The fact that the Linhof Master Technika has achieved a certain cult status has several good reasons: This equipment is a noble tool and a real status symbol for the ambitious photographer. Superb mechanical precision and an immaculate finish emphasize the prominent role this camera offers with the 4x5 inch format. Thanks to its drop-bed technique the Technika can completely be closed, easily carried and set up

on location. The Technika is a large format camera system for virtually all fields of professional photography. From studio table tops, portraiture, indoor shooting to travel, landscape, architectural and industrial subjects.

The Technika is a view camera offering all possibilities of image composing with sophisticated mechanical adjustment facilities for perspective corrections and depth-of-field control with

groundglass observation. The system is available as Master Technika 3000 and as Master Technika classic permitting even hand-held photography. Operating and image composing are unique: The Master Technika classic can be equipped with a Multi-Focus Optical Viewfinder for exact control of the image composition complemented by a lens-coupled multi-focus coinci-dence type range finder system

for precise focus control without groundglass. Similar to 35 mm and medium format view finder camera systems the Technika permits fle-xible handling but with the added advantage of large format quality standards, i.e. perfect transitions and extremely high resolution power. Master Technika cameras offer a triple extension. This feature allows the use of tele lenses up to 400 mm focal length or close-up photography without the

need of additional accessories. The Linhof Master Technika is a camera system for the discrimina-ting individualist creadiscrimina-ting breath-taking images far away from mass production. Even the change from sheet or rollfilm to digital imaging is no problem thanks to the easy adaptation of high efficiency digital backs.

The Linhof Technika is indeed something special in the world of camera products.

The Linhof Master Technika – perfectly protected, completely closed.

For those photographers preferring groundglass control and wide-angle efficiency on location the Master Technika 3000 is the ideal large format camera. Modern extreme wide-angle lenses can be used thanks to an integrated wide-angle focusing track inside the housing that will greatly enhance the location EASY FOCUSING Turning knob for easy outside moving of the built-in wide angle focusing track.

ADDITIONAL

ADJUSTMENT FACILITY The lifted flap on the top of the camera housing allows for convenient lateral adjustments. Here with lens Super-Symmar XL 4,5/80 mounted on recessed lensboard 001047.

photographer’s work, for exam-ple, in the field of architectural photography.

The built-in wide angle focusing track can comfortably be used by a turning knob which is placed at the outer right side of the camera body.

For extremely short focal lengths 38, 47 and 58 mm one infinity stop is provided for all 3 focal NO VIGNETTING

The baseboard can now further be dropped for avoiding vignetting.

lengths thanks to individual lensboard adjustments. When using lenses from 72 mm to 400 mm the camera front standard is again positioned on the main focusing track as usual. Focusing control remains via groundglass observation. The Master Technika Classic and the Master Technika 3000 offer the same mechanical

possibilities for intuitive hand-ling. It is self understood that the Master Technika 3000 can be equipped with infinity stops on the main focusing track for lenses starting with 72 mm focal length for fast and error-free findings of the required bellows extension and the positioning of lenses.

MASTER DIGITAL.Linhof is now offering a Rapid Change Adapter Slide for all Master Technika bodies. Before using the slide the 4x5 revolving back has to be removed.

The Rapid Change Adapter Slide permits the quick change of groundglass focusing to taking position of the digital back.

The Rapid Change Adapter Slide increases the use of the Master Technika for digital imaging. The main digital features are now applicable with the Master Technika cameras. For example, adapter plates for different camera fittings (Hasselblad V, H, Mamiya 645 AF / AFD, Contax 645) can now be used. In conjunction with the Rapid Change Adapter Slide, even stitching is possible. The complete slide can be shifted up and down 15 mm each.

BELLOWS EXTENSION.The pre-cision-machined triple extension dropbed allows a maximum bellows draw of 430 mm to use standard view camera lenses up to 400 mm. Even with the full bellows extension, optimum stability is maintained. MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY. The variable bellows extension is particularly valuable in close-up and macro work where superb sharpness can be obtained with modern lens systems designed especially for this type of work. The macro versions of standard view camera lenses, optimized for reproduction ratios from 1:3 to 3:1, can be used without accessories.

COMPACT.With its ultra-compact housing measuring only 18x18x11 cm / 7x7x4.5 in. the Master Technikas can easily be carried along and set up on

location. Its rugged, yet light weight die cast aluminium body perfectly protects all vital parts, including lens, bellows, ground-glass and the sophisticated adjustment mechanisms during transport and under adverse climatic conditions.

L I N H O F M A S T E R T E C H N I K A S Y S T E M

FAST.For facilitating the use of more infinity stops we have modified and improved the upper track of the Master Technika. New: additional num-bered notches at the upper track. Combined with the colored release levers operation has been facilitated. The definition of the required bellows extension and the positioning of the correspon-ding lens are now error-free and faster. The enormous stability of the dropbed for use of long tele lenses is even better utilized. VERSATILE.The patented swing

back is equipped with a revolving groundglass frame that instantly adjusts to horizontal or vertical formats simply by rotating it to the desired position.

MOBILE.The Master Technika stands for mobility in large format work. It goes anywhere and successfully completes assignments which simply would not permit the use of monorail systems on location. An ideal tool for art and concept photography.

MORE COMFORT.The Alu-case (022457) for the Linhof Master Technika classic and 3000 protects the valuable Technika equipment at outdoor activity and also provides ideal features as a depository. The case provides space for Master Technika, lenses, Focusing Magnifier, Optical Viewfinder, exposure meter, Right Angle Reflex Attachment, Rollex Rollfilm Backs, Cutfilm Holders, film material. Dimensions: 44x44x18 cm Weight: 5 kg, Content: up to 20 kg

Photography: Florian Holzherr

THE INTERNATIONAL BACK accepts a wide selection of accessories offering convenient focus control and, of course, the full range of rollfilm and cutfilm holders for all professional film formats as well as the use of the Digi Adapter for digital imaging. Rollfilm economy with the classic all-metal Super Rollex backs, handling convenience with the slide-in Rapid Rollex, optimum detail rendition with cutfilm holders.

CENTER SWINGS AND TILTS. Vertical and horizontal center axis rotation of the front stan-dard minimizes any focus chan-ge and greatly facilitates ground-glass composition as there is vir-tually no image shift. Lens rise and lens tilt can be combined as shown, provided a lens with a sufficiently large image circle is being used.

EXTREME ADJUSTMENTS. The combination of direct and indirect adjustments will result in extreme camera displacements normally asso-ciated with monorail systems only. The swing back adjust-ment (20° in all directions) together with the dropbed displacement and lens tilt of 30° each in many cases exceed the covering power of the lenses used.

SWING BACK.The exclusive swing back allows omnidirec-tional displacements of up to 20° for deliberate perspective corrections or depth-of-field adjustments. Swing back and groundglass frame are secure-ly held in position by four locking knobs which also allow parallel orientation rela-tive to the camera body to

gain extra bellows extension. PRECISION MOVEMENTS.

Quality engineering for maxi-mum durability is evident in every design detail, like the rack-and-pinion system used for the rising front actuated by a reversible lift lever. The triple extension drop bed, precision machined to closest tolerances for absolutely playfree operati-on, is a masterpiece of mecha-nical engineering and another outstanding example of Linhof’s manufacturing know-how.

SCHEIMPFLUG RULE.Swings and tilts can be used to influ-ence perspective and increase depth-of-field in accordance with the subject’s require-ments. Picture shows rotation of front standard and film back around the vertical axis to gain extended depth-of-field which even the smallest aper-tures cannot provide.

PARALLEL SHIFTS.The generous direct lens rise can be further in-creased using indirect camera displacements, tilting the camera upwards and restoring vertical orientation of lens and film plane using swing back and lens tilt adjustments. The rising front, required to eliminate converging lines, serves as a lens drop when the camera is turned upside down using the additional tripod socket located on top of the camera housing.
