eLearning Programs

eLearning Programs is a Department of Education curriculum service which offers schools a variety of online K-10 courses and programs which can complement, augment or extend local provision and provide students with access to educational experiences and opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable. It includes options for students identified as highly able or gifted (CELO Online).

The courses students undertake are usually delivered by an elearning delivery teacher with the support and supervision of the students’ own school.

eLearning programs vary in length and nature; for example some are full year subjects while others are term by term opportunities.

Who can access online courses?

Students in any Department school can be enrolled in eLearning programs. Students from Prep to Year 10 can access eLearning courses and programs.

How to access information about courses

and projects

Information about eLearning Programs is available from:

 the overview of courses in this guide

[email protected]

Supporting students working online

Student success in online courses is strongly correlated with school and / or home-based support, in addition to the support provided by the online teacher. Usually each student or group of students in a program / course needs a local support person who may be a teacher, teacher aide, learning advisor, or supportive adult at school or home. This role is critical to ensure that students fully engage with their program and that comprehensive assessment information, if required, is included in their school report. Quality local support will assist students to:

 access the online program regularly, work within set timeframes and regularly submit required learning tasks and assignments to agreed expectations

 communicate regularly with their online teacher through the tools provided

 behave appropriately when using ICT, including the Internet, in accordance with the Acceptable Use Agreement signed in their school.

Good communication between the support person, online teacher and the classroom teacher is important to enable strong links to the student’s classroom program.

What does it cost?

(Department of Education schools)

Access to programs and courses is on a subsidised basis (subject to criteria) or cost-recovery basis. Please note that:

 courses and programs are offered on the basis of demand and available resourcing

 proposed enrolments are required (as much as possible) to be entered via the website before the end of the school year

 course viability is generally dependent on 25 enrolments

 all courses have upper limits of participant numbers and students may be added to a waiting list if courses are full
