Ranking of Website of University Units for the First Quarter as of
January to March, 2016
1. Background
1.1. In reference to the 139th meeting of the SUA Council held on 1st October 2015, it was approved that “University-wide Website Committee (UWC) shall approve the ranking of websites of university units” (ICT Guidelines No 186-188). It was approved that website ranking should be done at least once per quarter and the leading units will be rewarded while the units that will be losing for two consecutive years will be penalized.
1.2. The UWC in its 6th meeting held on 23rd November 2015, approved the scoring system, the Google webmaster Tools and other ICT measures to be used for ranking the units websites. The UWC argued that the first ranking results should be published around March, 2016.
2. The scoring System
The 6th meeting of UWC approved the scoring system (Table 1) in which five criteria were approved to provide the points.
2.1. Visibility/metadata is information about data stored in a database. Normally, metadata information is used by search engine (such as Google) to index web information.
2.2. The number of clicks depicts the importance of the website that users visit. This means your site is visible to the users and contains the information that the users want. For example, a student will click on a link about course information before he registers for the course
2.3. Incoming links/external links: these are the number of the links in which other websites refer to SUA website. They are called referring domains. SUA website will always be mentioned in the collaborating institutions websites. This is the place where SUA website gets high ranking.

3. Methodology
Data was collected from various 42 units of the University based on the criteria mentioned in Table 1 above using the approved tool. Data used to calculate the ranking results mentioned is shown in Table 2, Table 3, Table 4 and Table 5. A threshold value was generated for each criterion, which lead to obtain the points for each criterion. So, the points for each criterion were obtained by the formula, (specific data for each criterion collected over threshold value of the specific criterion times points generated for each criterion).
4. Ranking results
The approved ranking tools together with the scoring system have led to the ranking results categorized into three types of ranking results. The first category is for overall ranking results for all units in the University. In the overall results (Table 2) shows that DRPGS was ranked first, followed by DSI which is the second, the third is College of Agriculture, the fourth is Faculty of Forestry and Nature Conservation and the fifth is SNAL. The position of the other units is shown in Table 2. It should be noted also that, for administrative departments SUA Health centre was ranked first (Table 5) and SUA TV is ranked a second.
