LUTHERAN HOUR “Widow’s Mite” with speaker Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler. Why did Jesus commend a poor widow who gave all her money to a corrupt institution that oppressed widows? Dr. Michael Zeigler takes a deeper look. (Mark 12:13-34) Listen to “The Lutheran Hour” locally on Sunday at 11:20 a.m. on KHBT 97.7 FM and at 6:00 p.m. on KJYL 100.7 FM or on the web at www.lutheranhour.org/AFN/listen.htm. It is also on XM’s Family Talk Radio Sundays at 1:00 p.m. (EST). There is no sponsor for today’s broadcast. Please help support the Lutheran Hour.

Baptized into the Christian faith during this morning’s worship service is XAVIER MICHAEL ALLEN STEIN, the son of Derek and Tammy (Rose) Stein. Xavier was born on December 15, 2020 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Serving as sponsors are Cassandra Sweeney and Grace Sweeney. May our gracious Lord grant Xavier a long life filled with His richest blessings.

EASTER LILIES are the symbol of new life and bring beauty to the Sanctuary as we celebrate our Lord’s resurrection. They proclaim and trumpet the news “HE IS RISEN!” “HE IS RISEN INDEED!” The Evangelism Board requests you consider giving an Easter Lily in memory of or in honor of someone or occasion. The cost is $8 for one plant. Order form is on the back page of the March Newsletter. Please put the form in the box in the church office by today, March 14 if you would like to purchase any. Thank you.

Looking for Help with the Media at Zion: We are looking for help with running some of the media at Zion. For funerals, or for the regular worship services we would like to have more people trained in how to operate the sound system of the church. Also, we are looking for a bit of help to operate the camera that provides the Facebook Live streaming. Both take a little bit of training which we are glad to provide. Please contact Pastor Aaron if you are interested. Thanks! 515-890-7558 or [email protected]. DCE Recommendations: The Elders on the evening of February 22 met with IDW youth representative Rhonda Mohr to discuss the process of calling a Director of Christian Education (DCE) at Zion. During the meeting it was discussed that it might be beneficial to seek recommendations from the congregation for a DCE. In general, the Call Committee is looking, at this point, for a trained LCMS youth worker with over 3 years of experience. If you know someone who fits this bill, please send the name to the church email, [email protected].

Communion Change – Now 1st and 3rd Sundays: For a bit over a month, we have been asking the congregation if there would be any reason as to why Zion would not be able to switch from communion on 1st and 4th Sundays to the 1st and 3rd Sundays. At this point, to the Elders and to the Pastors, nobody has come forward revealing a conflict. As such, the Elders voted to change the communion Sundays at Zion to the 1st and the 3rd Sundays of the month beginning in March.

2021 Flower and KHBT Lutheran Hour Charts are posted in the Narthex to the south of the east bulletin board above the drinking fountain. If you would like to place flowers in the front of the Sanctuary on the side stones or sponsor a Lutheran Hour Broadcast you may do so by signing up on one of the charts. Please take time and consider one or both of these opportunities to give thanks and praise to our gracious Lord. Please fill in 2021. Thank you. If you have an ESV self-study Bible, you know it has many pages that explain more fully a topic discussed in that part of the Bible. Pastor Hansen has an "index" of all those topics, and the page on which you can find them. So, if you have a question about that topic, you can find answers faster.

Mary Grebe is collecting men’s athletic shoes of all sizes for the homeless. If anyone has men’s athletic shoes they don’t need, please put them in a sack and set them under Mary’s church mailbox within the next 2 weeks. Thanks. Hear God's loving invitation to return to Him during this year's Lent Midweek Services. We will use some of the many cases in God's Word where He calls us to return to Him. The 40-45 minute services will follow a format like the Advent midweeks used. Services begin at 6:30 p.m.

The individual themes planned at this time are:

March 17 - Return to the Lord, who does NOT change. Malachi 3:3-7 March 24 - Return to the Lord, who NEVER tires of calling you back.

Revelation 3:15-21 May God bless you through His word of truth shared at these services!

PHOTO DIRECTORIES – if you had your photo taken or submitted a photo, please pick up your copy in the church office if you haven’t done so. Matching Funds for Food Bank Construction ($2500 Donation):

We could use your help at the Humboldt Food Bank for a construction project. Prayerfully consider a donation – and we will match up to $2500!

The Humboldt County Ministerial Association and Associates voted at the last meeting to move forward with bids to consider purchasing the former ‘InDesigns’ consignment shop in downtown Humboldt as new locale for the Food Bank and UDMO. The two different entities exist now in the courthouse and the secondary roads building owned by the county.

The new project seeks to:

1- Provide a one-stop location for services from UDMO and the Humboldt Food Bank. This greatly eases many current logistical problems with the two locations.

2- Increase the number of hours that the food bank is open to serve Humboldt County.

3- Ease access (for those who need food and for those who donate) to the Food Bank and UDMO.

4- Continue to build on a legacy of serving the hungry in Humboldt County and to secure continued community participation in the future.

If you would like to donate, please put it in an envelope marked “Matching Funds for Food Bank” and place it in the offering. Thanks.

Building Healthy Families: Husbands, want to have a great relationship with your wife, even during times of conflict? Don’t try harder to convince her of your point. Don’t walk away. Love her. Research supports what Scripture has already told us: During an argument, 72% of wives feel unloved.

Wives, want to have a closer relationship with your husband, even during times of conflict? Check your tone, your attitude, and your words. Research supports what Scripture has already told us: During an argument, 83% of husbands feel disrespected.

“Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.” (Ephesians 5:33) Respect your husband always, even when you’re not happy with him. It’s not just a good idea, it’s a clear directive from the creator of marriage Himself. And it works!
