A client of ours once coined a description of Cantara that perfectly encapsulates our goal. He called our work the “fourth dimension” of his home.

Built on the campus of University of California, Davis, the 2014 Honda Smart Home U.S. represents the near future of sustainable residential technologies. Working closely with engineering teams from Honda Motors, the
CLTC-authors of California’s Title 24 building codes and the Davis Energy Group, Cantara helped dream up new methods for increasing efficiency while maintaining or improving comfort and livability. The result is a home that produces and conserves more energy than it consumes while recharging an electric vehicle nightly and the ability to sell back 2KwH of power each day. Cantara is the first company in the world to have connected a residential control system to a car’s charging system, enabling complete control of an EV’s charging behavior. Cantara continues to prove itself ahead of the game in sustainability and integration expertise.

The lyra is one of western civilization’s oldest musical instruments. It is the father of the modern Zither family, which includes the violin, guitar and harp. The word lyric is derived from the word lyra – and in their connection lies the meaning behind Cantara’s logo. Three thousand years ago, the lyra was the only technology that accompanied and enhanced theatrical performances, bringing a new dimension to the art of storytelling. Though technology has progressed and given us film, television and all kinds of avenues for storytelling, the spirit of getting lost in the experience remains the same.
At Cantara, we feel a kinship to the lyra craftsmen who built their technology to enhance the human experience. We put that same passion into building our own large-scale instruments that exist to enrich modern life.
