Go Cardinals!

Varsity Girls Varsity Girls

Varsity Boys

It’s almost softball season!

We are very pleased to announce the return of Coach Odell as our Varsity Softball Coach this season. If you are interested in playing softball for Bloomingdale High School this season, please sign up in the athletic office. Contact Coach Odell with any questions.

The Varsity Competitive Cheer team traveled to Gull Lake on Saturday to compete in the Gull Lake Invitational.

The team competed in three rounds of competition and finished second in their

division. The team travels to Gobles on Thursday for their first league competition of the season.

On Tuesday, the Varsity Girls Basketball team hosted Hartford in their first home game of the season. This was a highly anticipated matchup between two undefeated teams, which saw several lead changes and was closely contested.

Bloomingdale played hard, but ultimately fell to Hartford 31-37. A rematch is scheduled for February 22 at Hartford in a game which will likely decide the conference championship. On Friday, the girls host Marcellus at 6pm.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team traveled to Hartford Tuesday night for a Southwest 10 Conference matchup. The boys played hard, but fell to Hartford 54-72. Bloomingdale will host Marcellus at home on Friday at 7:30 pm.

The Varsity Wrestling team traveled to Mendon on Saturday to compete in a team tournament.

Everyone wrestled well, and continued to improve. Stephos Georgiou went undefeated on the day in the 285 lb weight

class and finished with a 4-0 record. On Wednesday the team travels to Decatur for a Conference meet. On Saturday, Bloomingdale will host a round robin team meet at 9am.

Healy

Hardware & Lumber

Healy Hardware has been around since 1971 and it looks like it will continue for many more. Les and Dot Healy began the store over 50 years ago. In 1999 Gary and Roxanne bought the store from his parents. Since that time (and before), Gary has helped many of you find the right product and has given you the knowledge to use it. His greatest joy is helping people solve hardware problems. Roxanne was behind the scenes working the numbers. And as of January 1, 2022, the new owners, Greg, and Kelly Tuffelmire took over. Greg’s grandfather Carl started Allegan True Value in 1952 and Greg and Kelly took the reins from his parents Al and Loranna in 2009. With True Value’s in Allegan, Otsego, Kalamazoo and now Gobles Greg and Kelly look forward to providing even more products and services to the Gobles community. The name, Healy True Value, will stay the same, Gary will still be helping everyone he can, and the same great staff will be here to assist you. Healy’s will be here serving the community so stop in, grab a cookie and a hot cup of coffee. We are and will continue to be family.

269.434.6227 Happy New Year! May 2022 be the year that we all have kindness and joy in our hearts. As I

prepared for a semi-normal Christmas, I noticed while Christmas shopping that many people still seem hesitant to reach out to others. I know that shopping can be stressful and completing lists in preparation for family celebrations can be exhausting. It seems like there is always that last minute item we still need to find, or a long line to wait in to finish our trip. It is easy to get lost in our thoughts and block out what is going on around us. I totally get it. If I am in a store without my children, I’m seriously like a kid in Disney World. I want to look at everything and enjoy the peace. I try to remind myself not to become so lost in my own thoughts that I can’t recognize someone who could use a smile. I know that I appreciate when out of the blue someone notices me, and offers a kind word or deed.

Recently I stopped at Target. I purposely did not get a cart, because I knew I would want to fill it up. I had a gallon of milk in my hands when I noticed the Keurig I had been eyeing for months was marked way down. I mean, come on, that is a no brainer! I wanted a pink one, they had one left, and it was on sale! So now I have a bulky box, a gallon of milk and of course, I needed a Diet Dr. Pepper. My hands were full. I’m cursing myself for thinking that a cart was a bad idea, and there were only 3 lanes open. Then I notice the milk is leaking out onto my coat sleeve. I was not getting back out of line, there were more people behind me than in front of me! The man in front of me happens to look back. He says, “You look like you need to go in front of me, you are not going to have any milk left!” I laughed, told him I was silly to think I didn’t need a cart in Target. He insisted that I go ahead of him, and told me to have a great day.

That is what we need more of. Simple. Kind. Aware. Life can be hard sometimes. It feels really great to have someone notice us and want to help; to seriously just give us a few minutes of their time to make small talk or offer a hand. I think there would be less arguing and bickering if we looked for ways to share the love in our hearts with someone else, especially a stranger.

Shortly after Christmas I was running a few errands. I happen to love McDonald’s iced coffee. I was alone in the car so I knew I wouldn’t get suckered into buying a 20 piece nugget box or something crazy. I could just zip in and get a coffee. I was trying to turn into the parking lot when this big work van came in like his pants were on fire. He cut me off, raced to get in front of me, and gave me a dirty look like I was in his way. Since my order was just coffee, I got in front of him to pay. I was kind of agitated because seriously, being in a work van, it’s a bad look to drive like Mario in a parking lot. I got up to the window and paid. The woman taking money was in a friendly mood. I told her that I wanted to pay for the man’s meal behind me. That he seemed to either be starving to death or in a really bad mood. I told her that he needs some Jesus and that I hope he has a better day. I seriously was not trying to be a stinker about the whole thing, trying to make him feel bad for being inconsiderate. I just decided that I am in control of how I feel. I don’t have to allow someone else’s bad mood to sour my kindness and joy. He might have thought I was crazy for paying, or maybe just plain crazy. That’s okay. If flipping a moment of irritation into one of giving makes me a crazy person, I will be the best crazy person ever!

2022 is a new beginning. It is high time we push away from the negative around us, blasting us from every angle. If we want to live in a better, safer and happier place we all have to work at it.

We can’t sit around and wait for someone else to be a nice person. It works when we all try harder to be kind. My daughter has been fighting with her friend who she was once very close to. They are snappy at each other over silly things and it’s upsetting to both of them. I asked my daughter why she always responds to mean comments with more mean comments. In her 11 year old logic she explained that “well she did it to me first!” I think there are so many people, older than 11, that are acting that way right now as well. We will never change negative with more negative. We will make a much larger impact on the world by answering negatives with kindness and understanding. You will feel better about yourself and teach others a valuable lesson. Let the love in you find the people who really need it. The world will truly be a better place for all of us.

Pushing away from the negative in 2022.

TIGERS H H

Gobles 2022 Winter Sports

Middle School Wrestling

From Coach Eric Carlin: Dec. 2, 2022

From Coach Eric Carlin: Jan. 11, 2022

The Tigers Varsity Wrestlers have increased their numbers to nine and are ready to roll into the 2021-22 season. Although they are not an experienced team, Coach Carlin has been highly impressed with their willingness to take on the team’s “Compete”

philosophy. Returning to the mat for the Tigers are Senior Chris Ruiz, Sophomores Josh Thomas and Gavin Hopper. Hopper was also a 2020-21 State Qualifier. After an impressive Middle School career, Freshman, Gabe Reynoso, shows promise as an X-Factor for this young team.

Please congratulate AJ Salinas, Conner Morris, Finn Carlin, and Braelyn Woodard for earning recognition as Team Captains for the 2022 season. Also, Brody Marshall has earned Captain of the Week Honors for Week 1 of the Tigers Season.

AJ was a recipient of the 2021 MS Wrestling Leadership award and has continued to stand out as a leader in the 2022 preseason. Conner

is a newcomer to the Tigers MS wrestling team, but he is making his mark of dependability and hard work known to his teammates. Finn is now a 2-year captain who leads with his technical knowledge and contagious love of the sport. Braelyn is a 1st-year wrestler who possesses a sound understanding of what it takes to be successful on this Tigers team and has already gained the respect of the entire team.

Brody is being recognized as the week one captain because there is no one else who works as hard as Brody day in and day out. Coaches Carlin and Hilman are very pleased with the desire to compete that each of these Tigers has shown!

Tigers played well defensively and did a better job limiting our turnovers. We’ll need to find a way to generate more offense moving forward, but we’re growing each week.
