FROM THE CROW’S NEST

GAME 2 RECAP: The Marauders are one win away from the Low-A Southeast League title after Wednesday’s 6-1 win at LECOM Park. Dariel Lopez delivered a 1st-inning sacrifice fly, and after Benjamin Cowles tied the score, 1-1, for Tampa in the 2nd, Bradenton rallied back ahead for three runs in the home half, rapping out four straight hits (Head, Herman, Or- donez, Escotto) against Blane Abeyta. Abrahan Gutierrez added a solo homer in the 3rd (his first home run since July 20 with Clearwater, playing at Tampa) and Maikol Escotto delivered an RBI-groundout. Luis Ortiz struck out 9 batters over 6 strong innings for the Marauders, combining with relivers Nick Garcia and Oliver Mateo for 16 strikeouts in the game. Re- lievers Wellington Diaz, Harold Cortijo, Danny Watson, and Carson Coleman provided a bright spot for Tampa, combining for 5.2 scoreless innings behind Abeyta.

THE BIG PICTURE: The Marauders are in the postseason for the fifth time in franchise history, and the first time since 2016. That 2016 postseason featured Bradenton’s first-ever trip to the Florida State League Championship Series, which the Marauders won over Tampa, 3 games to 1. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa is hosting its first postseason games since 2017, when the Tampa Yankees fell to eventual league co-champion Dunedin in the semifinals, 2 games to 1.

ENDY’S GAME: Endy Rodriguez finished the regular season as one of the Low-A Southeast’s leading hitters. The 21-year -old from Santiago, Dominican Republic finished the season leading the league with a .294 AVG and 46 extra-base hits and ranked second in the league with 111 hits and 73 RBI, a .512 SLG, .892 OPS, and third with a .380 OBP. Since the begin- ning of July (56 games), Rodriguez is batting .326 with a .966 OPS and 45 RBI. He ended the regular season hitting safely in 20 of his last 23 games, batting .362 during that stretch. He’s the first Marauder to lead the league in batting average since Josh Bell did so for the 2014 Marauders (.335 AVG).

THE OPPONENT: Tampa finished the regular season with the league’s best record at 73-43 and finished with a +220 run differential, the third-best mark in all of Minor League Baseball. Their 629 walks as a team ranked second in all of MiLB (Bradenton ranked third with 607), and Tampa’s .380 team OBP was the highest among all full-season MiLB teams, while their .834 OPS was third among full-season clubs.

HOW OFFENSIVE: The Tarpons and Marauders ranked first and second in the league, respectively, in each of the following offensive categories: AVG (.260 and .244), runs (766 and 675), home runs (149 and 109), walks (629 and 607), OBP (.380 and .357), and SLG (454 and .393). The last head-to-head series, August 31-September 5, saw the Marauders and Tarpons hit a combined 31 home runs (Tampa 19, Bradenton 12), including 12 in the series opener (6 per team).

TOP PROSPECTS: Per midseason prospect ranking updates, the Marauders roster currently includes four prospects in MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 ranking for the Pirates organization: Hudson Head (#12), Jared Jones (#15), Endy Rodriguez (#19), and Maikol Escotto (#20). Head and Rodriguez came from the Padres and Mets, respectively, in the Joe Musgrove trade in January, while Escotto was one of four prospects obtained from the Yankees in the Jameson Taillon trade.

MISCELLANEOUS: Bradenton pitchers’ 1,288 strikeouts in the regular season were eighth-most in all of MiLB (San Jose leads with 1,439)… The Marauders posted the Low-A Southeast’s second-best run differential at +92 (Tampa’s +220 was third-best in all of MiLB)… Seven Marauders players finished within the league’s top 10 in home runs: Hudson Head and Endy Rodriguez (15 HR, T-3rd), Jase Bowen (14 HR, T-4th), Jack Herman (13 HR, 5th), Dariel Lopez (10 HR, T-8th), Alexander Mojica (9 HR, T-9th), and Sammy Siani (8 HR, T-10th).
