PowerSchool E-Registration Parent Guide

Parents,

In order to provide a more flexible and cost effective approach to student registration, Solon Community

Schools is requiring an online enrollment process.

Questions about this process should be directed

to Kris Wentzien in the Central Office: (319) 624-3401 x1349 or kwentzien@solon.k12.ia.us

If you already have a PowerSchool user name and password, please skip to “I am a current

PowerSchool user.”

You have never logged in to PowerSchool.

You will need to go to the PowerSchool login page:

https://ps-solon.gwaea.org/public/

or click onto the PowerSchool link on the schools website (www.solon.k12.ia.us). You will see the following screen:

1. Click the Create Account button

2. The screen below will appear

This is where you will setup access to ALL your students.

• Enter an E-Mail address – Note:

The e-mail address MUST be unique. If Parent/Guardians share the same e-mail address, you should only set up one parent access account.

• User Name (No apostrophe’s or @

symbols).

• Password (No apostrophe’s and it

Enter the Access ID and Access Password for each student.**Access ID’s and Access Passwords are located as a part of this mailing. If you were not provided this information, please contact Kris Wentzien in Central Office (319) 624-3401 x1349

o Select the relationship you are to the student.

NOTE: Should you enter something incorrectly, when you hit Enter, the Edit checks will catch the error; but unfortunately, also blank out many of the fields you have entered. You must re-enter the information in it’s entirety before the record is created.

3. Click Enter when you have completed this link to all of your students. 4. Assuming you are successful, you will receive this

message.

If Parent/Guardians share the same account, ONLY ONE Parent/Guardian may access the account at a time.

You are a current PowerSchool user.

Please login to the Parent PowerSchool log in page:

or click onto the PowerSchool link on the schools website (www.solon.k12.ia.us).

An icon called Grant Wood AEA Additional Features is located in the upper right hand portion of the

screen.

Double click this icon and you will be presented a submenu.

Double click the E-Registration icon.

Double click on the E-Registration icon and you will be shown the data that is currently on file at the

school for the selected student in the center column of the screen.

You only need to enter

changes/updates for your student.

You will be taken through 9 steps to collect updates for: • Student Demographics (screen 1)

o Student’s – address, phone numbers, etc. • Parent Contact Information (screens 2 and 3)

o Parent’s – address, phones, etc. • Emergency Contacts (screen 4)

o Name, relationship, contact phones • Medical Information (screen 5)

o Doctor names, phones, hospital preference • Health (screen 6)

o Medications and health concerns • Permissions, (screen 7)

o Parents grant or deny permission for their students school activities. • Fees and other forms (screen 8)

o Fees: School fees may be paid via …………

o Other Forms: Access to district specific forms. Examples include: Athletic physical, classroom volunteer, Booster club membership, etc.,

• Finish (screen 9)

You must go through all steps for each student.

Once you receive the message, “You have

completed the E-Registration process” (sample below), you may change students and begin

again.

All updates from parents go into a pending status. Building Secretaries review every change request

and provide final approval for update into the PowerSchool files.

What if you already have a PowerSchool account, but you are not able to access

one or more of your students?

Once you are logged in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal page, click on the Account Preferences

located in the upper right hand portion of the screen.

Next, you should see two tabs in the middle left portion of the screen. Click on

Students.

On the middle right portion of the screen, click on the Add icon.

Enter the Access ID and Access Password for each student. If you were not provided this information, please contact Kris Wentzien in Central Office (319) 624-3401 x1349

o Select the relationship you are to the student.

What if you forget your login information?

On the login page click on “Having Trouble Logging in?”

If you forgot your Password: • Fill in your User Name • Fill in your E-Mail Address • Hit Enter

The system will authenticate your information and send you a Security Token with instructions on how to re-set your

Password to the E-Mail address listed.

It is important to note that the Security Token sent is only good for 30 minutes. If the Parent/Guardian fails to re-set the Password in that allotted time, you will need to repeat the process.

If you forgot your User Name:

• Click on the Forgot User Name tab • Enter your E-Mail Address

• Hit Enter

The system will authenticate your information and send you an E-Mail listing your User Name.
