iCLA Admissions Policy

We seek individuals:

(1) who are motivated and hardworking;

(2) who possess academic potential and some kinds of proven success; (3) who are tolerant, curious, and have critically-thinking and flexible minds;

(4) who show threshold level English proficiency necessary for studying at iCLA, and evidence of language learning capability.

2. Application Eligibility

(1) Applicants do not possess Japanese nationality, permanent residence status or special permanent residence status. For the Spring semester entrance admission, you must hold a valid Visa to study in Japan when your application is submitted.

(2) Applicants who have graduated, or expected to graduate from four-year university, two-year college, or technical college by March 31 for the Spring entrance, August 31 2016 for the Fall entrance.

(3) Applicants who have enrolled for at least 1 year and have earned or expected to earn more than 27 credits until the end of March 2016 for Spring entrance, the end of August 2016 for the Fall entrance.

(4) Applicants who should demonstrate their English Proficiency with a TOEFL iBT score of 76, a TOEFLPBT score of 540, or an IELTS score of 5.5 in order to take iCLA courses in English.

*Credit Transfer

Regardless of the school attended, up to 27 credits with a grade corresponding to a “C-” or above by iCLA standards (at least 70% of maximum credit in course assignments and exams) are transferrable.

Screening Method

Applications are evaluated based on the overall screening of the application documents, essay (statement of purpose), and interview.

Interviewing

(1) Interview Method

The interview will be conducted by telephone or other online communication methods. (2) Interview Form

The interview will be conducted in English, and will take between 15 to 20 minutes. (3) Interview Date

Interview period will be conducted during Mon. February 1, 2016 to Fri. February 5, 2016.

The specific date and time will be coordinated after the application was completed by sending an e-mail to the address, which the applicant specified on the online application form.

NOTE: On the arranged interview day, if the phone call cannot be answered due to a telephone malfunction or absence, we will assume the applicant does not have the will to apply. Please contact the Admissions Office immediately if you found yourself unable to talk on the phone on the arranged interview date due to the circumstances beyond the applicant’s control. Also, if there is any change in your telephone number due to moving etc., please be sure to contact the Admissions Office in advance.

Please submit an academic transcript from a university, junior college or technical college in a sealed envelope. Applicants who are currently taking courses at their university, junior college or technical college must submit a certificate of course registration in which the expected number of credits is made clear. 4 Graduation Certificate or Diploma

Please submit a proof of graduation or expected graduate certificate from a university, junior college or technical college. Applicants who are not able to submit a graduation certificate or Diploma, please submit a certificate of enrollment or a certificate of enrollment period.

5 Statement of Purpose Please write an essay of approximately 300 words in English. 6 English Proficiency Test

Score

Submit an original score report of either TOEFL iBT, PBT or IELTS. TOEFL-ITP is not acceptable. The official test score must be sent directly to Admissions Office from each testing institutions. a. TOEFL:

Minimum requirement: TOEFL iBT 76 or above TOEFL PBT 540 or above *YGU’s institution code is 7601.

b. IELTS (Academic Module):

Minimum requirement: 5.5 or above. 7 Screening Fee

Please remit the screening fee of JPY 10,000 to the bank account below in Japanese Yen and attach the bank receipt or statement to the application form.

8 Copy of your passport Please submit a copy of the photo page of your passport. In case, you do not have a passport, you may be able to submit any photo ID issued by the government in your country.

In case you hold a valid Japanese VISA, please submit a copy of your VISA and residency card.

7. Notes on Application

(1) After the documents screening, we will notify the applicants whose applications are disqualified. (2) Application documents and screening fees are not returned or refunded for any reason whatsoever.

8. Announcement of the Final Results

We will announce the result individually by sending an e-mail to the applicant’s e-mail address which was specified on the application form. For the successful applicants, the notification of acceptance and enrollment documents will be sent.

9. Enrollment Procedure

Please pay the matriculation fee, tuition and other fees and submit the enrollment documents. The enrollment documents must be received at the Admissions Office by the specified enrollment deadline.

11. Room and Board Fee
