What makes a

traditional

Castile Soap?

And why should you care if it’s

not

traditional.

Many of you are probably already familiar with what castile soap is. But just in case you aren’t, or could use a refresher, here’s a brief rundown.

Castile soap is a soap made from vegetable oil, rather than from animal fat or synthetic detergents. It originates from the Castile region of Spain (hence the name,) where it was made from pure, local olive oil. Although olive

oil is the traditional base oil, the soap can be made with coconut, hemp, jojoba, argan, castor, and many other vegetable oils.

Unfortunately, as prices rise and profits have somehow become more important than people, many Castile Soap manufacturers have began turning to palm oil as a cheaper alternative to traditional oils. But as

we all know it comes with a much bigger cost - damage to local wildlife, indigenous tribes, habitats, and our climate.

Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap

(UNSCENTED)

Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap is the Eco-Friendly Liquid Castile that

cares about you and your home. In fact, all homes on the planet. We don’t support Palm Oil, and it’s eco-damage in any of our products.

Instead, we combined the old-world tradition of olive oil, with the kindness from organic healing oils and gently processed it into the soap you can trust in.

Here’s why you can trust in Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap:

• We don’t support Palm Oil, and it’s eco-damage in any of our products. • All our oils are organic.

• All our ingredients are vegan friendly and 100% biodegradable. • Everything is unscented to support even the most sensitive skin.

• We use only Non-GMO ingredients, so you can be assured you’re only absorbing the goodness.

Organic Castor Oil - used in cosmetics and skincare, Vitamin E rich Castor Oil is the anti-inflammatory superstar of the

skin world. And that’s good news for eczema, psoriasis and dryness, without bringing bad news to oily, blemished and acne prone skin.

Concentrated, but gentle

Our castile soap is 2-3x more concentrated than regular liquid soaps,

body washes and cleansers. So please remember to dilute it with water! Organic Coconut, and Olive Oils - people have been making

pure soap for millennia. Some of the earliest were made with laurel oil; or like true Castile, olive oil! So of course, you’ll

find it in our soap. We also added antifungal Coconut Oil to dissolve germs as well as grime.

Organic Argan, Jojoba and Hemp Oils - our special formula contains three oils that are very similar to your skin’s natural oils. This gives you smooth hydrated skin, without clogging

pores or leaving behind a greasy residue.

13. Mild Baby Wash

14. Gentle Foaming Baby Wash

RECIPE

RECIPE

You will need:

You will need: Directions:

Directions:

• Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap Unscented • Purified water

• ¾ cup Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap Unscented • 10 drops grapefruit essential oil (optional)

• 10 drops sweet orange essential oil (optional) • 1 cup bergamot, or neroli hydrosol

• 1 Tbsp glycerin

• 14 oz foaming soap dispenser

Mix 1 part castile soap with 4 parts purified water. Make sure to keep the soap mixture away from baby’s eyes!

In the soap dispenser combine the glycerin, castile soap, and essential oils (if using). Swirl the contents around until thoroughly mixed. Add the hydrosol until the mixture is 1-2

inches from the top. Cap and shake gently to combine.

BABY BATH TIME

Most conventional liquid soap products contain heavy fragrances, nasty parabens, dyes and

GMO ingredients that don’t belong on your baby’s sensitive skin. These ingredients can cause endocrine disruption and even be carcinogenic. Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap is unscented to support even the most sensitive skin. It is also GMO free and vegan.

NB! A Note on Essential Oil Safety with Babies

Certain essential oils are safe to use on babies that are 3 months or older. While adults typically use a 1-5% dilution for skin care, a general .25% dilution is recommended for this young age. If the following baby wash recipes are going to be used on an infant younger than 3 months, omit the essential oils! You can use the hydrosols instead. Hydrosols are basically just aromatic water made from flowers and herbs and don’t have the same potent effects as essential oils.

17. Natural Baby Wipes

RECIPE

You will need:

Directions:

• ¼ - ½ cups distilled water (or boiled and cooled)

• 1 Tbsp Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap Unscented • 1 Tbsp Seven Minerals Aloe Vera Gel

• 1 Tbsp witch hazel

• 1/2 Tbsp oil (olive, sweet almond, or coconut)

• 10-15 drops essential oils (tea tree and lavender are good) • 1 roll strong paper towels

• 1 storage container (old wipes container, tupperware, plastic ice cream bucket, etc.)

Cut the roll of paper towels in half with a sharp, non-serrated knife. Place one half of the roll in a tall container (or accordion fold the towels and place in an old wipes container). In a small bowl, add the water, castile soap, aloe vera, witch hazel, and almond oil, and stir to mix well.

Add the essential oils and stir to combine. Slowly pour mixture over the towels to

saturate them. If you’re using a wipes container, just pull the towels through the little slot in the cover and you’re done!

If using a tall container, flip it over after 5-10 minutes to make sure the towels are

completely wet with the solution. Then flip it back over, pull out the cardboard roll from the middle and the first towel should come right out.

Use as you would regular baby wipes.

Note:

This recipe is for one half of the paper towel roll. Depending on the brand and size of your towels, you may need to adjust the amounts of water and soap in the recipe. If

using reusable cloth wipes, just pour the solution into a shallow pan and place the cloth wipes in the solution until they’re saturated. Then just place the wipes into an old wipes container and use as you would regular wipes.

• 10 drops tea tree essential oil • 10 drops lavender essential oil

Mix all the ingredients, except the water, together directly into the bottle. Add the water last, just enough to fill the bottle to the top. Swirl gently to mix, don’t shake or it will

foam. With each use gently swirl and/or invert to combine ingredients. Spray directly onto babies skin or on the wipe itself.

SHAMPOO

If you’ve ever been frustrated with the over-scented shampoos that you buy in the stores, you can switch to washing your hair with Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap. It’s perfect for people who just want to wash their hair and not have it reek of unnatural scents afterwards. Seven

Minerals Castile Soap doesn’t contain any detergents that will strip your hair or scalp of its beneficial oils. It also won’t dry out your scalp. Your hair will be clean and soft.

Note:

People who like to use a rinse or conditioner after using shampoo, can simply use apple cider vinegar. This neutralizes any lingering soapiness, and the acidity of the vinegar helps to reseal the outer layer of the hair. For a homemade hair rinse, mix 1 part lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to 8 parts purified water.

up) and cut it up into “rag-size” cloths. Take a large jar and pour in the water, castile

soap and peppermint essential oil. Put the lid on and give it a good shake to combine. Remove the lid from the jar, and place

your t-shirt rags into the jar with the liquid. Replace the lid and turn the container

upside-down a few times to help the liquid soak into the rags. Use your kitchen wipes to clean up spills, or even just to freshen up your countertops. Set the used cloths aside until you have used them all. Wash the rags with your laundry, mix up another batch of the cleaning solution, and reuse.

43. Liquid Laundry Detergent

RECIPE

You will need:

Directions:

• 1 cup borax

• 1 cup washing soda

• 1 cup Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap • 10-15 drops essential oil (optional)

• 17 cups water

In a large saucepan, bring 6 cups of water to a slight boil. Once the water begins to boil, turn off the burner and add the Borax and Washing Soda. Stir to dissolve.

In a large bucket (a 2 gallon bucket is good), combine the remaining 11 cups of room-temperature water and castile soap, add essential oil (if using). Pour the hot Borax

mixture from the saucepan into the bucket. Stir the mixture together. Pour your mixture into desired storage container (a glass jar is good). As the soap sits, the mixture may form into a gel.

Note:

There may be liquid and gel separation, simply stir or shake. This is normal. Use 1/8-1/4 a cup of soap per load of laundry. For stains, use a small amount of soap directly on the stain. The gel will dissolve in the water of the washing machine.

44. Borax-Free Laundry Detergent

RECIPE

You will need:

Directions:

• 4 cups very hot water • 1 cup baking soda

• 1/3 cup salt

• 1 cup Seven Minerals Pure Castile Soap • Gallon-sized jug

• Water

• Printable label PDF

• Label sheet, printer and scissors

In a large spouted measuring cup, stir together the hot water and baking soda until the soda is dissolved. Then add the salt and stir until it is dissolved. Add in castile soap and stir gently to combine. If your faucet doesn’t get hot enough to dissolve the soda and salt, you might want to try heating the mixture over the stove until dissolved. Pour the mixture into the one-gallon jug.

And then, slowly fill the gallon jug to the top with water. The soap will foam, but just

keep filling until you have mostly liquid. Print out the label, cut it out and place it on the container. To use, shake the container to mix ingredients, then pour 1/3-1/2 cup of the solution into the washer while it fills.

Note:

NB! This recipe has NOT been tested with a high-efficiency washer; however, because it

is low on soap, it does not create a lot of suds, so it just might work!
