both on and off campus. Being involved in clubs and events opens up many opportunities and builds strong connections throughout your community and chosen careers.

Plans after Graduation: In May of 2016, I will graduate with a two year associate degree in Welding Fabrication and Robotics; after graduation on plan on finding a job in the area that deals both in welding and laser work.

Name: Aleena Lepak

High School: Stratford High School Academic Program: Dental Hygiene

Interesting fact: I am an avid horseshoe pitcher. I have participated in the World Tournament every year since I was 10. In 2006 I was the Jr. Girls World Champion and I am currently ranked 11th in the world for the women’s division.

Hobbies: Reading, volleyball, horseshoes, bowling, and spending time with my family.

What do you like about your academic program? What I like most about my academic program is that in only 2 years I will be able to put a smile on someone’s face and make them feel proud of their smile. By working with patients right away in my first year of school I will be getting a hand’s on experience that will benefit me to be the best in my field.

What do you like about NTC? At NTC you get the same rigorous classes as a 4 year university but you build a better connection to your classmates and the staff. Here you have administration that will work with you to make sure you excel in all aspects of your education and your future career.

Why is student engagement important? This is important because it allows me to have an even deeper connection to the school, students, staff, and to showcase that this college outshines all others.

Plans after Graduation: After graduation I plan to find a job within this area as a Dental Hygienist and continue to pursue horseshoe pitching to one day be the women’s World Champion.

Interesting fact: I’m originally from Chicago, IL. Hobbies: Watching Netflix, eating, and singing

What do you like about your academic program? What I like about my academic program is that I am able to use things that I am naturally good at such as communicating with others, being creative, and persuasive. What do you like about NTC? What I like about NTC is that it lives up to its mission statement. Everything is centered on the success of the

students. Help is always there when you need it and the staff are pleasant and supportive.

Student Organizations: Campus Ambassador, I am also involved in student SGA being VP of Student Advocacy.

Why is student engagement important? It’s Important to be involved because it allows you to get to know your fellow students and be able to interact with them. Being involved can also help with the transition into college and help keep stress low by having fun.

Plans after Graduation: After graduation I plan to transfer to UW-Whitewater to pursue a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis on public relations.

Name: Sarah Kummer

High school: Medford Senior High Academic Program: Human services

Interesting fact: I have five brothers and two sisters, and I was the first baby born on New Year's.

Hobbies: Soccer, running, ice skating, etching glass, intramural sports. What do you like about your academic program? I like that I get to help others.

What do you like about NTC? I like that the classes are flexible, and it's affordable.

Student Organizations: DECA, BPA, and Campus ambassador.

Why is student engagement important? I think it's great to get involved wherever you go because it will help you in your future with furthering your education and future employers.

Plans after graduation: After I graduate from NTC, I plan on transferring to UW Oshkosh for my baccalaureate degree.

Academic Program: Marketing Associates Degree and Sales Representative Certificate.

Interesting Fact: I work at my parents’ furniture and flooring store that they have owned for 13 years in Antigo.

Hobbies: Beach and court volleyball, camping, kayaking, fishing, going places with my family, and playing with my dog.

What do you like about your academic program? I think one of the best things about my program are the instructors. I also like the fact that you can pick and choose how and when you take the classes. You only have a few classes that you have to take your first semester and from there you can take any of the classes you want during any of the semesters. What do you like about NTC? I think that one of the greatest things about NTC is the staff. They are very warm, welcoming and inviting when you are on campus. You could be a first day student or a last day student and you will always get the same enthusiasm from all of the staff. They all try to get to know the students and support all student organizations that are on campus.

What student organizations are you involved with? Collegiate DECA, Campus Ambassador, Phi Theta Kappa, and Intramural Sports. Why is that important? I think that the more you become involved in the campus, the more the college staff gets to know you. You will have greater networking opportunities with both staff and fellow students. You have the opportunity to try something new and put your skills to the test in various organizations. You will always come out ahead when you join these activities. These organizations are also excellent resume enhancers.

Plans after graduation? I plan on continuing working at my parents’ furniture and flooring store and eventually going on to work as a Sales Representative for a furniture company. I also am planning to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in the future.

Interesting fact: I have a great memory. I can meet someone once and remember them.

What do you like about your academic program? Classes and learning new skills.

What do you like about NTC? Meeting new people and that everyone helps you to succeed.

Why is student engagement important? To assist current and new students with questions and facilitate tours. This role is important to provide a great first impression of the college. I personally got involved to meet people. Getting involved makes you want to finish college and succeed in your future.

High school: Merrill High School Academic Program: Nursing

Interesting fact: An interesting fact about me is that I started attending college at NTC when I was 16 years old.

Hobbies: I like to spend time outside; hunting, fishing and hanging out on the water.

What do you like about your academic program? At NTC the nursing program teaches you accurately how to care for others in physical and emotional need. I like that you are able to learn and have first-hand experience with some of the finest equipment and instructors helping you every step of the way. I want all of my future patients to feel comfortable at all times and feel like they have a nurse that knows what they are doing while working with them; I can learn and demonstrate both of those skills at NTC.

What do you like about NTC? I love that NTC always has your back. NTC always offers you the help you need. At NTC you should never feel alone or like you do not have someone to talk to if you are in any type of need.

Why is student engagement important? I am a Campus Ambassador. To me being a campus ambassador is a privilege to be able to represent my school and always be there to help other students. The program is important and nothing but help to the college and its students.

Plans after graduation: After graduating with my associate's degree at NTC I plan to go on to get my bachelors and master's degree in nursing. My overall goal is to graduate with my master's degree as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I want any one I work with throughout my career to feel at peace through their body, mind and spirit.

High school: Faith Christian Academy

Academic Program: IT - Computer Support Specialist

Interesting fact: I received 7 stitches on my left hand ring finger for getting it smashed by a back hoe a few summers ago.

Hobbies: Guitar, remote control cars and computers

What do you like about your academic program? It is a very solid program and teaches you everything you need to know to be able to go into IT, and teaches it very well.

What do you like about NTC? I like the faculty. They are always there ready to help when you have a question.

Student Organizations: Campus Ambassador Program, Computer Club and Phi Theta Kappa.

Why is student engagement important? I believe that the Campus Ambassador Program is important because it helps me with people skills as well as leadership skills that I can later use in my career. The

Computer Club allows me to stay connected with what's going on in my area of study.

Plans after graduation: I plan on getting a good job, and maybe later on getting a Bachelor's or Master's in either Computer Science or something further in IT.

High school: Wittenberg-Birnamwood

Academic Program: Dairy Science, Agri-Business, Office Assistant Interesting fact: I played the violin for 7 years.

Hobbies: I love being at my family farm. I also like to craft and listen to music.

What do you like about your academic program? I love all of the hands-on experience you get at the Agriculture Center of Excellence. We become such a tight knit community at the farm, too. Everyone there is there to help you succeed.

What do you like about NTC? I like the atmosphere here and how kind and helpful everyone is. I also like how the flexibility offered and the variety of ways you can take courses.

Student Organizations: I am part of the Campus Ambassador Program and PAS (Postsecondary Agricultural Students).

Why is student engagement important Students clubs and

organizations are important because they help you get to know your fellow students and you get to participate in many activities you would not normally be a part of.

Plans after graduation: I plan on starting a career as a seed dealer and possibly return to NTC shortly thereafter to pursue another degree.

Name: Chris Passow

High school: Wausau East High school Academic Program: Fire Medic

Interesting fact: I cut my finger tip off when I was 15.

Hobbies: I like to spend my free time hunting or fishing, depending on the season.

What do you like about your academic program? I like the Fire Medic program because it prepares me to help people that are going through tough times in their life.

What do you like about NTC? I like that all of the NTC instructors are willing to go the extra mile just to see you succeed. In my program all of my instructors currently work on a department. They know what area departments are looking for, and are more able to prepare you more effectively.

Why is student engagement important I am involved with the Campus Ambassador program at NTC. I joined because I was always an introvert and I wanted an opportunity to enhance my interpersonal skills.

Plans after graduation: Upon graduation I plan to work as a Paramedic/ Firefighter on an area fire department. After a few years I am planning on returning to NTC to complete the Critical Care Paramedic certificate. This will provide me with the necessary skills to work on as a Flight Paramedic.

Academic Program: Human Services

Interesting fact: I am a 2nd degree brown belt in Karate Hobbies: Listen to music, drawing, play video games and read. What do you like about your academic program? I like how flexible it is, how personable the classes are and how the instructors go out of their way to help you learn at your own pace.

What do you like about NTC? I like how affordable it is and all the opportunities available for students regardless of their nationality, international students sometimes don't have the same financial aid opportunities as our fellow American students, so the fact that this college offers scholarships to everyone regardless of their place of birth, it's amazing.

Why is student engagement important I believe this program is important because it is a good way to engage students with the college life, it allows us to make connections with other people, find new friends, it also allows us to acquire soft skills that we will be using throughout our lives. We become more sociable, more professional, it is also important for the college to have Campus Ambassadors, because what better way to attract potential students than with actual students from this college!

Plans after graduation: Find work in my field, hopefully in Wisconsin but not restricted to this area, I want to work with people especially in crisis situations, victims of domestic and sexual assault.
